Atletico Madrid didn't look like they would be a trophy contender this season, and it was surprising to see them start the season with a defeat. Before the match, Atletico were the favorites, I didn't expect them to lose, and and it seems many bettors suffered defeat in the match.
Despite dominating possession, Atletico failed to create many threatening chances. For Espanyol, the win was a huge coup, they marked the new season by beating one of the elite teams in La Liga.

The truth is that Atletico Madrid is not tired of struggling to finish in the 3rd or 4th position in every new season, it's obvious they are not ready to win any trophy this season because it they are thn I doubt they will fail to take the advantage they had in this game today to score more goals when they were all in charge of the match in possession and attempts. Atletico Madrid and Chelsea made bettors to lose money today because all hopes were high on them but I think for Chelsea side, Crystal Palace is a big team but Espanyol beating defeating ATM is a big loss for everyone.

Actually it is still too early to exclude Atletico Madrid from the champion candidates. It is just the first match, there are 37 matches remaining. However, I agree it was very surprising to see the defeat of Atletico Madrid. Espanyol is just a mediocre team, they even just joined La Liga in the last season. So, Atletico Madrid should have a higher chance to win although it was in Espanyol home. But I see that Atletico Madrid didn't use all their top players in the starting lineup. Griezmann, Koke, Sorloth, and Raspadori was in the bench. Simeone seems a bit underestimated Espanyol by placing some second tier players in the starting lineup.

Well, I agree that it was a big achievement for Espanyol. Defeating one of the champion candidates in the first match is a very difficult thing. However, they prove that it isn't impossible in today match.

In the match between Espanyol and Athletico Madrid, Atletico Madrid managed to score a goal before half-time. Julian Alvarez scored the goal in the 37th minute. Atletico Madrid had 62% possession while Espanyol had 38%.

Espanyol staged a magnificent comeback. Julian Alvarez's stunning free kick put Atletico Madrid ahead 0-1.
From that moment on, I thought Atletico would win the match very easily, but Espanyol dominated the second half.
In the 73rd minute, the score was 1-1. I still thought Atletico would win, but in the 84th minute, Milla's stunning header put Espanyol ahead 2-1.
Espanyol won the match 2-1 with this goal and started La Liga with three points.
I think this score was the surprise of the night.

It's not right to judge the entire league based on the results of one match. There are 37 more matches to play, and the league standings will be determined based on these matches. Atletico Madrid may have started the season poorly, but they are the ones who can fix it. I'm sure Simeone will take action in the coming weeks. Athletic Bilbao, on the other hand, nearly dropped points in a match they were ahead in. Barcelona is one of the teams that has played flawlessly so far. Also, from what I've seen, Getafe played well and won the match. The Atletico Madrid match was a big surprise for me; I didn't expect them to lose.

Winning by 3 goals is definitely a good result. Mallorca got two red cards so Barcelona won. Barcelona secured a 2-0 lead in just 23 minutes. Mallorca got their first red card in the 33rd minute. So even if Mallorca didn't get two red cards, Barcelona would have easily won this match.

I think scoring three goals is a good result. The most important thing is that Barcelona didn't concede a goal in the match and secured three points in the first leg. Mallorca were quite unfortunate to have begun their first game of the season this way, it was a pity how they had to play with nine men against a team they can't actually stand up against even with 11 men on equals. On other hand, With how early those two red cards came I had thought that Barcelona were going to score a lot of goals considering the deficit in Mallorca squad but it seems they just wanted to conserve their energy on goals for their next game.

Mallorca was never considered a strong team anyway, and with the hard games out of the way, they can focus on the real task now, which is to beat the teams at their level. If they can do that, then they would be capable of actually living a better life. I know that this is going to be a tough deal because even teams that are as equally good as them (or even worse) is not a guaranteed win, meaning they will lose some of those games too.

But when you are Mallorca, who already has a lot better teams, then your whole aim should be focusing on how to get better than the teams you are close, and win those games. They will not finish in top four or anything anyways, even UEFA competitions might be an issue for them, so just focusing on not going down and they should be fine.

Sevilla used to be a very strong team in la liga some years back and competed with the likes of other average teams in the league and most of time gave serious headaches to top teams like real madrid, barca, atletico madrid etc. but just few seasons ago they dropped from competing and now they found themselves in the second half of the table almost even going on relegation. I just hope they play better this season because coming from a two goal down and making it 2, 2 before the home side scored again might mean that sevilla will pick up this season

Athletic Bilbao are no longer strong as before, their defending line are weak, the opponents always able to score.

Atletico played so aggressive in the first half. They often pressed their opponent. However, a disaster come after Simeone subbed off many of key players in the first half. He subbed off Gallagher, Cardozo, Alvarez, Baena, and Almada. Those guys were contributed a lot in the first half.
It's sad those players effort meant nothing because it's get killed by Simeone's subs. He's experimenting with the new players in the second half. In result his team conceded two goals by Espanyol. I hope he learns from his mistake.

In the first week of La Liga we were treated to a surprise, Atletico Madrid suffered a narrow defeat to hosts Espanyol.
