Recently acquried a copy of Ubuntu. Downloaded the client for it (using sources) - 5 minutes - all is well. A little faster then windows tho. 

Can you post some walkthru for instalation on Ubuntu, please? I tried that yesterday and totaly failed. Yeah, i'm linux noob.

Not much. Ubuntu machine has a slightly better hardware there is a chance it caused the diviations. Will look into it.

I don't really get it... So who mined it before? There are many references to "community" on bytecoin's page - where exactly is this community?
On wiki there is reference to mailing list... But no link to it.
https://cryptonote.org/ even gives you a list of developers' names - but googling them gives no real hits.

I think you are wrong about total coin amount - on main web site it is clearly said that there will be 184.46 billion BCN.
Also it is said that "One coin is divisible down to 8 decimal places (divisible up to 10^8);"
so i quess the right amount is 184,46 billion =184 467 440 737,09551616
That is how i understand it, correct me if i am wrong.

Block reward decreases each block according to the formula:  BaseReward = (MSupply - A)/2^18,  where MSupply = (2^64 - 1) atomic units and 'A' is amount of already generated coins

there are somewhat ~450.000 blocks mined - someone with math skills will have no problems to calculate that - playing around with wolfram alpha I would estimate that quite a ton of coins are already in existence. The first blocks had a massive reward. I am just too badly educated in math to get it into a general formula

I was intrigued with what  nakaone said regarding the number of coins in circulation. So I decided to make a research.

The formula on the Bytecoin's website was not prepared for easy calculations, so I decided to play around with it.

Here are the constants:

Which leads us to a new representation of the original formula:



These could be easily used in Excel.

Current block n = 447,800
M = 2^64 -1
q = 2^(-18)

So there should be around 15 104 430 719 645 400 000 atomic units. Dividing by 10^8 we end up with an aproximate number of current BCNs: 151 044 307 196.

I think this number is rather close to the truth considering that the net works for almost 2 years and that estimated number of miners is about 3,000.

this i also noticed! there are enough transactions going through..
you can check this by typing set_log 2 in the command window

BTW according to my calculations, first block reward was 703684.7574 that is only three times the current one. Not so much as it might seem from the beginning
