This is simply a planned work from someone that is close to him. It’s always advisable to keep your assets or worth as secret from anyone because of this kind of issues. Same thing happened in some part of my country where robbers were attacking people and telling them to login into their wallet and send the funds out to their own wallet. All these could only be as a result of a close person leaking some informations to the robbers either knowingly or unknowingly.

I think there are a number of possibilities 1, there is a planned violence / robbery done by the closest person
2, because we may often tell someone about our work, so that someone is jealous of us and wants to get all our assets
3. there is a chance
so we have to be careful both talking and acting. Remember ... crime is sometimes not because it was planned but because there is a chance

A crypto trader from the Netherlands had been brutally tortured in front of his 4-year-old daughter, by 3 suspects disguised as police.  The investigator suspected that the criminals stole some private keys, passwords that transferred the victim's fund to the suspect's wallet. How could the criminal know his a trader and identity, location? Could this be an inside job?

The suspect work on information because how did he know the man is a bitcoin trader or is the man doing his bitcoin trading in the open because for all I know since bitcoin is a high tech it trading is mostly carried out using computer device and very difficult to no is any one is involve in it without being told.

maybe he saw the guy doing trades or doing crypto related transactions  . and maybe he already aware about cryptocurrency since we know that most criminals are smart people , they are also updated on what is new and what is old   . this news serves a lesson to us  , that we must not do any money related work when we were outside because criminals are always lurking around   .  its also better to not store all your funds in your wallet because you can  also get hacked online  .

yes, it can be a lesson for us not to show whatever we have to others because it can provoke crime for ourselves,I think the 3 people thought he was a big trader who had a lot of cryptocurreny so we have to be careful about what we have because we don't know who is jealous of us.

This couldn't be an inside job maybe the criminals might just know that he is a crypto earner because of his social media account.
This is why we should be careful on bragging about crypto this could happen to anyone so be careful.
And besides if this is an inside job the criminal would target whales and this wouldn't be the last if this is an inside job.

This is the exact reason why I really dislike buying those bitcoin stickers and shirts. The last thing I want is to be tortured for me to give the criminals my private keys. Wearing bitcoin or cryptocurrency-related paraphernalia is pretty much like a huge "rob me" sign and is a huge unnecessary risk a person is taking.

What should we do then? Never go to any bitcoin meetings and conferences? Avoid trading on localbitcoins or any other OTC markets because they can see us and follow us home? If a restaurant nearby opens bitcoin payments we should never do it because somebody will see us scanning a qr code and follow us home to torture the shit out of us.

LOL

woops. my bad for the late counter argument

Not necessarily. You go to bitcoin meetings and conferences for you to increase your network and to actually gain knowledge; and you trade on localbitcoins to simply buy/sell bitcoin. You're taking these risks in exchange for something that's supposedly going to benefit you. Wearing bitcoin shirts and putting up stickers on the other hand though? Does it really benefit you in anything besides bragging rights? It's up to you to decide if it's actually worth it. But for me, it's definitely not.

Also, you can go to conferences and simply leave after with only the people in the conference itself knowing you, along with probably a few people outside the venue. With bitcoin transactions in person, you can simply transact in a safe and secure place like a mall, and in the end, the only person who learns that you hold bitcoin would be the person you're transacting with. But with stickers and shirts? You're basically broadcasting it to every single person you pass by. Let that sink in.

The world currently is very unsafe and its really not adviceable telling people how much Bitcoin you own. It is best you keep such information to yourself as you don't know who might want to attack you over your private key. Also wearing stuffs that shows you into cryptocurrency can also expose you, though such things help promote bitcoin and cryptocurrency during conferences and seminars but then we need to be careful. God help us all.

Its really a pity this guy had to go through such and am sure someone who knows him did this. We should not at anytime disclose our crypto asset to anyone at any point in time. There are desperate people everywhere who don't want to work but looking for who to rob. Keep your Bitcoin worth to yourself and be careful who you tell you deal on Bitcoin.

There's a rule that usually close friends or family are connected with the crime. I don't know the statistics but it can be 70 % of cases or even more that are done with help of a close relative, friend, neighbor, coworker, lover. .

It's also possible they traded with him in person or saw him bragging about it at a bar. The less people know how wealthy you are the better.

That's why being anonymous is crucial to most traders and whales because if not, then you will risk your life to any criminals lurking around. By looking at the incidents there are lots of angles to view and accounted for the local police. People should choose carefully their trusted friends and relatives because you will never know it might be one of them.

My advice for Americans and those where it's legal to do so is to arm yourself and always have your gun handy in case violent intruders enter your property. In Europe, perhaps there are other safeguards. What happened in the Netherlands is a great example of why gun ownership should be allowed among the general public.

For inside jobs it won't be much useful, you would keep assuming 'I'am safe' as you are with familiar person and then you just got betrayed.

May be it's just better idea not to not boast about your crypto holdings, or you are in crypto et all.

Number 2, in most cases there is an inside guy. Close friend, family member, someone who heard how you talk about something valuable that you have. Number 3, if you don`t close the door some random passing guy will try to use the opportunity.

My advice for Americans and those where it's legal to do so is to arm yourself and always have your gun handy in case violent intruders enter your property. In Europe, perhaps there are other safeguards. What happened in the Netherlands is a great example of why gun ownership should be allowed among the general public.

In US it`s legal to have firearms and you can shoot someone in your house and to not go to jail for that, it`s not the same in the rest of the world. Personally I don`t like guns, but when we talk about this situations when criminals raid your home, when they threat you and your family, what should someone do?
When we talk about this I always think about a movie Law Abiding Citizen, when criminals kill his wife and daughter, for couple dollars.

When people stop telling everyone about how much money they have?
Stop doing it.
Same about crypto. It is easy to steal if the scammer has a private key address actually. People are greedy. And they are ready to do a lot for a couple of BTC. Take care, please. And do not tell strangers about your funds. Money loves silence.

Yes this news is very true I read the full news some weeks back ,my advice is for everyone crypto fans to be very careful not to disclose what there coins and tokens worth because words travel faster than anything in this world ,if you want to stay safe don't let strangers especially knows your worth or you can easily be a target

Right. I don't get it either. Probably share it with a few well trusted friends and family members who you're 100 sure won't betray you for money. It' sad that this has to happen to someone within the crypto community but we all have to practice caution everytime.

This is a very difficult case for the authorities since we know that bitcoin is not that eatablish and known. The authorities will going to look for it and learn about the system for it could also lead for the suspects arrests or identity. Whatever the authority will hope for the success in cracking the case and as for kid hope she goes to counseling.

Yeah but that could happen to anyone with anything, including fiat money.

The thing is that in this case it's a lot easier to do so, you only open an online wallet quick taking some measurements and that's it. A lot easier than a bank account in a place without extradition and/or using certain financial proxies but the people who do that kind of stuffs do it for a lot of money, those kind of things are not cheap.

It's really hard to know who to trust in this life, really hard.

Of course this is a lesson for us that not everyone likes what we have, even some are jealous, so they make the decision to rob or force us to release our bitcoin.
The Bitcoin that we have is anonymous, so the factor is we show or boast as bitcoin owners so that bad people target the bitcoin we have. So it's better to keep quiet because it makes us safe.
