Pretty ironic that this is coming from a guy who considers himself to be such an astute champion of free speech. He could just move on, but instead he would rather post about how unfair the rules are in his Meta LiveJournal.

It's quite amusing how he thought that his post about him being not concerned is on topic but my post isn't. That is, unless he reported his own post too but forgot to list that fact in his REEE thread.

To be fair though, I wouldn't have been shocked if a bunch of those memes ended up deleted but such action would inevitably include his "no u" meme and that would cause another whinestorm. I don't think a viable strategy exists for mods to handle TECSHARE's complaints to his satisfaction.

That is clearly false. We have had posts of our own deleted from our own threads. (wrongly in our own case ). Sometimes as a direct response to questions or accusations that are left there that are clearly more off topic.

However, of course you can go off topic in your own thread if they hold you to the rules as theymos has explained them. Every post should be relevant directly to the OP at least in some part of your post if not the majority of it.

So yes you can certainly be off topic in your own thread if they want to claim you are.

I would say the only context you can not be off topic at all if is they allow your thread to be derailed even after you report the offending posts and you just go with the new permitted flow the mods are permitting even after you complain.  Then to moderate it would be clear moderator abuse.

I would say in most cases the thread starter should be allowed some free reign but to let it go to extremes would of course waste other contributors effort and time addressing the original point if you were to then just veer off on a totally unrelated tangent.

Permitted flow is complex and needs to really be thrashed out and detailed guidelines brought in.

The mods really (although sometimes taking the piss imho) are left to guess what is and what is not permitted flow, so really there will be some variance in decisions taken. We do have some small sympathy for getting moderation 100% spot on because that is at this time impossible.

Sorry Nutilduhhh, but you can in fact be off topic in your own threads. Just because you started it doesn't mean you now dictate the rules. You are still required to maintain the discussion on the topic of the OP.

As far as Suchgoon, my reply was a direct reply about the previous comment, reaffirming that I made a logical argument including sources, which is very much on topic. Your little circle jerk snipe fest directed at me was not. Also as predicted Flying Hellfish would near instantly delete these types of comments if directed toward his left leaning friends, but since it is me they perpetually remain "unhandled".

Everyone gets two votes, as it may very well be a combination of factors. For example, I think that George Soros teamed up with the Lizard People to punish Trump for not bending to their One Government / New World Order agenda. I added "Donald Trump" as a joke option at the end, because as we all know, he's probably the most perfect president America has ever had. And definitely the best.

I think the main rationale and reasoning for allowing accounts to be sold is because allowing them lets others know that the practice can and does go on and banning them may give people a false sense of security, not to mention banning their sale will not stop the behaviour from happening and only push it further underground and into obscurity.

This forum also doesn't moderate or ban scammers, but that doesn't mean we allow or encourage them nor do we profit from it in any way from it.

Still, you are impersonating somebody unless you disclaim that you bought their account, which never happens. So buying accounts is a 100% dishonest manuver. Its never been used for an honest purpose because pretending to be somebody you are not is lying.

I dunno, while I appreciate your explanation, it still just seems that you are sticking up for criminals at the end of the day. I really don't understand how you guys can live with yourselves knowing how many crimes are committed here on a daily basis. The entire forum isn't against me, just a small group of very vocal people such as yourself who make a habit of obsessively following me around and commenting on everything I do and say. Technically there are no official rules here period, so you could literally make that argument about any "rule" here, because there are no official rules or terms of service posted anywhere on the forum. That is my point. The rules are applied selectively, and some people are held to the letter of the unwritten law, and some people (like you) get endless excuses made for why there should be an exception made for their malfeasance because you polish the balls of anyone with any ability to do anything about it.
