A crypto trader from the Netherlands had been brutally tortured in front of his 4-year-old daughter, by 3 suspects disguised as police.  The investigator suspected that the criminals stole some private keys, passwords that transferred the victim's fund to the suspect's wallet. How could the criminal know his a trader and identity, location? Could this be an inside job?

This is the exact reason why I really dislike buying those bitcoin stickers and shirts. The last thing I want is to be tortured for me to give the criminals my private keys. Wearing bitcoin or cryptocurrency-related paraphernalia is pretty much like a huge "rob me" sign and is a huge unnecessary risk a person is taking.

This was surely an inside job. That's why is always better to keep you mouth shut even when you are talking to your best friend. It's clear that the criminals new exactly what they are looking for, especially when we are talking about private keys and they knew their value. That's why the robbed him for.

The robbers probably got the user's identity from some company or someone who has information. This is the reason why I hate my identity being discovered by anyone. It's too scary to think that just because I know cryptocurrency, I could get into a situation like this. This is why I avoid KYC or any other things that could potentially risk my identity. It's kind of scary.

This might be the worst scenario of being a crypto related person, whether you're a trader, seller or anything related in crypto, to them nothing is excuse, so better to keep silent and don't talk much on what's your gain in crypto for security  purposes.

This one seems like an insider job. That's the reason why I stopped using any kind of social media starting January 2019. I deleted my personal facebook and Insta profile because I don't want to let people know how I am living my life and what I am doing on weekends or in any vacation. Making your private life visible to others is a significant risk nowadays as you can easily get spotted by someone with vicious intention. Because when others see that you have bought a car or a house, they immediately starts judging your income and jealousy follows just after that! I hope police cracks this case real soon and put the criminals behind bars!

My advice for Americans and those where it's legal to do so is to arm yourself and always have your gun handy in case violent intruders enter your property. In Europe, perhaps there are other safeguards. What happened in the Netherlands is a great example of why gun ownership should be allowed among the general public.

Someone who really close to the victim are involved on this one, and its really sad to hear a news like this where there is a children in front of them, it looks like they don’t care at all just to get the money. I’m scared because of this, maybe I have to hide my real identity for good even to my friends who I can’t really trust.

No matter how secure is your wallet. If someone knows that you own some big amount of money then you won't be so resilient to physical violence. If some of you will get big amount of BTC then don't be greedy / stupid and use a good bitcoin mixer.

Even a gun won't be that useful when someone performs a planned attack when you are not expecting it.

It could be that:

[1] the victim was proudly declaring to the world that he has tons of crypto
[2] he tells his friends about his crypto and then concocted a plot to steal them
[3] somewhat overheard him telling his friends about his crypto

Anyways, in the last few years we have heard similar stories like this. There was even a Norwegian man murdered after he liquidated his assets (https://ethereumworldnews.com/a-24-year-norwegian-man-killed-after-selling-his-bitcoins/). So my advise is just to keep quite about your crypto earnings. You will never know those criminals are just around and looking to target unsuspecting crypto enthusiast.

Why isn't that is happening to people like Roger Ver and Vitalik? They aren't running around with a security team.  This guy was probably involved in some shadyt dealings and got what was coming to him.

Why such hype by a normal robbery?

Don't we hear this kind of robbery with fiat money too. People are murdering others for money. Bank robbery, hackers are hacking money from central banks.

If we compare this robbery with all those high profile crimes then do you think this is even a news? The yellow media whenever find something to blame Bitcoin, they just print it.

Sorry, but no-one deserves to be treated that way, besides you're just making wild assumptions here.
I mean there are a number of possible scenarios here and the victim being a shady figure isn't a given.

Heck, your comment sounds like you're saying that everyone dealing with cryptocurrency is doing shady stuff.

I bet it is one of his colleagues or friends who sold him out. Or maybe if the banks are dirty out there then it could be a possibilty also. If that case happened to me then it is the bank that only knows my current amounts of transactions. Poor guy it has to go beyond that. In front of his family, I feel zad for the little girl as it will bring trauma for some years. So becareful out there guys.

Bitcoin, which is currently worth around $3,800 (£2,800), is semi-anonymous and therefore difficult to trace to a single individual.

Since its peak in late 2017, bitcoin has lost close to three quarters of its value, yet still remains an attractive prospect for criminals.

They want you to get scared of holding crypto. Why it's specifically for crypto. Any valuable asset (Gold, cash, diamond) are attractive prospect for criminals. Why only Bitcoin?

The yello media will get inside you and then they will spread the fear so that in the long run your mind shift. That's how they play.

You are completely right, much worse things are being done over cash and drugs.  The vidoes I've seen coming out of South America are gruesome.

This bitcoin theft is a drop in the bucket compared to what evil really goes on in the world.

This can be so tragic and the big lesson here is never be telling anyone much more advertised publicly or even subtly that you are involved with cryptocurrency especially if one is a trader as there can be criminals who are fast in assuming that a trader is always having much money. A criminal can force entry into your house anytime and demand to transfer your coins or tokens to another wallet in exchange for safety and because transactions are irreversible then there is nothing we can do. We have to be careful as we are now in the era where personal safety can anytime be jeopardized irrespective if we are rich or just having enough money to survive.

Agreed with you comrade; that's why i hate KYC, better for me to stop whatsoever campaign that request for my personal data than foolishly submitting the data. Solely believe that they might have gotten the right information about the victim before they act as such. Let's be careful about our watery mouth before our enemies(friends).

It is not so easy to find the identity and locality of a person through a bitcoin address. I wonder how the criminals would have got the exact location of the crypto trader. I guess that the crypto trader would have done KYC in some airdrop/ICO/website through which the criminals would have got to know the locality of the person. Another possibility is that the KYC of the person would have been shared on the dark web from where the criminals would have got his locality. We all know that there have been so many ICO scams and airdrops of shitcoins which asked for KYC details from the investors. The possibility of the crypto trader investing in such schemes would have lead to this incident. This is the reason why many people opt out when it comes to submitting KYC for crypto purpose. Also, it is better if we don't publicly announce that we hold cryptocurrencies since this would be like an open invitation for hackers and criminals.

Oh My God! Shame on those criminals! They did the torture in front of an innocent. I hope that karma will get back to them 1o fold! This news can be n eye opener to use not to divulge or boast that we have cryptocurrency because it can attract those heartless criminals. I'm praying that the daughter will soon recover from this.

That is why I keep my animosity in tack and will not let anybody know my true identity and I really think this is for the safety of most people in the community to keep his identity sacred, to anyone and let your friends or anybody know that you are trading, earning, And even gambling for bitcoin and other cryptocurrency, It will be limited only to your family and the most trusted loved ones, This kind of news is simply very alarming and when the price of bitcoin would increase again then there can be another threat to people even your loved ones that you are into Cryptocurrency.

