This was not the best selection for UFC main event, but we cant always have big names there.
I might watch one or two fights from this event, but I am not excited about any specific fight.
More interesting for me now is Jon Jones who claimed on his X account that he is still the GOAT of MMA

Alex was being hyped up by the UFC, and people were comparing Jones and Alex; the possibility of a potential fight between them was a hot topic in those days. So, while Jones was running away from Aspinall, he kept bringing up that possibility. Jones is a very smart guy. Gane did all that to Alex, so God knows what Jones would have done to Alex.

What is everyone's speculation on the future of the big headed Topuria? It certainly appears that his inner personhood has certainly been defeated. We might witness his body return in the octagon, however, this will not be the same person anymore. This is his first time to receive this type of defeat and it might bring more questions in his mind.

I reckon this will be Paddy the baddy's chance to challenge the big headed Topuria! They have lost their fights against Justin Gaethje hehehe.

Ilia suffered significant physical damage, but the greater damage he suffered was psychological. No one will fear him the way they used to, and he’ll never be as fearless as he once was.

Looks like Gane ate both Jones' and Aspinal's lunch. Both of them wanted Alex but he was the one who got the fight and it's not entirely unlikely he will get the rematch. Probably not immediately, but it could happen.
A little eye poke at the right time really boosted up Cyril's career.
I'm not sure if the fight between Jon and Alex was being seriously considered by the UFC, but I think the moment is gone since Alex got dropped by Gane.
But it's nice to see that things really picked up in the heavyweight. Apart from the trio of Aspinal/Gane/Pereira, we have undefeated Hokit moving up the ranks and Pavlovich returning to his previous self. Volkov is also up there, currently ranked a number 2 contender. He won twice after his split-decision loss to Gane, but he's not doing the best when it comes to finishes. Decision wins, especially in the heavyweight, is not something that gets fans excited.

What is everyone's speculation on the future of the big headed Topuria? It certainly appears that his inner personhood has certainly been defeated. We might witness his body return in the octagon, however, this will not be the same person anymore. I hear he suffered cracked eyesockets, both of them, so he will be out for a while.
I like the idea of Topuria Vs Pimblett. That's a fght that makes the most sense, but only if Paddy beats Saint Denis on 12th July.

I'm equally more curious about what's next for Gaethje. He mentioned retirement around 2027, so maybe has only 1 or 2 fights left, so he will be picky. But UFC should give a title shot to Arman. He deserves it the most, after 5 straight wins, including big names.

The White House event was amazing for me. All of my favorite and deserving fighters won their fights. I'm just confused about one thing the UFC is heavily promoting Ilia Topuria which makes sense but they are also promoting Alex Pereira and that doesn't make much sense to me. Compared to legends like Jon Jones, Georges St-Pierre, and Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson, Pereira hasn't achieved nearly as much in the sport. He also has several losses on his record. I m fully convinced that if he fights Ciryl Gane again, he will lose again. If he somehow wins that fight, I don't think he would agree to a third match. The same thing happened with Magomed Ankalaev, and I found that very embarrassing.

UFC 330 has been officially announced. So we’ll get to watch the fight between Islam and Garry.
I've always felt that Garry is underrated, so glad to see him get his opportunity. Perhaps Islam is too big an opponent, though. I checked and it looks like the markets are not up yet on most sites, which is expected given the card is on Aug 15th.

If the odds stay at this level, I will probably place a bet on Islam closer to the event.
Maybe bet Islam via decision because Garry is as tough as they come and I don't see him losing to a knockout, and he's too slippery to get submitted. But yeah, Islam might make this one of those boring fights where he just controls the octagon and scores an easy 4-1 or even 5-0 fight on scorecards.

Everyone kept saying that Jon Jones was running away from Aspinall, but he has been fighting every challenge at the championship level since the age of 23 and never lost a fight. If you have been watching the UFC for the past 15 years, every opponent Jon Jones faced was hyped up as the most difficult challenge and he ended up winning anyway.

