This rematch is just a formality that the time of Andy Ruiz holding the belt is over. I can't see a chance that he would win the rematch as Joshua will be more careful this time and he need not to slug it out with Ruiz, just score points and he will win the fight.

That's likely what he is going to do because he knows Ruiz has a short reach and move slowly, he cannot slug it out with Ruiz, because Ruiz is strong has fast hands, the worst thing that he'll do is to slug it out with Ruiz, if he can do that he can win by decision, but he is a challenger and a challenger should bring the fight to the champion and not the other way around.

Its not surprising that Anthony Joshua is ahead of Andy Ruiz even when Andy Ruiz won the last fight. Many are still thinking he just got lucky on the last fight but I watched it over and over again, Andy Ruiz can stand toe to toe, it just happened the Anthony Joshua got rocked and Andy Ruiz followed up.

Odds from Nitrogensports
Anthony Joshua -308
Andy Ruiz +244

Great odds for Andy Ruiz and I think that would not change because despite AJ lose in the past fight, people still think he can come back and beat this fat guy, actually I think the looks and built of Andy Ruiz is what people are looking and he got disrespected on that.

The line now is what people's perception on the coming fight, so it's obvious that people believes the Andy Ruiz was just lucky in the last fight.
I was among those that believed Andy Ruiz was during his first fight with Anthony but it all happens because of Anthony and his camp ignorance and underrating Ruiz because of his shape.
If you watch the videos posted by Anthony on his social account, you'll understand that he's doing every possible to amend his previous mistakes.

I think Joshua will try to slug it out with Ruiz but he will be more careful this time. Last fight his left hand is down in the early rounds that's why Ruiz is hitting him 1-2 before he will move. So that's one adjustment that Joshua will do in this rematch. He needs to take it to Ruiz and should let his hands go more and be active if he wanted to win by decision and be the aggressor.

Joshua already feel how strong Ruiz is, he doesn't need to fight toe to toe, he just have to play smart as the advantage is already in him.
The height, the length, and the speed, he all has that in him, it's just left to him on how he manage himself to win this fight, it doesn't need to be convincing, he just need to win this rematch in any way.

he was lucky if he caught Joshua and knock him out in one punch we can call that one-punch wonder, just like what happened in the Douglas Tyson fight, but he was outboxed and out punch and he cannot take the punch that he needs to save himself and give up, of course he can go back and had a chance to win but Ruiz is one big puncher also and he can take Joshua's punch.
Joshua knew it already that he was no match to Ruiz if he wants to fight him face to face since the Ruiz was a big guy he might have a hard time to break him. It is better for Joshua play smart rather than forcing it with his own physical strength, if Joshua could outsmart Ruiz then may the odds favor him.

Indeed, all that matters for Joshua now is a win, convincing or not it does not matter.

He got all the attributes of a heavyweight boxer, the size and speed are all in Joshua, i think he just need to prepare for his one mentally and forget that one time in his career that he was beaten by this guy.

For it to be convincing he needs to totally dominate Ruiz, remember he is now the challenger, he must take the fight to the champion and be the aggressor here, he cannot just do a hit and run stuff, he has no luxury to do that now, now that he is the challenger.

Joshua Vows Not To Make Mistake of "Rushing" The KO of Ruiz

Quote
Anthony Joshua insists he will not make the same "little mistake" against Andy Ruiz Jr a second time around after a lack of patience cost him his heavyweight titles.

Ruiz stunned the boxing world back in June when he stopped overwhelming favourite Joshua at Madison Square Garden in New York, in the process securing the IBF, WBA, IBO and WBO belts.

I wouldn't call that a little mistakes though, he really underestimate Ruiz Jr and that his first mistake. He had dropped opponents before, but he immediately take them out in the next couple of rounds. But with Ruiz Jr though, it's very different. Although Andy was down in the 3rd, he quickly got up, it's more of a flush knock down that's why he was able to recover very quick and put Joshua down in the same round and it's over for him in the 7th.

I wouldn't call it a little mistake either because a lot of his fan like myself actually lost some fund when he also lost his championship title but it good to know that he has realized his mistake and ready to do every possible to get back what Ruiz took from him. Besides, I really respect Anthony level of understanding and discipline.

Agreed. Also, some of the people might have forgotten the first fight to predict that it would be another easy fight for Andy Ruiz hehehe. It was not a dominant performance and he was also knocked down for the first time in his career.

