What is the difference between a scam, and an idea that won't work?

I see you have several people listed as a scammer that I have been paid from.

I have been trying (at low amounts) those multiply your btc by x %, and have been paid every time.

When it gets to far in the game people stop investing, and thus no payments get made, rarely does the ponzi owner make much of this game(the .0001 per transaction I think?)

I wouldn't consider that a scam at all, he paid several people but the people who invested too late didn't get paid and are upset(understandable)

I would consider a scammer to be someone who after 5 deposits didn't pay anyone, and is unseen again.

Any thoughts?
They are scammers because they didn't pay everyone. They indirectly PROMISE payout to EVERYONE, and most Ponzis end before the last investment as well, with the owner running away.

Just because a casino site would work for the first 1000 players, then they'd disappear with all deposits, would they not be a scam?

Most of the places I saw say "We do not promise you will get paid" "This only works when investors come in after you" etc in their FAQs..

It is better when they say that it is a game and that not everyone will get paid than when they say that it is a safe guaranteed investment that will always pay since it is less deceiving
I think a sc.am is when you cheat people but you could consider it scamm.y if you deceive people too much

English please? You don't seem to have a very good grasp of the English language. I've already said I'm disqualified from most MinerDirect contests - so that point's invalid - and in my opinion I don't look like a shit. We're calling out the HYIP scams so newbies don't get scammed. The truth is, HYIPs always collapse. Always. There is not 1 HYIP in BTC history which has ran for a prolonged period and has not collapsed.

BA Computer Science, University of Oxford
Dissertation was about threat modelling on distributed ledgers.

list trimmed to just ponzi operators.
As passionate as I am about this topic, Im here to warn people away from ponzi operators, not to abuse people for their stupid "investments".

The main issue with ponzi operators is they churn accounts with each new scam.

What is the difference between a scam, and an idea that won't work?

None what so ever when you are selling an idea you know to be flawed as working.

What if they state in their FAQs that it is a risk investment and there is a chance that you will lose your money?

my personal belief is that ED did not start with the premise of stealing BTC, but their mismanagement of funds, as well as not preparing themselves for worst-case scenarios (whale winning all their profits), lead them to this situation.  The funds are their investors', who hold full control over them.  Investors are unlikely to want to pay out the full winnings to this improbable (but not impossible) situation.

It wouldn't have gone down like this if they had been better prepared.  the end result is still the same nonetheless, some people will feel scammed.

by mismanagement of funds, i mean not setting the right policies regarding betting limits and risk mitigation on lucky winners.  not actual misappropriation or anything illegal..  what they did was stupid, not illegal. (not yet at least)

Those ponzies keep flowing because there are people who keeps depositing money into those sites, if they have so much money, they should trade some alt coins instead of that..

by that logic every person is a potential murderer and rapist.

Now lets employee some good common sense and realize:

New casinos have to earn their trust, people blindly investing in an unknown...... are not much brighter than those investing ponzi imho.

From what I heard, the total scammed amount should be much much more.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=624138.0
The user 1DiCe1 has won ~135 (which make the site profit -123), the "Total invested" (investment balance) was at 130, and we don't know how much the total "gambling balance" was.

That is what I was saying

When someone set up an anonymous working dice site and say send me money in hope of a return and that i am not a sc.ammer it is very risky

Haha this thing is still going?

It was a great effort.

It seems to be kept going though by potential ponzi's claiming not to be ponzi's!

Well at least that might help with the "shill" angle.

Good Luck.

And it is worse when it is deceiving because it is even less honest than a regular ponzi
