Meh, tvplus just was answering a noob's question and parroted what the OP had answered to another user. I think the intent was to be useful rather than upping their post count for financial gain.

Could be, but it's also not uncommon for plagiarists to try to stay on topic by copying something from earlier in the thread.

Having said that, I don't mind them getting a soft ban, just don't want to start the whole done-it-only-once-was-young-and-stupid excuse bingo Smiley

Do you run a bot or something that helps you find plagiarised posts? You are always the one to find them and very quick. Share your secrets sempai.

All the more reason for this user to be given a temporary posting ban and a signature ban for 2 years. Recently they have become a net positive for the forum and I don't think we should banish this user to the dog house forever.
I'm not really in support for the ban for users who are above Hero+ and have 1 or maximum 2 posts copy-pasted. Like in terms of signature gains, how much they would have made copying the two posts? If the posts are from 2017 and less then they should be given another chance instead of a perma-ban. It's sad to see a legendary member getting banned for copying one post in 2016.

Unfortunately, Hero+ accounts sell for a premium, so people can get in good sig campaigns and sling their sig all over the place. Also, I'm not sure that we can expect a moderator to sift through an account's post history to see what the extent of the plagiarism truly is. I suspect that tvplus may have other copy paste posts, since suchmoon exposed that he was prone to copy/paste a quick answer. Also, I believe suchmoon revealed that with the tools that she uses, searching through a post history is much more difficult than just going through a shitty megathread and finding hits.

As long as the new ban bot is concerned that is the one which is responsible for the current bans, I think a small modification in the code should satisfy that condition. Like the bot creator can check if the copied posts are written in 2017 or less and the count of copy-pasted posts is > 2.

If it happens to be one that I reported - it's fairly easy for me to find it. Other than that, it's not so simple. bones261 already gave you the link re: bot, but as far as...

the count of copy-pasted posts is > 2.

.. that's almost impossible to determine. You'd have to scan the whole post history and even then - if you don't find plagiarism it doesn't mean there wasn't any. All that effort for trying to justify one ban. As opposed to scanning the same number of posts in a shitcoin thread and banning the whole farm.

I think with the options that global mods currently have (temp/sig bans) it's not so much of an issue anymore.

I would say, that it is not that case: there is no «plagiarism» mistake in situation when someone helps another one person in bounty (!!!) topic. If it would be a regular problem for him, then it could be so, but one time for 1803 posts copied answer of bounty manager to answer another user is not plagiarism at all. If we ask for more attributive quoting, well, it could be mistake of not enough attribution. Mistake, but not a crime, not a plagiarism. All — my IMHO.

Unfortunately, we have caught bumping bots that just recycle the same questions and answers using various alt account to make it appear like different participants. When caught, the account that gave the answer could just state "they were being helpful."

Better now? Smiley
NO, it has been discussed on other thread. As I mentioned there it might happen by mistake or due to lazy behaviour.

I know of one case where someone was banned for plagiarism in the recent massacre, but a very careful reading of the context showed that the person actually did just forget to quote, and by "quoting" the post they were expressing an actual point even if it constituted their entire post. This person was unbanned without any sigban, since this isn't plagiarism.

It is very clear that OP was just tried to help someone else. That's the reason why I am much curious to know why OP got banned. If only reason that mentioned by suchmoon then OP likely deserve unban without conditions according to admin.

Yes, they can. Don't it look exactely like they are doing it just to add number of posts to their activity? Isn't it systematic in their case? If everyone can see the difference between the situations, why should we penalise a good one person just not to give an opportunity to use that example for bad ones, when there is nearly nothing in common? Occasional mistake in attribution in quoting is not the same as systematic copypasting to get activity.

Damn, thanks for that link. Kinda explains everything that was needed.

Or a very good JavaScript developer who knows how to use the ES6 style syntax eloquently. There could be a few places where spread operator could do wonders but regardless, they write better code than most of the JS-based extenstions related to bitcointalk I've seen.

Moderators replied on almost all of ban appeal thread and reply the reason of ban. But wondering why moderators are silent on "tvplus006" case. At least we could see the plagiarism post that OP got ban for. We can't judge before know the mistakes. So we want to know what was the post/mistake ?
I don't know what it's for as there's no handled reports in the queue but I'm guessing it was probably for plagiarism.

In the message @theymos states that every plagiarism report is manually checked by the moderators:

All plagiarism bans are human-checked.

@hilariousandco , kindly clarify, if there are no processed reports, who checked my “plagiarism” and based on what my penalty is permanent ban?

I have been banned for over a month and, thus, cannot proceed with doing useful work for the forum, by revealing scams.

When making a final decision on my case, please take into consideration my attempts of fighting spam: 500 reports were sent to the moderator, only 9 of which were not accurate. And also my contribution to scams fight among ICO on our forum.
I am asking to unblock my account without any terms.

Why is this scam buster and net positive user permabanned?

Someone who spends their free time to help people who are new in this space and people who fail to spot scamz.

Plagiarist and scumbag does not get ban for plagiarism but tvplus is permabanned.

Why "second chance rule" doesn't apply here?

I'm not certain why tvpuls006 hasn't been granted at least a temp ban either. Definitely a net positive for the forum. Let's hope a global mod can bestow mercy on this poor soul. Tvplus006 has earned over 400 merits. Definitely not your run of the mill shit poster.

It's just not question about second chances. Still we had not got appropriate answer why OP got ban. If OP is a plagiarist then question will come for second chance.

Hope someone from moderators/admin will answer here what is the exact reason for OP ban issue.

Many respected forum users support this appeal and express positive opinions about tvplus006. I don't understand one thing, but we haven't seen the exact answer yet. I think that for more trust and transparency in the system of bans on the forum global moderators find time to consider tvplus006's appeal and announce the exact reasons for the ban.

A permaban for this is excessive.

I argue that the admin that banned tvplus006 should reconsider their decision, and revert the ban.

Let's not make Bitcointalk such a vindictive society that people can't even make a single mistake without worrying about being cast out.
