Hi all,
Newbie here although been lurking for a long time and no stranger to the Crypto world!!!!
I play around with the markets and do ok, nothing big just play money really as I'm genuinely interested in the whole crypto scene. However it seems the scene is increasingly becomming full of morons who only have good things to say about the coins they hold and are quick to spread FUD about any coin they don't.
I'm wise enough to know many people do this influence the markets to their favour, but is it me or is it getting a bit boring with all these Twitter and Facebook groups pumping and dumpling? Surely to much of this behaviour is going to damage the stability of crypto currency as a whole, and it would be a real shame.
For this reason trading has become less fun and harder to keep up and I think I'm going to turn my attention to only serious coins with serious devs and communities and thunk more about the long term.
So my question to the community here is not what the next big coin will be, but whicy coins do you see as being real players for Tue long term? Not the coins you're holding, merely who you think can really take crypto currency forward as Pioneer coins, coins that have the ability to be widely used and accepted? Would love to hear your thoughts and reasoning on this!

check out black coin great community, you no longer can mine the coin itself, but they are setting up a multi pool so it mines other coins and buys bc for you. meaning the price can only go up

I can give you an indicator. Look at Payment Systems, Exchanges with small amount of Cryptos, Multicoin wallets, Coins that come regularly in the news. - https://www.litepaid.com/: BTC/LTC/DOGE/QRK/NMC/PPC/NVC/PTS - http://bongocoin.com/: BTC/LTC/DOGE/QRK/NMC/PPC/VTC/XPM/FTC/NVC/TRC/ - https://pock.io/: BTC/LTC/PPC/QRK/DOGE/VTC/MAX/WDC - https://moolah.io/: BTC/LTC/DOGE...Considering QRK - https://www.vaultofsatoshi.com/: BTC/LTC/PPC/DOGE/QRK/FTC/XPM - https://coinclutch.com/: BTC/LTC/PPC/DOGE/QRK/FTC/XPM - http://mucowa.com/: BTC/LTC/DOGE/QRK/FTC/CGA/DGC - https://btc-e.com/: BTC/LTC/NMC/PPC/FTC/NVC/TRC/XPM Then look at their community and infrastructure: Top communities are BTC/LTC/DOGE/PPC/QRK/VTC Then you could look at their features: BTC/LTC/PPC/NMC/QRK/ all brought something new to the table and were the first to raise awareness. So i personally would go for BTC/LTC/DOGE/QRK/PPC/NMC/VTC because these are the most innovative with legit communities and mentioned alot. Don't listen to the trolls and don't wander away too much from the main Cryptos if you are looking for the most established once.

Really good question, to answer this you would need some reliable information about what coins are actually being used right now as a currency. In the lang haul a crypto currency can only survive if people actually hold them because they know they can buy real goods and services with them for the same price or cheaper then with FIAT.
As far as I know the only one that comes close to being a currency right now is bitcoin, but even bitcoin has got a long way to go to really become a currency that you can directly exchange for all the stuff you need in life. But to me it looks like it is getting there as big online retailers have started to accept bitcoin now.
I can't find any data to compare the success of cryptocurrencies in actual percentage of commercial transaction, so really I dont know, It is problematic that the fundamentals behind the crypto currencies are not know and people are just making guesses basically which one will succeed based on the opinion of peers, cool sounding names or memes etc.
Like here in this forum a lot of coins claim the coin is being used in commerce, some even set up webshops and some even set up illegal black market sites, but whether this is just an attempt to make it look like their currency is going somewhere in order to pump its value or the coin is really being used on some scale that counts is impossible for me to tell.

Check out CGA, new experiment in crypto currency using modulo calculations of block height and current difficulty to change block rewards. Prevents miners from dumping tons of coins during times of high demand. Could be quite a show if more people become interested.

These companies usually stay with the basics, you can see they all almost chose the same Cryptos. it would certainly help to follow their Crypto of choice. Coinclutch.com is a new one to me, seems like they are in Australia.

Yes agree.
top tier
ltc, qrk, ppc, doge, - look to big communities with hardcore support.
2nd tier Also look to very dedicated devlopers -
mec, dgc, cgb, adt, phs, hobo, these have devs that now constantly work and improve their coins or bring out features, new protection ect.
other coins can have good returns, but are higher risk.... (not that all crypto doesn't have rather high risk in some ways)

I think in a few years, the top three coins will be Bitcoin (BTC), Goldcoin (GLD), and Litecoin (LTC). (in that order) Bitcoin and litecoin get the nod because they were early pioneers and managed early market penetration. Goldcoin because it has a developer not unlike Satoshi. He keeps to himself and spends his days quietly rewriting and improving upon the early work of Satoshi. His first achievement was to solve the 51% attack riddle and integrate a solution into the GLD client. Now he is secretly writing a new java client that will be the first of its kind in the crypto world. It will be modular, plugin ready, multi-threaded, and multi-platform. The other reason I like Goldcoin is because the name tests #1 with consumers. Try this on someone that knows nothing about bitcoin: Give a brief explanation of what a cryptocurrency is and then ask the person which one they would rather own - offer three or four coin names along with Goldcoin. What you will find is that no matter which coins you put up against Goldcoin, the average consumer will 100% of the time pick Goldcoin. So, here we have a coin with a brilliant and unique developer, plus the best name, trading at one cent. If you look up the meaning of the phrase "no brainer" there should be a photo of the Goldcoin logo on that dictionary page.

DigitalCoin is definitely focused on the long term. We're already almost a year old. See https://CryptoAve.Com for the dedicated exchange built by me.

If you want to invest in 'the long term' you have to realize that you really can't.
There's still too much volatility in crypto to tell if any coin will make it long term. I'd stick to BTC and maybe LTC, those are the only ones I'd say have a better than average chance of being worth anything in 2 years time if nothing disastrous happens to them. Tha'ts not to say there won't be other coins that make it, just that it will be really difficult to predict winners and losers at this stage.
Case in point, three months ago I would have told you DOGE coin was a waste of time and money, but someone in this thread is saying it is one of the 'main' coins with a community that makes it a coin worth investing in, and I can't really disagree. At the same time, I would have told you World coin was probably a better investment than most with the strong services and known developers. See how that turned out?

At this point I am not even sure of Litecoin's benefits. Fast confirmations, different mining algo and that's it?

GLD, you mean the coin that overnight cut the blocksize down to a 1/10th so all the early adopters were sitting pretty? No thanks. Aint touching that with a 40 meter TP-cable. QRK, wasn't that all premined, most of it? DGC, SRC, yeah good coins I would agree on that. Esp. now with the new exchange and all.