Tom Aspinall is not someone who is an undefeated phenom, he already lost 3 fights in his career and for someone to claim that an undefeated fighter like Jon Jones is terrified just does not make sense.

Ilia suffered significant physical damage, but the greater damage he suffered was psychological. No one will fear him the way they used to, and he’ll never be as fearless as he once was.
If you check out the fighters who were never the same after getting damaged at the hands of Justin Gaethje, like Tony Ferguson, James Vick and Donald Cerrone.

As per the published medical reports , Ilia Topuria has a fractured nose and fractures in both orbital bones . It is a very long recovery process and you never know if he will be able to take punishment like he used to after these injuries.

...

My dear friend, Aspinall held the interim championship belt for nearly two years. During that same period, Jon Jones fought his last fight against firefighter Miocic, and he did so while the interim championship belt had been held by Aspinall for one year.

Of course, Jon Jones is a legend. None of this can overshadow his career, but we know he did everything he could to avoid facing Aspinall.

The accusations and hatred directed at Cirly Gane are very justified and well-deserved. He previously gouged out Aspinall's eye. This time, she landed a series of blows to the back of Poatan's head. I think the referee should have deducted points he didn't even intervene. Despite those blows, Poatan got back on his feet. The weight difference is clear Cirly Gane is much bigger and more athletic. He would have won even without those blows; it wasn't necessary.

I forgot about the eye poke. That is starting to be a bad look. I don’t really know what a fair way to fight these problems are. New gloves would solve the eye pokes but getting hit in the back of the head is hard to be preventative for.

Herb Dean used to be most respected ref with tiny % of fcuk ups, now he seems to be losing his touch. But there sometimes moments when you can not land a clear strike as your opponent is moving all the time, and it ends to be illegal. What refs do in that situation? Stopping fight is not a perfect solution either, as one losses great advantage and other gets time to recover. I am not 100% sure that Pereira must blame Herb Dean for his loss. He should have avoided that jab earlier, he should have landed his own strike that will daze Gane. I would say it 1/4 Dean fault only.
I am the first one to tilt when I see an early stoppage but I have to admit, the job of these refs is not easy. It's so easy to say that was an early stoppage or say the ref allowed the right to continue for way too long. I usually see more people complaining about early stoppage than people who get mad at late stoppage, that's simply because we have bets on the fights and hoped the ref allowed so we still had a chance.

But in reality, the job of the ref is also to ensure the fighter's safety and well-being. Once the fighter takes any excess damage, it can be life-threatening, especially when it's coming from a monster like Gane.

It is not easy to be a ref, because in competition where one is winner and one is a loser, there will always be space for loser blaming ref for his loss. Just like in gambling people blame everyone and everything except themselves for the loss. Some of the hit were really illegal, but why dont Pereira blame himself for not avoiding Ganes jab and for jumping into single leg attempt of lame take down?

^  Decent event with more nicer match up than the Kape vs Horiguchi one.  But I don't know why Fiziev is signing up for all these tough match ups.  Looks like it's gonna be another loss for him.  Lolol.

It's like he's on a suicide mission or something...  A death wish.

But yeah, here's the results of the last event.  Looks like Kape is next for the 125 strap if Pantoja isn't ready.

Manel Kape def. Kyoji Horiguchi via TKO (punches) – Round 3, 2:42
Navajo Stirling def. Ion Cutelaba via TKO (punches) – Round 2, 3:23
Christian Rodriguez def. Hyder Amil via technical submission (guillotine choke) – Round 1, 3:43
Murtazali Magomedov def. Melsik Baghdasaryan via submission (twister) – Round 1, 1:17
Vinicius Oliveira def. Andre Fili via TKO (strikes) – Round 2, 4:56
Kevin Borjas def. Andre Lima via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Bia Mesquita def. Melissa Mullins via submission (armbar) – Round 1, 3:16
Mitch Raposo def. Allan Nascimento via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
Gaston Bolanos def. Michael Aswell via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Levan Chokheli def. Leon Shahbazyan via TKO (strikes) – Round 1, 0:23
Luana Santos def. Karol Rosa via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Shane Collins def. Otari Tanzilovi via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

I believe it would have been a much more honest exchange of punches than what happened against Gane. Dana White himself admitted that some blows were thrown, but that in the heat of the moment the referee can't see everything. I don't think Jones would have gone for that kind of game against Alex. That's why I think a Jones vs. Poatan fight would have been better.