Right. That's why not just for Joshua, but all fighters shouldn't underestimate their opponents because once they do, they could really lose like the one we have seen in the first fight. No one has given Andy Ruiz a chance, majority thought that this is an easy fight for Joshua. But Ruiz put him in the canvass and he wasn't the same fighter after the third round. But this time, based on interviews, Ruiz is oozing with confidence that can backfire on him. Joshua did understand what went wrong with him in the first fight and knowing his ring IQ and discipline, he won't allow the same thing happen again in this rematch.

Joshua admits he was distracted before boxing Ruiz by constant talk of what was a highly anticipated showdown with Wilder. The former champion answered countless questions during the buildup toward the Ruiz fight about previous Wilder negotiations, why Wilder turned down a four-fight, $120 million contract offer from DAZN and what it would take for them to finally fight.

So it looks like Joshua learn from his mistakes during the first fight. He admitted that he was thinking ahead of the Wilder clash and the huge money in the table. But first, he needs to get that belt back from Ruiz and he should win convincingly so that he will be in the discussions with Fury, Wilder.

It was really an eye opener for him, he shouldn't underestimate someone and overlook them and think that you can win easily and go on the next big money fights on the line.

He looks very thin and light on that picture though, maybe he wanted to be quick, however, he may loss some punching power here and his chin might not hold up again if Ruiz could hit him up with hooks.

This isnt only applied on Boxing but in all sorts of sports. Its never been good to look down on someone specially to your opponent because
you wouldnt know if there would be some lucky punch would able to hit you.Even you do know your capability is much better than the other
side but these circumstances would really turn the table upsidedown. On the upcoming fight im pretty sure that Joshua will reclaim that belt.

Maybe Anthony Joshua was over confident that he can just blow away Andy Ruiz. And another factor I've seen for his lost though is that Ruiz is not his original opponent, it's Jarrell Miller. So he might not be pump or psyched for Andy Ruiz prior to the fight that's why his mind is not on this guy but the next fighter in line (Wilder). Anyway, there are no excuses, it's time for Joshua to get back in track and he is still the favourite to win despite the "infamous" upset.

Quote

He should be, that's a multi-million dollar mistake he committed. His showdown with Fury or Wilder is derailed due to that lost and it's a money fight i supposed. This time around he should neglect talks about a fight with other belt holders and focus on this fight and show some respect to Ruiz as well. Overconfidence just killed him the last time around.

Yeah, I totally agree. Just when you are just one step of that $100 million supposedly money on the table, everything went to 0 because of the disaster of Ruiz derailing that mega fight. As far as I can remember, Wilder is asking for $10 m or something around that fight to happen in 2017-2018. But since their is more hype, more money is offered. But I don't know if they would get $100 m offer again to fight because that lost really dampen Joshua's career whether he win against Ruiz on the rematch.

Joshua thinking of Wilder while facing another man inside the ring? Well, it could be true but, for me, this was an alibi. Is that how easy focus could be taken away from a star as Anthony Joshua II? It's a big deal, yeah. That's a hundred million dollars, after all. But he knows more than anyone that he has to conquer the beast in front of him first.

That $100 million offer could come back but only after convincingly proving to the entire boxing world that the boxer fighting against Ruiz in their first match was not the real Joshua. Now, that is going to be very hard to prove. Only a convincing KO would do that. Joshua has yet to prove that he could come back in a fight. One thing he must learn from Ruiz in their last fight is exactly that. Ruiz was the first man who was floored in that fight, and yet he went on a very successful come-from-behind TKO win against him.

I agree that he needs to knock the hell out of Ruiz in this rematch before we can discuss about $xxx millions for his fight with Wilder. Every fighter has an excuses when they lost, out of focus, has prior injuries not reported, family problems, etc.

Ruiz was knock down first, but the guy has a tremendous recovery, even Tyson Fury was able to get up with the Wilder knock down and every one thought that is was over. But those two guys has the heart of a champion to fight that adversary and have recovered very quickly. But in the case of Joshua, he doesn't have that tool that's why you can see in his eyes that he is done after the first knock down. Let's see if Joshua will have the mentality to face Ruiz again after that devastating lost.

It's gonna get ugly in the next months, of course if AJ beats Ruiz in the rematch. Anthony, Deontay, Tyson - all of them hungry, all of them having something to prove to others and themselves. The biggest boxing market is really growing and glowing. With us expecting the best of it!