I don't want to be in this situation, this is scary not just for me but for my family. They could have been traumatized by this incident. And this is not the first time though, so everyone just be careful and hope that this won't happen to us. I do hope that they will caught these guys and put behind bars for good.

I think he told a lot of people that he is Trader and this has caused him big trouble. Or he has revealed his information online, and this has helped criminals get detailed information about him before they plan to attack him.

Probably an inside job. Or the person may have been bragging about his portfolio. Its a sad news especially since the crime was made in front of his children. I guess there's still a lesson to be picked up from this, that we should be extra careful about who we trust with important information. Hope the family gets justice.

Can I ask what all the people commenting here about it being an "inside job" mean when they say that? The guy tortured himself? Also, the story says they didn't actually get anything from him so it was a pretty crappy attempt at a robbery, whether inside job or not.

This guy was probably involved in some shadyt dealings and got what was coming to him.

Quite an out-of-nowhere assumption there. Not every victims has to be someone shady. We're talking about private keys here; he was most likely tortured to hand over the funds on his exchange account or his private keys.

This is a sadistic story, maybe it's really an insider and can be from a close friend, so they can find out the identity and number of ownership of bitcoin from the victim.

It's really madness, remember that without money no life will survive on this planet earth, so, men are ready to kill or die just to have the money, money they said "is the roots of all evil" and the power of survivals. to what extent humans can go to acquire money is unspeakable, Bitcoin is money.

We shouldn't be ignorant of the functionality of KYC; the victim may coincidentally had filled his/her personal data information on an exchange or for Bounty campaign which through means the hacked was done and the entire information submitted on the exchange stolen and been used against the victim. Let's be careful on how we submit our personal data online all in the name to claim just some shitcoins.

Looks like I have been inviting robbers too as I have been wearing bitcoin king shirt for sometime in the school of my kid. What is more worrisome is that I don't have much BTC myself to give to my robbers. If a bitcoiner have luxurious car then he also invites robbers, its an advantageous for robbers to only victimize cryptousers as the coins are hard to take back.

Well, I can't tell for sure how he was traced and tracked. The continues problem of having to compulsorily undergo KYC in exchanges and some ICO can't be completely ruled out. Another possible conspiracy theorem are his friends or acquaintance. This is a terrible case of having your Private key with you, which is inevitable.

The robbers probably got the user's identity from some company or someone who has information.

There are many ways the suspects could have had an idea that the victim held bitcoins or some sort of cryptocurrency.
I am also not a fan of centralized exchanges, but It is really unlikely that an exchange had released personal information of account holders.

No matter how secure your passwords might be, if you are dumb enough to tell everyone that you're a bitcoin trader and holds a lot of coins, a pipe and anything blunt will be enough to crack that password open. For some reason, I'm inclined to think that the trader is living his life as an influencer of some sort, leading to this brutal action done by the suspects. Or it could be that some rogue employee on the platform he's trading on has gone mad and traced one of the rich clients in order to get something 'directly' from him. Well in any case, KYC data should be kept safe, somewhere secure and only a handful of personnel given access to, if not, more and more things like this will happen in the future. And for users, please embrace privacy as it will be the only thing keeping you from being clubbed and tortured like this guy had.

Coinbase just got caught selling their customers' data and other exchanges are doing the same.  If you ever signed up for a crypto exchange your info is out there somewhere and believe me, it is not safe.  I'm sorry to hear about this guys losses but he was probably already very wealthy and could withstand the hit.

This is serious and because of these malpractices whole crypto gets a bad mark. But, I don't think this is the case in this incident. The trader must have boast his trading skills and profit online. The robbers might be relatives/ friends or hired help by them who know about his virtual assets. No one can be trusted these days. That is why even Satoshi Nakamoto hasn't revealed his identity yet.  Wink

Remember bitcoin was only a few years old, and it must be a huge milestone for bitcoin to become a money to die for, looking back at old day, bitcoin barely worth a pizza, let alone die for a pizza would make more sense. And it's not easy to stay anon for long, when everything fly through the moon, all the hodlers making new live streams every damn hour, trying hard to reveal themselve.

My country has a bitcoin stock exchange called BTCTURK. Recently, fake e-mails were sent to users of this BTCTURK.. their purpose was to steal people's bitcoins. Well, hackers. How did btcturk find their e-mail addresses?  i think, this has been an answer to the question you ask.

Exactly.

Just like on my situation where i do put some Bitcoin sign into my own motorcycle and lately i realized about the possibility on being robbed because you do let
yourself become attractive to criminals since they do know that you are engage with crypto and would really have the money to ransom on or to pay up when they try to harass you.

Doesn`t need to be an inside job. Maybe trader was sharing his trading success with the person that he didn`t suppose to. Or was discussing about it with his friends in some public place while this criminals were near by and listening. Finding was easy then, they probably just tracked him.

Sometimes youtube trading stars show their balance figures while talking about their strategy on social media. Cryptocurrencies are easy to lose trace by robbers and they usually convert the stolen bitcoins to anonymous coins for bypassing the required documents for KYC.-

It's best not to discuss bitcoin with ANYONE. Even family. And that's not because I'm saying you can't trust them personally, but they might talk to their friends or coworkers about how their son or their nephew just made a fortune in bitcoin. It might get the wrong kind of people thinking.

And it's one of the issues that gives me pause for thought about a future world where everyone is "their own bank". Will we all need to live in fear of thugs breaking into our homes and demanding our hardware wallets and PIN codes?

Does it sound similar to the idea "never believe to anyone even to your wife"? I don't agree with your opinion, talking about your bitcoins in public places is not a good idea but talking to your family about crypto is a requirement for managing cash flow to the family's budget. I talk about bitcoins and blockchains in public places but I never answer any question about my crypto holdings.

It definitely is an inside job. How would someone even know that the person (who got tortured) is holding bitcoin and has the private keys to his wallet? He probably told someone about it (his friends or co workers) and the words started to spread out until it reached the ears of the wrong person who has ill intentions. What a sad story I would say. I hope the police catches those culprits.

This is terrible advice, what if you die all of a sudden.  Now your coins are forever lost as your family has no way to access them.

People store valuable items in their houses and the majority of people don't fall victim to home invasion.  There is no reason to live in fear because a few robberies make the news.

