South Africa vs Afghanistan underway. Nabi got one pretty quickly in the initial overs itself. If the proteas post a total over 250, I feel that the Afghans are in trouble though they are capable of chasing down big totals.

On the other hand, if RSA posts a total below 250, advantage Afghanistan who are potentially the dark horse of this particular tournament.

South Africa got a good start today. Scoring 83 run in 15 overs is a very nice start when you know that they have lost only a single wicket. Ryan Rickelton has made 50 on 48 balls and is still batting. Temba Bavuma is also supporting him and seems like South Africa will make a total beyond 300. If they doesn’t lose many wickets till 30 overs, we can even expect 350 runs too. Afghanistan bowlers yet to make an impact in this match.

The batting performance of the South African team had a very good start, but a win in this case is the biggest opportunity for the South African team. The Africa team showed a lot of intelligence throughout the innings. They tried to win the match very comfortably. Especially their batting performance was amazing. They kept the wickets and gave away an innings of 315 runs. On the other hand, Afghanistan was a good team, but they were under a lot of pressure from the start. The openers of the Afghan team did not start well. On the one hand, they lost wickets, on the other hand, they created a big difference in balls and runs. Due to which they were eliminated from the match long ago. The Afghan team seemed to be as strong as it was against South Africa, but they could not maintain that strong position. Intent was there from AFG openers, but they looked clueless against SA bowling for the most part. There is some Aggression which is good for entertainment purposes. Overall, I feel match is slipping away from AFG with each over passing.

What I found more interesting here that when I just say when they were at one wicket lose, and they were under pressure by the south African bowler and they will try to take some big score and that just happened after few over they lose their wickets quickly and we also saw their fall down.

To be honest this match result was guaranteed before the started and that just happened and also in this B group Afghanistan team was the weakest team and I think they will take the lower rank in this group at championship tropy

Many of the fans assumed that even if the Afghan team performed well in T20s, it would be difficult to trust them in ODI cricket.

Yeah, ODI cricket is different from T20 format like ODI needs the proper composure of test's patience along with T20's aggressiveness. I do see some teams are trying to play ODI in T20 way like trying to set 350 or 400 target in every match but failing to post even 250; England's recent performance in ODI is a good example to back up my claim. If you try to bet on ODI matches by considering a team's track record and performance in T20, then no once could save your bankroll.

You need to remember that all good teams like top 8 from the ODI ranking entered to play this champion trophy hence all the matches in this tournament are between two good teams. It means, you cannot easily predict a result to bet with.

The ranking methodology for ODI looks flawed for me. That said, no one would argue that most of the participants are quite strong. The only weak team IMO is Bangladesh. Sri Lanka and West Indies failed to qualify along with the tier-2 test nations (Ireland and Zimbabwe) and this actually improved the quality of the competition. Now we have the Champions Trophy, the ICC should expand the number of participants in the ODI World Cup. It will be good to have 16 participants in the World Cup.

But South Africa had such a good team as Ryan Rickelton had a partnership with Temba Bavuma who scored 58 runs and Ryan Rickelton 103 runs, this partnership helped them a lot and also Rassie van der Dussenn  & Aiden Markram put a good effort in the game for South Africa. Eventually they set 315 runs as the target for the Afghanistan team. I was expecting too well with Rashid Khan, but he did not play well. He gave 59 runs in his 10 over spell and didn't get a wicket

ICC must have a debate on whether ODI format is necessary now a days in presence of T20 format which s widely accepted both by players and spectators.

T20 may be lucrative but it's hurting ODIs and Tests for emerging teams like Afghanistan. They're forced to prioritize T20 leagues over national duty, resulting in a decline in their longer formats. ICC needs to address this imbalance and find a way to make ODIs and Tests appealing to players again.

Honestly most of cricket expert and journalist were named Afghanistan for semifinalist contender, and I taught afghan will really catch thier opponent, because south African wasn't looking in true colors and we have seen thier recent performance against Pakistan in ODI series and some tri series performance too, but Afghanistan really played awful cricket and deliver things beyond our expectations and once again showed thier entire batting performance were dependent on gurbaz and Ibrahim, if both of these failed to done some handsome work then things will become more worse for his team just like we have seen today. Anyway it's look like their is no place for Afghanistan in semifinals.

Afghanistan doesn't have a stable squad, and similar to West Indies their players give more preference to franchise T20 cricket when compared to national duty. And one of the reasons for the poor team bonding is that they hardly ever play at home. Home matches are mostly played either at the United Arab Emirates or India. Yesterday the Afghan batsmen crumbled against South African quicks. Rahmat Shah scored 90, and that was the only individual score that was above 20.

Afghanistan is a very strong team in T20s, so Afghanistan has a record of defeating many strong teams in T20s. Afghanistan's performance in ODI and Test formats is relatively better than in T20 format, but not as good as in T20. That's why they suffered a miserable 107-run defeat in the match yesterday, chasing a target of 316 runs set by South Africa.

This match was lost by the Afghanistan team, only because of poor batting performance but could not put any pressure on the South African team from the bowling side.  But Rashid Khan could not collect any wicket in this match which is a failure for him.  If he could have kept the wickets down, the South African team would have been under pressure and the runs would have been reduced, thus contributing to the Afghanistan team's victory.
 But Afghanistan team would not have lost this match by such a margin, I am able to determine the difference of this match because if not for this mistake, Afghanistan team could have won.

South Africa made use of good lessons of their defeats in the recent tri-series, while in this game they were right at the top from early overs and never allow Afghanistan bowlers to be settled their batting were on aggression from start and things gone favorable for them in all match. All spinners were below their quality and South African were well-prepared which is surely one of the best thing happen to them in this game even now two big challenges are still waiting for them but with this level of performance they have good chance of going into top four.

South Africa have good bowling while their spinners are also using good local conditions which are usually helpful for the spinners 315 runs were huge target for Afghanistan which fail to have anything possible for reaching near this target due to crap batting and selection of shots.