Am I the only one who noticed that almost nobody talk's about Justin Gaethje's victory? Almost everyone talks about Ilia Topuria's loss. Or am I the only one who gets all the talk about Topuria on his news feed on every social platform?
Anyways, this guy, Ilia Topuria, is stuck in my head. I rewatched this fight for 100 times and the second round was an absolutely masterpiece, I've never seen such an amazing round (I'll be frank, I haven't seen much videos). The way Topuria was fighting in 2nd round, I'm in shock that Gaethje managed to survive and even stand on his feet on 3rd round and beat Topuria too harshly. But Topuria's skills are unimaginable good. For me, even though Gaethje won, Topuria is another level compared to him. It still doesn't odd up in my mind that Topuria lost. What an amazing performance the second round was. The did he allow him to walk to him with not protecting his face and letting Gaethje to hit him as much as he wanted? It doesn't make sense to me. He was probably looking for the right moment to reach him and was eating Gaethje's punches to catch that moment but he didn't and then he slightly paniced cause he wasn't able to win in fashion.

Nothing much interesting is going on in UFC octagon, but outside big news about Dustin Poirier and his arrested in Georgia for public drunkenness  Grin
I didnt know this is illegal in state of Georgia, but he can face up to a year in jail and pay the fine.
Dustin retired from MMA last year and it is not easy for everyone to adjust for new life situation.

I had to double-check if it's not April 1st today.
The UFC made a big announcement of replacing their traditional rankings, which were created by a media panel, to AI powered rankings, which they launched in cooperation with Meta.
The official announcement:
https://www.ufc.com/news/ufc-and-meta-unveil-meta-ufc-rankings

The link to rankings is still the same: https://www.ufc.com/rankings

What do I see after clicking it? Well, some major changes it seems. Some examples:

What's interesting. I got different champions even when opening the same link in a slightly different time:

Whoever approved this change should be fed to pigs. Although this has some comedy value to it.

I think you got we-are-in-process-of-updating version Cheesy Because when I have checked ranking, they looked same as they were, but only meta/media ranking switch appeared. Only difference is that in meta there are pound-for-pound rating, but in media it is not there.

It's like he's on a suicide mission or something...  A death wish.

Not sure if this is a suicide mission, but definitely a tough fight for both Cheesy Correct me, but Fiziev only recently got kicked form top15, Torres if #13, so they should be pretty close by skill more or less.

I think they've fixed it already, but there were some fighters I'd never seen before, much less in first place. Maybe the AI was still refining everything. But for me, it doesn't change that much; however this ranking is done, there will be complaints.

I understand that you are a die hard fan of Ilia Topuria, but think again, if it were a masterpiece, he wouldn't have gassed out completely. So no, it wasn't a masterpiece by Ilia Topuria in the second round, though he managed to dominate in that round, he blew himself out completely.

Ilia Topuria failed to adapt and did not even manage to understand the game plan when Justin Gaethje was targeting his right hand with kicks rather than going for his usual low kicks. If you compare him to legends like Jon Jones, Demetrious Johnson, GSP or Khabib, they would change their style mid fight and come up with a response on the fly and win the fight, we can call that masterpiece, but unfortunately not this.

Since you watched this fight 100 times, you can go back and look at all of Ilia Topuria's past fights. He did not change anything in this fight against Justin Gaethje. He just walked forward, looking for his opponent to strike, so he could wait for a counter. Justin Gaethje simply did not play that game, and Ilia Topuria had no answer and quit on his stool.

It was a masterful performance by Justin Gaethje and a brilliant game plan by Trevor Wittman, the striking and head coach of Justin Gaethje.