Well, I would revise that slightly to perhaps permit knowledge with a significant other, or in the absence of that, another family member you can trust well. But make sure that they're smart about it and that they're not spreading information to other people. Yes, maybe that sounds too cautious. But we all need to be careful with our safety. And I say that because bitcoin is essentially digital cash. It is well known to law enforcement that people who keep large sums of cash at home are common targets of theft. For instance, people who sell drugs or run home casinos put themselves at high risk. Also people who recently won a state lottery.

I think crimes like this against BTC owners will increase in the coming years, unfortunately. Be safe.

my guess is that this incident must have been intervened by a known person very cruel concluding that the incident could have been from an outside person or an original criminal but he knew from a colleague or neighbor of the victim, supposedly as a trader or businessman must hide his identity and be aware of criminals who lurk. allegedly the incident surely have been planned by criminals

It is obvious there is an insider involve in the deal, who must have known the value of BTC  he has and he was trail, also there is a possibility of them to locate him through the Location tracker  mechanism from his phone or laptop, it is important to ensure we secure ourselves in order to play safe

Looks like an inside job. I never reveal my secret assets on public forums but this guy go so far. Similar accidents happened in Russia and suspect took the copy of private keys with force. They mainly use the gun and there is a small chance to escape from the house. Unfortunately, it happens.

in the real world when someone goes to the street and shouts, "I have a lot of money or I have money" so this person is attracting thieves, in the crypto world people boast with high amounts of bitcoins they own and forget that bitcoin is something that serves to buy goods and services and be a good investment, of course this will attract thieves

it is better to shut up and do the trading silently.

I agree

This is the exact reason why I really dislike buying those bitcoin stickers and shirts. The last thing I want is to be tortured for me to give the criminals my private keys. Wearing bitcoin or cryptocurrency-related paraphernalia is pretty much like a huge "rob me" sign and is a huge unnecessary risk a person is taking.
He must be very open to his friends about his bitcoin holding and its too bad for him. I also don’t want to use any sign of cryptocurrency appear on me because I believe being anonymous will keep you in safe. Well, they are proud to use bitcoin but hackers are just watching you and looking for some good time to get your keys. This must be an eye opener for those who are keep on posting about their bitcoins on social sites.

What should we do then? Never go to any bitcoin meetings and conferences? Avoid trading on localbitcoins or any other OTC markets because they can see us and follow us home? If a restaurant nearby opens bitcoin payments we should never do it because somebody will see us scanning a qr code and follow us home to torture the shit out of us.

It is a hard question to answer, friend. There are many possibilities that criminals can do. They may know the victim's Bitcoin amount from his Bitcoin address, or the victim ever said his asset to other people. Let the police reveals the truth, but we must take a lesson from this case. Be careful to manage our asset and never share the information to others.

I can’t believe nobody brought this always relevant XKCD comic up in 4 pages of thread:

Meaning is no matter how secure your private keys management system is,play it safe, downplay your involvement in crypto, preserve your privacy at all costs, don’t do stupid things like wearing bitcoin shirts or badges: a 5 $ wrench might be waiting for you next time.

I've read same case before and to be exact it was this; 'Britain's first Bitcoin heist as trader forced at gunpoint to transfer cyber currency'

You shouldn't let others know that you are into bitcoin, remain lowkey. You don't have to boast on how much you've got or as much as possible just don't let others that you are into bitcoin.

That should be the way of living, remain lowkey.
No need to boast on anyone. And sometimes social media channels have large role on how they learn about you.
You don't know someone is already following your movements and updates via your fb, twitter, name it...
Be discreet with your life if you want to avoid being the target of these criminals.

There was a Brit who was robbed for BTC but his company name was something like 'bitcoin trading ltd' and it had his home address attached to the company registration. That's not too clever.

I wonder how public this guy was.

This is the exact reason why I really dislike buying those bitcoin stickers and shirts. The last thing I want is to be tortured for me to give the criminals my private keys. Wearing bitcoin or cryptocurrency-related paraphernalia is pretty much like a huge "rob me" sign and is a huge unnecessary risk a person is taking.

no meyt wearing crypto shirts and other accesories does not mean that you are presenting yourself to criminals/robbers   .  didnt you see that other rich people also wear's expensive brands  ? but they are rarely got robbed   . its only up to the person if how he secure himself  .  in my case i always wanted to wear crypto apparels but i cant find anything on our place    . i dont scared to get robbed because i dont carry all of my cash whenever i go outside .

wherever trade is really cruel, always using a variety of ways to get profits, then for bitcoin traders not to enter trade if they are not ready to lose, do thorough preparations because trade has no tolerance. So fight ... and get a victory.

Good meme there mate, its not even a wrench the suspects used but they used drill to torture the victim just to get victims bitcoins and cryto assets, how painful is that? its like you are in the movie "saw"
For those who have big  or just normal crypto assets, just get cautious and be discreet.

We never know how the criminals know that the victim has a bitcoin and he is a trader because in that article is not saying the details.

There are too many possibilities including the criminals are a friend of the victims, so the criminals know what his job, where he lived, and perhaps they know how much bitcoin he had.

I never reveal my identity as a trader to anyone in here including my family, but I only tell them that I work by online. My family knows that I have bitcoin, but they don't tell other people.

Actually, we can prevent something bad happens to us like that story. We don't have to tell other people the details of our lives and only say that we are a person who searches for money from the internet, don't use bitcoin to pay in offline if you are afraid to become the next target, never tells that you have tons of crypto in your home. But if somebody asks you when you teach them about crypto, you can say that you don't have many coins and you still trying to collecting the coins from faucet Grin

I think it's more safety for you because I guess people will underestimate you and they don't think that you are a millionaire behind your shirt. Don't look to be glamour because you can be the next target.

Robbery, hacks, stealing, cheating everything is there on the human minds. To stay safer on the cryptocurrency network it is our responsibility to keep ourselves anonymous. Though people aren't aware of bitcoin, people know about its value which is the reason for these kind of robbery. From my view it is good, not to show any signals that you're a bitcoin user or trader.

if you remove the "bitcoin" part of the news you can see that incidents like this has been happening for a very long time. basically whenever you publicly announce that you are holding valuables at home without any precautions or security you are technically sending an invitation to all the thieves in the world to come and attack you.
there is also always more to these stories than what you read on the news sites.

More information here:
Quote
Maybe the criminal stole KYC data from the exchange. I am so sad to hear that. This is show how important is the anonimity. I suggest anyone to use coin blender such as bitblender to get complete anonimity, safe a huge amount of bitcoin in exchanges site is very risky, it will be better if we always send our profit to our main wallet via bitblender.

