I can't see him winning this except he comes up with a some real good take down defense. The last match Chimaev had against DDP was probably his most dominant on the mat and everyone now knows what to look out for when up against him, I'll expect Strickland to try and keep the fight on the feet for as long as possible to even his chances. I dont see that happening

In the other fught Van is the defending champion but in many ways is trying to earn the right to wear that title around his waist. I didn't like his reaction after Pantonja got injured, so I'll be hoping he loses.

We can try to predict main event result. I am 100% Chimaev will quickly shots for takedown, but I am not sure how the fight will end. Either submission (that will be more humiliating) or fight goes full distance with dominating control and lazy punches like in a fight against DDP. Strickland must start fight with knee immediately and try to copy Masvidal-Askren.

If you are the coach and you want to find a way for Sean Strickland to win the fight, he needs to weather the storm in the first round, Sean Strickland has massive cardio and he could fight 5 rounds easily and has the experience fighting 5 round fight while we have seen multiple times where Khamzat Chimaev struggles in 3 round fights and usually slows down and gasses out in the third round and the only 5 round fight in his career was against Dricus du Plessis where Chimaev dominated.

This fight depends upon how Khamzat Chimaev is planning to pace the fight, if he goes hard, he gasses out and would find it difficult in the 4th and 5th round and Strickland could stop him, so in theory it is possible  .

@notblox1. I reckon that the Sean the cracker Strickland might be strangled to sleep in 1 rounds. This fight might end similar to Khamzat's fight against Robert Whittaker where Khamzat was very fast on holding Robert and strangled the neck of Robert. However, the difference is Robert has tapped and Sean the cracker might not tap and we will witness him strangled to sleep.

Think that happening would be the best result to shutdown Strickland quickly because he is a dangerous striker having evidence from his past performances against Israel Adesanya & Anthony Hernandez.
The biggest challenge for Khamzat is to shut his mouth up from all the garbage it spews in those interviews towards the buildup to the actual fight.

Wasn't Strickland in the same training gym with Chimaev last year? I remember seeing a video of them sparring and at the time they were joking around the gym.

Anyways, did anyone see the trailer of new UFC game? They showed how Ilia Topuria beats Arman Tsarukyan by giving him a good punch in the jaw. It was very funny and I'm sure that will drive Arman crazy.

Arman is more concerned about his ego more than anything else so it wouldn't surprise me if does drive him insane to see it, even if it is just in a video game.

It will be important for him to not get carried away with how dominant he was against DDP, he had never really convinced me even with his title reign and 2 successful defenses, his style of play heavily favoured Chimaev and made it easy for him to secure takedowns through the rounds. Strickland will not be so easy to put down and can hit with good power.

The first round will be very important. Whoever can do state the start will be able to make the opponent start second guessing. It Strickland defends some takedowns well, Chimaev may not shoot for then as much anymore, but if Chimaev takes him down early, Strickland will find it hard to get back up.

Like you, I don't see Strickland winning on this fight as well. He will just get annoyed by those hugging that Chimaev will be doing all throughout the match. If there's a way for Strickland from going down and put Chimaev to a point where both of them will focus more on strikes just like what we mostly see then there's a chance, but aside from that, there's no chance for him to win. As for the Strickland-Izzy fight, both are strikers, and he landed that punch that caused him to win. Pure luck? No, but this is a different fighter that he will be facing now.

Well, it's good that the UFC let both fighters speak what they want to speak because the more both fighters can speak, the more publicity they will get and that would definitely attract more people to watch. Still, nobody can top how McGregor speak to his opponents in press conference.

It is certain that the Chechen Khamzat will get the victory for this fight. However, after watching the press conference, the contrarian in me wants to witness the underdog win for this fight hhehehe. Sean the racist cracker Strickland is very much funnier on the mic. I would very much like to witness him on the mic again after the fight if he will be victorious hehe.

We've seen it against Makachev, and we will be seeing it again against Chimaev. Both of these fighters are focusing more on grappling and that makes it boring for the fans, but they don't care about it as long as they win the fight.

I agree. All the fighters are trained to take hits, so except the strike is a clean KO, they can ride it and continue the round, but if an elite grappler takes you down, they can secure ground control for the remainder of the round allowing them win the wound easily while dealing some damage, although Chimaev doesn't go for maximum damage or shoot for submissions much.

Grappling isn't necessarily boring except when you're not doing much while on top. Some fighters will want to grind and pound constantly when they secure a takedown which is fun for the fans. Chimeav is more bothered about securing the position and not finishing it off. That's how he maintains ground control for so long, when you start striking it gets chaotic and the opponent can find their way up in the scramble.

Yes they were in the same gym and it wasnt like one time accidental training. They have been training for quite a time and back then Strickland praised and supported Chimaev before Chimaevs fights. Strickland was also talking all the time, that even though Chimaev was a middleweight-welterweight, he sparred often lightheavy and heavyweight and often dominated them. That is why I think Chimaev will make his first title defense against Strickland and move up to next weight division. Why there is a conflict between them - I dont know, but 99% its fake drama to sell the fight

Khamzat made weight too. Since he was a little late, I thought there might be a problem, but he made weight. However, he looked terrible on the scale and afterward. Arman said in an interview that Khamzat would have to cut 21 kg. It was clear he’d gone through a very challenging weight-cutting process. This will undoubtedly affect the fight. If he can’t fully recover, his performance will suffer; if he does, Sean will feel a weight on him unlike anything he’s experienced before...

Strickland did not disappoint. He single-handedly hyped up the fight to an incredible level. If those two were respectful to each other, I doubt the fight would have 20% of interest it has right now.
You can feel sorry for all other fighters from the roster for being in the shadow of Chimaev and Strickland, but they will benefit too, as they will have many more people watching them fight than they would have otherwise.

As for the odds, Khamzat is obviously a clear favourite with odds of around x1.21, while betting on Sean right now can yield over x5.0.
I'm tempted to bet on Sean, but I think I'll skip as I flopped too many bets recently and I'm getting tired of losing lol

Betting on the fight going to the distance could be a good option. The odds are around x3.0 and such scenario is pretty possible. If Khamzat doesn't finish Sean early, he would probably go for a "blanket" tactic and the fight could play out in a similar fashion to Khamzat Vs DDP. But then again, there's too much genuine bad blood between them both not to expect both of them to aim for a finish.

That was quite a weigh in… Pretty lame that Khamzat didn’t make weight. Sean is pretty pissed off about it and for good reason in my opinion. He was already the underdog and now he’s going in at a lower weight and got kicked during the face off…

Don't do it. Don't waste your money on Strickland because he will lose on this fight, and although it's not 100%, the odds says it all. Still, anything could happen though.

I'm looking on the odds on Jackpotter, and it seems like putting your bet on the rounds going above 3.5 and even 4.5 is a good option as well. Also, putting a bet on Chimaev winning with points is attractive as well with around 3.60 odds. Strickland had 7 losses, but he never lost in a fight due to submission. 5 of his losses are because of decision and 2 because of KO/TKO. Because of this, I might put some bet on Chimaev winning due to a decision, and knowing that he's more of a grappler, unless he will find a way to submit Strickland, he'll win by unanimous decision.

Genuine bad blood before the fight, but after the fight, both of them will show respect to each other... or not? Maybe not because of how both of them spoke about their families during the press conference?
