I have friends like this, people that will gamble on Mexican Womens Tennis if they can win (or most likely lose) some money on the game. It's a crushing addicition that we've normalized in our culture to make it seem like it's just apart of life. It shouldn't be, and children at a young age should be stopped from gambling until they know the horrible outcomes that gambling can cause. I support every effort by regulators to stem out the bad actors in the gambling field in order to stop children from being hooked on this.

I'd like one of you to change my mind, or at least make me think different about gambling. Because as of right now, I have a pretty negative view on it.

As I said originally, I'm not talking about the holiday betters or the people that do it just because the people in the office are doing it just to fit in. I'm talking about the people who are nonstop about the fact that they have a 'sure thing' or that this is the game that's going to turn them around. Stuff like that.

There's no real way for this sort of gambler to be able to keep it without the emotions, as they thrive off of the winnings and the losses and never are able to quench the thirst of gambling. It's a never ending battle that you're never going to be able to fully leave unless you go COLD TURKEY.

This normalization of certain types of betting: Be it DraftKings or one of those weekly sports betting, or just some random bets you'd make at school with some friends are going to be the downfall of this newest generation.

I agree with your opinion about a young age should be stopped from gambling, but the problem is they can easily access every website with internet connection which available everywhere. They can access gambling website in the cafe or the malls.

I think the governments which are prohibit gambling in their country as trying hard to block every gambling site so people especially young age cannot access that site but you know, the internet connection is not hard to find in today. Perhaps, it is our jobs to take care of the young age around us or even our kids to stay away from gambling. I am sure if we can explain to them about how dangerous gambling games for their life, they will understand and they will obey us.

Besides that, we need to make a friendly approaching to young age, so they know that playing gambling is not good in their ages and even it will risk their life too in the future. It is upto individual how they want to take it. Like for those who want to just make money will play only to win and most likely will end up losing a lot of money if do not stop at right time. While for others who just play to entertain them self will continue to gamble and enjoy irrespective of the results.

"in every law, the is an exemption" i always think of this to have a broad understanding on everything. I am not saying that you are right but there are an isolated cases of people who are really an addict gambler but not all peoplr are like that. in ever ten right things, there is always one who goes wrong. There are more gamblers that are in control so i dont think gambling is pure evil.

In my opinion, gambling is not that different from playing games like PUBG, DOTA2, etc., it triggers "joy hormone" and give you a sense of accomplishment. Since young people often cannot control that urge to play (driven from hormone), they would easily be addicted, and in the end, their brain got permanently damaged.

I would not contradict with your view because addicted gamblers can cause a big problem to themselves as well as to the society! But, this statement holds true for addicted gamblers only who usually bets on every single events possible and can't control their mind even after facing a huge loss. But I won't call every gambler a degenerate because they are not! They way you know a friend who is addicted to gambling, similar way I know a lot of people who gambles for pleasure and they know when to stop! Yes, your statement sounds pretty hostile, why did you say it like that? Also, I think you make a good point but also an inaccurate one. Some gamblers are addicted so they bet on everything. Others are addicted but only to one form of gambling or one type of game and then spend their life savings to chase losses or win big. Some just like buying 1 set of numbers for every lottery draw. Are all these degenerates of equal nature?

Every human habit and action has a good and bad side. Gambling is probably correctly called a vice but if it keeps people out of trouble without making them lose life savings, how bad can it be?

being addicted does not mean that you will permanently atatched to something  . you will not be brain dead forever because addicted people do also recover if they want and if they are really willing to change thier life for a better  .  but you got a point  that gambling is somehow simillar to playing games because both acts can trigger joy hormone or dopamine in the brain .

Honestly I don't understand what is your real problem with gambling and people that are betting. If you don't like gambling and people that do it then just forget and don't think about it. That's it. We all know gambling is one of the stupidest addiction so why would you want to change your perception on that? Just to become one of them? The only people that are going to try and change your mentality is those who are doing the things that you hate so this is will only lead to bad things since it's possible that you will start gambling in the future. I don't agree with this statement. I gamble almost daily although with little budget but I don't consider myself a degenerate, I have a regular life, day job and a beautiful family. I play through my phone for example yesterday which was Champions League and will also play a bit today. I don't think this behavior makes me or any gambler with this behavior a degenerate.

There are extreme cases when addicted persons becomes degenerate because of their addiction but these are isolated cases and don't make a broad statement in gambling.

People with money gamble for fun, those that don't have the money gamble hoping to win some and they fail.

The problem I notice in my area is that many bookies have their businesses close to schools. Kids walk by these establishments and get drawn in by the graphics and big logos. And this is not how it is supposed to be. Addiction starts at early age.

A few lads on the street I live in have a betting shop as their meeting place! On Friday or Saturday night they don't go out to hang out with friends but instead they hang out at the bet shops and play bingo or dog races. Unfortunately, some people don't have the capacity to distinguish between gambling for fun and stop when the fun ends.

They're people like you and me, who simply got addicted to gambling. Shaming them doesn't help anyone, your choice of words makes them seems as though they're less than human.
A little bit of compassion goes a long way and as long as society views people with an addiction as weak or degenerate, the more difficult it becomes for these people to seek the help that they so desperately need.

There's nothing wrong with trying to win some money, especially if the very process is enjoyable. Isn't that the same thing as treasure hunting when people invest their money in some equipment in hopes of finding something valuable? They mostly fail, by the way, and yet treasure hunting is not that frowned upon as gambling. And do you know why? That is because treasure hunting is not that popular as gambling, that's it. I bet there is the same percentage(around 3%) of treasure hunters who ruined their own lives, and perhaps, the lives of those close to them through their activities, as that for gamblers. And there are other similar pursuits too, and stock trading is one of them imo.

So, don't be so harsh on gambling. It's just one of those hobbies that can be very dangerous when abused.