Is this the first kind of such crime? This news could have opened everyone's eyes on looking at how cryptocurrency really have made an impact on the people as of today. Yet this one isn't that good as an example since this would create some minor problems about holding cryptocurrencies. Though I don't think people will really have to fear about this incident but such actions could serve as a reference for some other crimes about to occur if those people are not caught and dealt with accordingly.

Assuming he don't have a "I have BTC, rob me" sign over his head, do you think this is an inside job involving someone working in the exchange? Do we even have protection against those? I believe with banks they can track which employee has accessed a client's records.

This is the risk of using an exchange. They know who you are. You can send the profits earned to various adddresses but they'd still know how much you were making.

Why such hype by a normal robbery?

I think this got more to do with people assuming that those dealing in bitcoins tend to be more discrete about their finances plus the possibility that this is an inside job.

My advice for Americans and those where it's legal to do so is to arm yourself and always have your gun handy in case violent intruders enter your property. In Europe, perhaps there are other safeguards. What happened in the Netherlands is a great example of why gun ownership should be allowed among the general public.

I'd agree to some point. Though, here in the Philippines even though the Bitcoin is legally accepted. Having a gun with or without permit will still cause issues, Legally. Well as many of people would know that the system of the Philippines is quite corrupted. They can overturn everything here, in example; same case to this one, Intruders dressed up as a Police, (Our police is somehow (can be linked) to those crime that had happen) assaulted you, These people can easily manipulate things, especially if these people are quite powerful. Well, bottomline, I'd rather be prepared than to be sorry.

This case, might be an inside job or something. These people knew what could be the worth of the Victim, and there's a big probability that the Victim knew his attackers. Moreover, This is not the first case that a crypto investor/enthusiasts was attacked or got robbed. I'd only advise that just be more vigilant, and don't overthrow your knowledge about it, to the point that you'll include how much is the worth that you have.

This is unfortunate and must be an insider's job.  It is about time that some update will be done in the blockchain so that any stolen fund can be returned to its original wallet once a petition is raised by the person whose wallet is compromised. This will help to reduce this incident of wallet hacking.

This is an insider thing which he must have loose guard by telling someone how much he worth in crypto which lead to the brutal abuse and selling of his funds , this will be a lesson to all in crypto not to disclose any info regard their crypto worth to any one as to play save or even don't let anyone know what he is doing as no one know who might be washing to get you by all mix, play save as crypto is decentralized and can only be sweet if you keep every info to yourself.

Personally crypto already provide very secure login to prevent any hacker to access people's account.
So for what can I see, there are highly chance that inside man involve , second the private key being stole through phising site.

Sometimes, I was wondering that something already secure still can be hack...

LOL. I like it. Some crypto people really are funny. I mean, I totally agree that we do need to take security seriously. But I think far more often, people end up locking THEMSELVES out of their funds rather than thwarting these mastermind three letter agency level subversive attacks on their personal bitcoin stashes that they seem to envision in their paranoid fantasies. Any security professional can tell you that people are the weakest links in any security protocol. And that can include ourselves!

I don't think this was an "inside job". Sure, it's possible. Anything is. But it's much more likely IMO that several people simply knew that he was big in crypto trading and that he kept a large stash at home. Like I said earlier in this thread, people like drug dealers are victims to these type of robberies all the time. If people know you keep a large sum of cash (or digital cash) at home, you can potentially be a victim. So it's best for people to use common sense, keep their coins safe on a hardware wallet (but don't make it so complex that you forget how to access it) and more or less keep quiet about it!

This could be a fake news from my view anyway if it was real then maybe someone reported the guy to the authorities and were able to trace his IP address. Maybe the suspect sent the funds to a known exchange and got his identity revealed? My only concern there though is that he was tortured in front of his 4-year old kid which could traumatize the kid. That's not good.

Yeah exactly. And to me this is some sort of someone selling private informations maybe from KYC or what that resulted into brutality. I think we need to be really anonymous for our safety. Inside job is also another part of an angle to that incident. Lawless elements are lurking so I think the best thing to do is to stop posting or wearing anything that may trigger such brutal incident to happen again.

Most of you are way too paranoid.  Look at all the famous people that attend crypto conferences and this never happens to them.  I'm sure Craig Wright or John Mcafee wouldn't be hard to find and we know they are holding large amounts of crypto.  Live your life and don't worry about something that is unlikely to happen.

Do not ever disclose your assets anywhere. Keep your private keys at safe places and keep you funds in different wallet. This is really sad that a crypto trader is brutally tortured in front of his 4 years daughter, criminals never have emotions, local police must have taken care of it but always play safe.If you earn good money from cryptocurrency, never disclose it to anybody, never share information about your crypto wallet. Disclosing and exposing your money will not increase it rather it will put you on risk, stay safe.

The suspects probably got the information from Friends, family members or friends could have been the suspects.  I doubt it is from the exchange, it is a possibility though.

I wish there is a feature that helps split owners coins into many parts with different private keys to prevent thieves from stealing the whole coins if the private keys are requested from the victims by the thieves.

Some users treat bitcoin as if it was not money and they advertise to the world how much bitcoin they are holding, however would you tell people how much money do you have in your bank account even if you do not know them? If the answer is no, then keep the size of your bitcoin holdings private even if they are small, because there is always a chance that someone could believe that you are some sort of whale just because you use cryptocurrencies and that is no good.

I wonder how did they know that the person is a trader?
Unless the person post it on his social media or tell anyone around him there is no other way they would know,
And also if this was an inside job why would he be the target.

Those are criminals. Those people literally scanning potential victims and it's possible that the trader was in their radar and they have build a 'case' against him for months and they took sweet time to let the traders feels comfortable and then they attack. Gutless mofo, they should be really put behind bars for this crimes.

I have heard these sort of news in the past too, never ever reveal your identity to anyone you meet online or boost about your crypto wealth to anyone or post your trading exploits in social media, i am not sure how he was exposed to a bunch of criminals, unless they are caught and how they took him as a target it is just speculation. I have not seen any updates about the past crimes too, until they are caught you never know how they targeted him.

Knowing the name of a criminal is one thing but finding the face that carry out the crimes is another thing, before any criminal will carry out a criminal act he must work with information. The identity of the bitcoin trader might have been disclosed to the criminal by an insider.

Firstly what do you mean by an inside job ?
Do you think that the creators and other people involved with this can be that free !?
They can't !
And also contacting them would mean you are yourself searching for someone about whom you know nothing thus just let this slide this can never happen.
Sometimes people don't have any problem with sharing their personal identities online , here , like me  Grin thus this is surely that case.
He would have just left traces here and there other than that nothing else could happen.

It could be possible that it was his acquintance who did it. Guess he owned big amount of crypto coins or bitcoin on his wallet. If they got his private keys and immediately open his account infront of him, there is no other way that he can get it back. How sad, that we are not aware that the one's we are opening up about crypto infos are the one's who are thinking how to steal it.
Hope, they'll find justice to that man who got brutally tortured.

Most effective way for criminals not to get compromised by the FBI while transferring money and robbing someone else's pocket.
Now, we starting to realize the darkside of cryptocurrency if we're not very careful not to expose our identity.

This could also trigger the robbers. I have seen few people
in my place who wore tshirts and jackets with the big BTC logo. There were even cars with cryptocurrency stickers. And this post above is absolutely right, its like these people are inviting robbers to rob them.

The suspect work on information because how did he know the man is a bitcoin trader or is the man doing his bitcoin trading in the open because for all I know since bitcoin is a high tech it trading is mostly carried out using computer device and very difficult to no is any one is involve in it without being told.

As for me, to give an advice regarding how a trader being brutally humiliated through cyber activities like hacking and phising. In order to be certain and have more secure storage of funds if you're a trader, don't park your asset at trading site since the market wasn't moving very fast on transactions. Based on my experience early this year, I was luckily pulling out and transfer my holdings to secured mew from exchange site which I used to choose stored my coins. Unfortunately after two weeks the site was hacked due to security breach problems. Always have a vigilant and advance thinking towards your holdings in order to prevent any bigger circumstances which might occur randomly, always be at safe side.

This is simply a planned work from someone that is close to him. It’s always advisable to keep your assets or worth as secret from anyone because of this kind of issues. Same thing happened in some part of my country where robbers were attacking people and telling them to login into their wallet and send the funds out to their own wallet. All these could only be as a result of a close person leaking some informations to the robbers either knowingly or unknowingly.

I think there are a number of possibilities 1, there is a planned violence / robbery done by the closest person
2, because we may often tell someone about our work, so that someone is jealous of us and wants to get all our assets
3. there is a chance
so we have to be careful both talking and acting. Remember ... crime is sometimes not because it was planned but because there is a chance

Could this be an inside job?

maybe he saw the guy doing trades or doing crypto related transactions  . and maybe he already aware about cryptocurrency since we know that most criminals are smart people , they are also updated on what is new and what is old   . this news serves a lesson to us  , that we must not do any money related work when we were outside because criminals are always lurking around   .  its also better to not store all your funds in your wallet because you can  also get hacked online  .

yes, it can be a lesson for us not to show whatever we have to others because it can provoke crime for ourselves,I think the 3 people thought he was a big trader who had a lot of cryptocurreny so we have to be careful about what we have because we don't know who is jealous of us.

This couldn't be an inside job maybe the criminals might just know that he is a crypto earner because of his social media account.
This is why we should be careful on bragging about crypto this could happen to anyone so be careful.
And besides if this is an inside job the criminal would target whales and this wouldn't be the last if this is an inside job.

Wearing bitcoin or cryptocurrency-related paraphernalia is pretty much like a huge "rob me" sign and is a huge unnecessary risk a person is taking.

LOL

woops. my bad for the late counter argument

Not necessarily. You go to bitcoin meetings and conferences for you to increase your network and to actually gain knowledge; and you trade on localbitcoins to simply buy/sell bitcoin. You're taking these risks in exchange for something that's supposedly going to benefit you. Wearing bitcoin shirts and putting up stickers on the other hand though? Does it really benefit you in anything besides bragging rights? It's up to you to decide if it's actually worth it. But for me, it's definitely not.

Also, you can go to conferences and simply leave after with only the people in the conference itself knowing you, along with probably a few people outside the venue. With bitcoin transactions in person, you can simply transact in a safe and secure place like a mall, and in the end, the only person who learns that you hold bitcoin would be the person you're transacting with. But with stickers and shirts? You're basically broadcasting it to every single person you pass by. Let that sink in.

The world currently is very unsafe and its really not adviceable telling people how much Bitcoin you own. It is best you keep such information to yourself as you don't know who might want to attack you over your private key. Also wearing stuffs that shows you into cryptocurrency can also expose you, though such things help promote bitcoin and cryptocurrency during conferences and seminars but then we need to be careful. God help us all.

Its really a pity this guy had to go through such and am sure someone who knows him did this. We should not at anytime disclose our crypto asset to anyone at any point in time. There are desperate people everywhere who don't want to work but looking for who to rob. Keep your Bitcoin worth to yourself and be careful who you tell you deal on Bitcoin.

There's a rule that usually close friends or family are connected with the crime. I don't know the statistics but it can be 70 % of cases or even more that are done with help of a close relative, friend, neighbor, coworker, lover. .

It's also possible they traded with him in person or saw him bragging about it at a bar. The less people know how wealthy you are the better.

That's why being anonymous is crucial to most traders and whales because if not, then you will risk your life to any criminals lurking around. By looking at the incidents there are lots of angles to view and accounted for the local police. People should choose carefully their trusted friends and relatives because you will never know it might be one of them.

My advice for Americans and those where it's legal to do so is to arm yourself and always have your gun handy in case violent intruders enter your property. In Europe, perhaps there are other safeguards. What happened in the Netherlands is a great example of why gun ownership should be allowed among the general public.

For inside jobs it won't be much useful, you would keep assuming 'I'am safe' as you are with familiar person and then you just got betrayed.

May be it's just better idea not to not boast about your crypto holdings, or you are in crypto et all.

Number 2, in most cases there is an inside guy. Close friend, family member, someone who heard how you talk about something valuable that you have. Number 3, if you don`t close the door some random passing guy will try to use the opportunity.

In Europe, perhaps there are other safeguards. What happened in the Netherlands is a great example of why gun ownership should be allowed among the general public.

In US it`s legal to have firearms and you can shoot someone in your house and to not go to jail for that, it`s not the same in the rest of the world. Personally I don`t like guns, but when we talk about this situations when criminals raid your home, when they threat you and your family, what should someone do?
When we talk about this I always think about a movie Law Abiding Citizen, when criminals kill his wife and daughter, for couple dollars.

When people stop telling everyone about how much money they have?
Stop doing it.
Same about crypto. It is easy to steal if the scammer has a private key address actually. People are greedy. And they are ready to do a lot for a couple of BTC. Take care, please. And do not tell strangers about your funds. Money loves silence.

Yes this news is very true I read the full news some weeks back ,my advice is for everyone crypto fans to be very careful not to disclose what there coins and tokens worth because words travel faster than anything in this world ,if you want to stay safe don't let strangers especially knows your worth or you can easily be a target

Right. I don't get it either. Probably share it with a few well trusted friends and family members who you're 100 sure won't betray you for money. It' sad that this has to happen to someone within the crypto community but we all have to practice caution everytime.

This is a very difficult case for the authorities since we know that bitcoin is not that eatablish and known. The authorities will going to look for it and learn about the system for it could also lead for the suspects arrests or identity. Whatever the authority will hope for the success in cracking the case and as for kid hope she goes to counseling.

Highly insane. It is good to be anonymous in this field.

Yeah but that could happen to anyone with anything, including fiat money.

The thing is that in this case it's a lot easier to do so, you only open an online wallet quick taking some measurements and that's it. A lot easier than a bank account in a place without extradition and/or using certain financial proxies but the people who do that kind of stuffs do it for a lot of money, those kind of things are not cheap.

It's really hard to know who to trust in this life, really hard.

yes, it can be a lesson for us not to show whatever we have to others because it can provoke crime for ourselves,I think the 3 people thought he was a big trader who had a lot of cryptocurreny so we have to be careful about what we have because we don't know who is jealous of us.
Of course this is a lesson for us that not everyone likes what we have, even some are jealous, so they make the decision to rob or force us to release our bitcoin.
The Bitcoin that we have is anonymous, so the factor is we show or boast as bitcoin owners so that bad people target the bitcoin we have. So it's better to keep quiet because it makes us safe.

This is the same reason why i am always against sending KYC in not so important matters here in crypto, specially when joining bounties because of the risk like this, earning small amount weekly (and sometimes a chance of being scammed)but obliged to give our identities

Hope this will serve as examples for those bounty hunters and investors as well to keep the security always and never just trust anyone for our identity

even I don't think there is a conspiracy that shares the merchant's personal data, except for the person who really knows that he is a crypto trader who has many assets.
and there is no exchange that distributes user data especially to commit violence to take over the asset.
so I think this case is a different case involving people around him

This is a rare case, probably the robber knows about this guy and how he the victim earn and had that huge bitcoin. Since, bitcoin is difficult to trace because of its anonymity then tracing the suspect using block chain technology during the transfer may be difficult. There other coins also that could be use to convert bitcoin and then encash them or transfer funds to an exchange that do not do KYC and then withdraw them.

This is a police matter so we will just hope that the case would be resolve immediately and justice will be serve.

It should be solved by local authorities as the crime committed, but it's also an indirect awareness for people who's involved around crypto to make
some extra precautions, bitcoin or crypto currencies have a fiat value knowing that you have lots of it will endangered your life.

Well that is a good question how could the criminals know that he is a trader?
Maybe through social media we could see some traders posting some of their profit or being proud that they are trader or online earners.
Could this be an inside job?
How could this be an inside job we know that there are plenty of trading site out there and how could they do it only in one trader?
And if this is an inside job don't you think that they would go after to the whales ?
I don't really think that this would be an inside job maybe just a coincident .

But this can be inside job as well since theres a chance that KYC has being used to trace us from some exchange or gambling sites as well

I think bitcoin trader known the suspect because if not,how did the suspect know that he owns and holds a lot of coin if he did not known or close person who do that to him? Now this is the lesson to all of us. In terms in privacy and security we need to be carefull and make it private for your own safety.

When you can't steal or steal Altcoin from anyone, how do you do it? Simply kidnap the person and torture them, forcing them to say that the private key has access to all the Altcoin they have. As this market grows and Altcoins have higher and higher prices, it will make the same attacks more and more.

We all know that cryptocurrency world is anonymous and there is no way that the suspect knows that the victim has a cryptocurrency account not unless he tells them about it or post it on social media. Since he was tortured, I assume that the criminals know the victim because of posting his personal life in public. He maybe tells that he had a huge money in there also for the suspect who force and torture him.

No matter how secure is your wallet. If someone knows that you own some big amount of money then you won't be so resilient to physical violence. If some of you will get big amount of BTC then don't be greedy / stupid and use a good bitcoin mixer.

My advice for Americans and those where it's legal to do so is to arm yourself and always have your gun handy in case violent intruders enter your property. In Europe, perhaps there are other safeguards. What happened in the Netherlands is a great example of why gun ownership should be allowed among the general public.

Even a gun won't be that useful when someone performs a planned attack when you are not expecting it.

I'd say it's pretty damn risky to go after someone who ALWAYS carries, and has his gun right by him in his sleep, but OK. It's not a smart thing to rob in some states, in my humble view. But whatever floats the boats of idiots out there.

oh no, this is terrible. I suggest to all of us that if you get a lot of profit in your trade. you should not show it on social media or even your friends. except close friends. because this is very dangerous. the crime happened because of an opportunity. beware and stay humble even though you get a lot of profits.

Nowadays, the governments all around the world give very little respect for individual privacy. In many of the jurisdictions, Bitcoin traders are required to give details about their wallet balance and their weekly or monthly turnover. But the cops are claiming that in this case none of the crypto was stolen from the victim. So I guess the criminals were not that accustomed with crypto?

Oh, sad to know this. I think that should be the case of pre-planned everything and nice set-up of time to steal what they have stolen. I hope concerned departments will do the rest to get everything for the affected family.

We should knows somtimes even the trusted people they can traitor because of self interest so we need to double care our investment. One to two person are enough to know the secret.

Oh yeah for sure, this is really important. Not everybody is a good person in this world, at all.

If you want to be relaxed, then you could hire bodyguards of course. Otherwise then it's better to take some security measurements. I personally believe that the first option is better if you have a big amount.

Why? Because preying eyes will eventually target you.

You have wisely said a vital point to us that we don't need to disclose of how much cryptocurrency we are holding in our wallets. It can help the criminals to detect that persons details.

Unless the criminals have access to kyc details you provided to an exchange. I've read this kind of story probably two times now and it's alarming. You're both right that basic precaution should include never bragging or disclosing how much btc or crypto you own. It'll do more harm than good unless you tell to an extremely trusted family member or loved one.

Its really painful such things are happening. The truth is we don't know the mind of people, thus we have to be very mindful of who we tell we posse Bitcoins. There are people who will go the extra mile to extra our bitcoin details from us. We just have to be careful out there.

No one is stupid enough to say that they own a certain number of Bitcoins in the public. But the tax regulations and laws in certain countries requires you to divulge about your crypto holdings to the authorities. And once your information is loaded to the public servers, normally it won't take much time for that data to end up in the hands of shady people.

This is very alarming to all people who trade cryptocurrency out there. Do not share your personal profit amount and always secure your private keys. Sharing to other people that you are in trading is not advisable. This news will represent a warning to all of us who trades crypto.

That's what we all should be ready to do if we want to avoid what happen to guy. Some person will always say much of what they have and owe, even the one they did't. Sometime is better to be secretive than be open to dangers with friends.

KYC must be banned to all cryptocurrency it can be a way for us to have another victim again.

I wonder whose this trader is, for sure he/she has an account here in BCT.

hacking tax authority servers just to rob crypto traders? that sounds a bit elaborate.

plenty of people are stupid enough to boast about their crypto holdings in public---this isn't the first time this type of thing has happened. like others have mentioned, this is why i am very discreet in public about my involvement with bitcoin and primarily only discuss it with trusted friends/family.

bitcoin=electronic cash, so obviously if violent criminals know you have access to bitcoin, you have a target on your back. plan accordingly and maybe don't go around flashing hardware wallets or slapping bitcoin stickers on your laptop.

This is the main reason why I don't say to anyone what I'm doing with regards to cryptocurrency. I don't want this to happen to me.

Maybe this trader shared some information on the internet like personal information, how he is earning in trading etc. I suggest not to share any information regarding this to social media platforms because you don't know what can happen to you after doing it.

Don't believe the victim has an account with Bitcointalk.org. There is a clear indication that the victim boast of his/her portfolios in Bitcoin. Never speak out of your portfolios to your neighbors becasue they might be your enemies.

Quite the opposite, there are a ton of public crypto figures that are boasting about their wealth.  Same thing goes for anyone rich, people love to show off.  The chance of getting physically tortured is still very small but people like to make it seem more likely than it really is.

I agree.  People are such creatures that they want to appear better than others.  And that they have more than others because they boast.  And then from the same tolerate.

Of course, you all are right in saying that need to talk less about cryptocurrency earnings. But on the other hand, how can we spread the word about crypto for its large-scale adoption if we are silent?

In order to spread awareness about the crypto-currency, you need to talk about its advantages and merits. Why do you think that you need to talk about how many coins you own, for this purpose? You can give examples of users who became rich after investing in crypto, but there is no need to give absolute numbers.

showing some numbers or showing some proof (ex. your reciept ) can make you look more believable than explaining bitcoin alone but you should be careful on which person you are talking to  . only do this method to someone that you fully trusted or recognize ( ex. your close friend or family ) so that you can be safe from theft and being tortured like what happen on the story of the op  .

This is quite sad. This is the exact reason why i disagree with the idea of KYC presented by most crypto exchange platforms. Your identity can be easily stolen and people can easily harm you with your stolen identity. Once these platforms securities are broken, identities are easily stolen.

in my opinion it is the actions of insiders namely people who already know the daily activities of victims or you can also get information about the victim's identity from KYC. so we should always be careful. and it's best if we work in cryptocurrency we don't use attributes or clothing that says bitcoin or cryptocurrency. it will make us the target of evil people.

There are so many possibilities that can occur in this case, they can know each other through social media or community, or they are family or close friends. In my opinion, the police must be able to find the perpetrators and find out the motives for the murder of the perpetrators as soon as possible.

This is indeed an inside job either from one of his friends or one of the sites where he use KYC and they use this information in order to find him.If its one of his friends then pretty sure it is caused by jealous if he is a big trader and earning good amounts or just have bad intention to him

That could be one of the main reason why the bitcoin trader gets tortured, money is the root of all evil and that is why we should avoid spitting some of our personal information like our income to our friends or even family members because jealousy can hit them and it might turn into some evil thing that will cost you life.

I am sure the person who committed the crime is the closest person. It could be family and friends, it would be difficult to know if people use bitcoin or not if they don't have a close relationship.

In my opinion, the victim has been targeted or has been spied on by the suspect. besides that I think the victim once told of his existence on social media so that the suspect could find the victim and steal the victim's coin. I also suspect that the suspect is a hacker.

Insiders job? Probable. But it could be just what people see on the trader. Many people right now are jumping to spreading bitcoin into society easily by making t shirts about bitcoin, tattoos about bitcoin, tweeting bitcoin, talking about bitcoin in social media.

People, this is exactly what you need to do, don't try to spread bitcoin carelessly. Of course, we want a mass adoption but if mass adoption means your life, that would be something not worth to take risk.

Investors with significant investments in Cryptocurrency are attracting a lot of interested criminals. For Crypto you can hijack all if you know anyone's private key, so that's why many criminals attack Bitcoiner. I hope people use Blockchain anonymity and not let anyone know your Cryptocurrency. Pls, protect yourself and not brag about your property.

This is really making me worried.

I mean we are investors of a cryptocurrency and we all know that Bitcoin also has a feature of anonymity and if that already happen, what more to people that don't usually know how to secure their wallet and even their identity? We should really be careful with the information we are sharing on the internet, it could be really dangerous if people know our information. We are not just putting ourselves in danger but also our loved ones.

I don't think that the anonymity of bitcoin is involved here. Maybe the suspect was close to his place or one of his friends that he knew that this guy is making a lot of money and because of the jealousy for the money, he tortured this bitcoin trader for hoping that he will get his money and all of his bitcoin because we all know that 1 bitcoin is worth a lot of money.

i don't know but i think this are not the everyday rubbers who will rub you of your money or personal valuables and leave, this to me seem like something personal, a deal gone bad and the victim probably paying for it, because how many robbers actually go about mugging people and requesting for their private keys? i.e if they have knowledge of crypto in the first place, rather you get mugged for your wallet, jewelries in most cases and not private keys, it is sad to hear this but there is definitely more to that story.

This is exactly why like the rest of your assets: bank statements, land titles, or etc, you should never advertise your crypto holdings. Pseudo-anonymity is weak. Now for those crypto multimillionaires, they should get personal security as if they are CEOs of multinational corporations.

This is a bad and painful thing to happen to crypto holders. It's imperative to be completely anonymous when dealing with crypto. Obviously he was known to be involved in crypto dealings. I personally don't tell how much of what I do and have to people around me. Just give them an idea of the possibility with a caveat on my still thinking about it. This way no one knows that I have.

This is probably an inside job. There are times when being lowkey and silent about your achievements online is necessary. Anything that involves money attracts sins and crimes.
Whatever we're earning or how much we are earning each day in crypto should be kept in private to get rid of this kind of situation.

Of course.  If you think so all that is connected with money and cryptocurrency including this is all a sin.  And this one can never deal with and what will happen?  Will we degrade?

Well that will secured you from possible danger on your life, you need to stay being quiet even you already succeeding from this industry, that kind of an act always possible when we are dealing with money, crypto have it's value so there's a big need to protect yourself and your assets from possible attackers.

Bitcoin trader has been tortured brutally? How would those people knows that the person that they are trying to tortured is a trader of bitcoin? How the information of the person leak between those person who tortured him? If you are a Trader you must hidden your identity for your safety matters because if many people will know that you are a trader and they will know that you are getting a lot of profit, they wi try to hunt you and get your incomes in your trading job. So better lets be safe and dont give the private keys that we have, to avoid incidents like that. For now I am also a trader in a platform of darb finance, in which I am studying and exploring the trading world so that I can gain some income about it. In this trading platform it is easy to used and it is easy to  deposit and withdraw your income without any problem.

In my country, BTC deals are under investigation and traders may go to jail for this

Hmm... that is a very difficult situation. In countries such as Nepal and Bangladesh, Bitcoin is banned altogether. Anyone caught trading in Bitcoin will be charged with money laundering and sent to jail (Bangladesh arrested a few traders only last week). Under such circumstances, what are the options that a trader is having in case he is abducted and tortured by criminals?

it's terrible to hear such an event, and even though it was indeed the guy's fault for violating government policy but I don't think they should be treated harshly unless proven to be misusing Bitcoin for things that endanger many people it is quite comparable.
but if you only have Bitcoin and use it to trade then I think they are just enough to be warned in the right way.

The traders who were arrested in Bangladesh were not involved in any criminal activity. Their only "crime" was that they were trading Bitcoins, which is illegal in that country. Yes.. there were a lot of warnings about this. But was the government right in banning the trade of Bitcoin? It is legal in the vast majority of the world nations.

In Bangladesh it is illegal, and to my knowledge majority of the country take a stand of being neutral without imposing any ban or providing any legal support to the use of bitcoin. This isn't the first time such a incident take place, there were several such arrests of traders by the police in Bangladesh.

Bitcoin trading is done online and on exchanges like binance, bittrex etc where the countries like Nepal , Bangladesh has no control. Is it possible for the citizens of those countries to use good VPN and continue trading anonymously ?

The criminals who tortured the bitcoin trader knew he has bitcoins and definitely went after him to get access to his private details so as to take his bitcoins. We should all mind who will tell about our investment or about what we do. Not everyone really wish us well. Its a pity such a thing happened to that trader. Thank God his life was spared.

That is so dumb. Then how about those rich individuals who uses ferrari, carries a an expensive bag like LV or just even a latest Iphone? Don't do victim blaming because I know for sure that is well-planned and organized by those criminals. It's just that the fate of this fella is very unfortunate that he was targeted by this people.

It resembles a plot from a cyber-punk movie about the future. Of course, the situation is rather sad, and even the enemy would not like to wish that. But we still will never get complete anonymity. In any case, I think so. Otherwise, none of the existing state systems can exist. Each state controls and monitors its citizens. So that they pay taxes, do not violate the laws, etc. Having complete anonymity, your will not be able to track down and, accordingly, you will be able to evade taxes and other payments that the state imposes on you.

This is why it's not a good idea to expose yourself that you are into Crytocurrency. Others think that those who are into Cryptocurrencies are rich. Do such exchanges accept users from Nepal / Bangladesh? Also, even in case they are able to register, how can they make the deposits / withdrawals in fiat? These exchanges also need the KYC data, right? How can we be certain that the ID documents that we upload will not end up with the government authorities in Nepal / Bangladesh?

Better to remain lowkey and don't let others know that you are holding large fund in bitcoin.

Sometimes boasting of what you have isn't really recommended, it's better to show your success in a silent way.

We do care if misfortune happen to others.

Showing off to the public on what you've got is also a mistake. Remaining at your lowest potential personality would bring good especially if you held quite good amount of funds, you don't have to broadcast it so humbling down would be a better choice.

Anonymity is the most important thing in crypto period unless you can exchange it for something that might worth it like reputation, recognition etc.
Better to remain lowkey and don't let others know that you are holding large fund in bitcoin.

Sometimes boasting of what you have isn't really recommended, it's better to show your success in a silent way.
For the seek of our own safety and security.  We don't need to shout that we are Bitcoiners or crypto traders cause it will caught attention to them,  to the people who are robbers. I don't how safe we are in our place but for this scenario it is better to keep silent and have some business to disguise something..

Exactly. Big holders, traders and investors should tell nobody about their financial life, it's too dangerous and the threat comes from where you least expect it. Bitcoin is a wealthy asset, other people can become mad if they knew you hold it, mostly if they know you hold or trade a large sum.
In this trader brutally tortured's case, the story doesn't bring details, hard to imagine how the situation really happened: did the trader let the criminals come in? Or did they invade the house? How safe was the house? A trader dealing with bitcoin and having a 4 years old daughter should be more cautious.

Yes, you don't have to boast about it. If you are proud of it then show it in some other ways that you can still remain lowkey.

You don't know on who are those people that are looking at your updates. If the topic is money, everyone listen so be careful as those people that has bad intention might listen too.

You are blaming the victim here. Just ask yourself. How is it possible for a trader to remain anonymous? Even if you are trading in a platform such as Localbitcoins, your details such as name, phone number, email and bank account will be public. I just hope that the criminals who did this will be arrested and put behind bars without delay.

This is quite interesting and very upgraded way of stealing someone's money without cracking and bypassing it's private key.
There is a good chance that the suspect is his friend/relative or someone who knows more about him as the attack was planned.

This is also a good warning to all of us to be more careful not only in using the web but also to our surroundings as we didn't know what is our neighbor, friends, relatives and etc. were thinking.

It is to this reason we need to be extra careful with who we share our personal data and the types of platforms we sent to. Moreover, we shouldn't fully trust people. People will always be people and they can just "betray" you for money. Anyway sorry to the guy.

See look. This is exactly what I'm talking about. This person clearly did not read the news article and is just chiming in with an extremely bland opinion that has been given countless times already. Yeah yeah I realize I'm in a sig campaign too but at least I'm not a mindless automaton. Really this kind of behavior is embarrassing and the average outsider must think that bitcoiners are retarded.

In my opinion, the suspect knows the victim personally since the suspect/s get its private key to transfers the funds. For you to get the private key quickly, its impossible if you don’t know where he/she store his/her crypto. If you have large volume of crypto or even small amount, don’t trust anyone. And store your crypto in very safe and secure place.

This thing has happened here in my country where someone got beaten to give out his private key. We are living in dangerous times where people are desparate and willing to do anything just to make money. We have to be very careful with who we tell about our investments as not everyone is worthy of our trust. Just be careful out there.

why don't people learn how to work and earn. I am not surprised such a thing is happening as we have seen how people just want quick money without working for it. We should be careful with who we tell we have bitcoin investment as there are so many persons looking for who to steal from and will go through any means to achieve this.
