Since there are 2 existing issues as of now about bitcoin payment gateways which are;
So what's the best Bitcoin payment gateway now and tell me why it's the best one?

  • bitpay
  • btcpay
  • coingate
  • opennode
  • shopify

This thread might help people to choose what platform they will use.

For me, it's BTCpay since it's free and open-source with LN payment method.  Cheesy

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

From the perspective of a Bitcoiner it's definitely BTCPay. In this case you have control over every aspect of each transaction that comes in. You also don't have to worry about centralized payment gateways to suddenly change their terms and lock your funds until you provide them every detail they are asking for.

From the perspective of a merchant that is not aware of what Bitcoin is about and just want to add an extra payment option to their checkout page without hassle, a centralized payment gateway is the most logical option. Merchants also have no clue about the politics game that BitPay plays. They pop up at the very top everywhere these bastards.

There is also a centralized payment gateway called CoinGate, which supports LN too. To not be harassed by US regulators they do not provide any services to the US. CoinGate on its own made sure +4000 merchants now accept LN payments, which is pretty cool.

I think most of us can agree that BTCPay is one of the best options right now. BitPay has got to be the worst. Oh so you're going to pay on your computer? Nope. You gotta use your phone or you're going to need to convert the QR code to an address through some tool. And don't get me started with the KYC.

A few more reasons to not use BitPay:

I don't think that two could argue about whether btcpayserver is the best solution here because it clearly is.

We should understand though, that these centralized payment processors are simply businesses trying to make money and survive with the laws and regulations. It must be the community responsibility to spread awareness regarding btcpay and also propose it for merchants but that could be hard because as said above, most of the services out there are just looking to accept bitcoin as an additional payment method to have more gains and not to hold it or invest in it, and in this scenario, centralized solutions are considered better because they facilitate the process of converting btc to fiat.

Thank you for that very informative statement Sir.

I think it was the banning of country which had been my problem since Day 1 of researching of how to get in and out.
This information should really be pinned since there may be a lot of people out there who still doesnt have this kind of knowledge.

Specially merchants. Imagine them being stopped by KYC's and a lot more information before they can even make withdrawals or send a huge amount of money.
Been there and it gave me some hard time and almost all my info is leaked just because of it.

I have never used them, in fact I have never come across to a merchant who BTCpay. Quoting it for reference.

I do not like any of them above but used BitPay and I do not like them at all. You require to have their own wallet and also they restricted some county which is not why Bitcoin invented.

By the way, did you forget coinpayments.net? I thought that's also a payment processor?

Are you looking to keep the coins or convert to fiat?
What is your average purchase amount?
Do you want to host it yourself or have someone else deal with it?

There is also https://www.coinpayments.net/

All have their good and bad points. But there is no one size fits all.

It's like asking what is the best car?
For what? Hauling your family around? Best gas mileage? Best handling?

Yes, banning countries is very sad.
I check listing and see.. Algeria, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Cambodia, Ecuador, Egypt, Germany, Indonesia, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Nepal, and Vietnam.
How they choose it?

Because most of these countries (or maybe all) you mentioned are not crypto-friendly, I mean it's illegal to do a crypto-related thing on that country.

I haven't come across large scale transactions through different payment gateways. Through articles came to know about bitpay having increased service being provided through it. In specific they have got a team which also helps with making the transaction with all legal processes fulfilled. Upon the same I find bitpay to be the best.

Still, there are many people who voted for bitpay even it's not a user-friendly platform now.

Noted, I'm not very familiar with that payment gateway. I'm only familiar with those gateways who has been used and tested by many people.

Not now, I've come through lot of articles earlier. One being the purchase of a home with bitcoin. Here bitpay has helped with all the legal processes, and the user who bought the house profited big as the price of bitcoin grow between the days of confirming the value of the property and the day of settlement. This helped him own a Lamborghini with the excess amount.

It must be related to the wordpress plugin making it easy for bitpay to be by merchants. For someone who just want to sell something on their wordpress site, bitpay plugin must be the one suggested by the fellow website admins. Same goes for the coinpayments.  Purchase below $3k doesn't need KYC which excludes these small time merchants from submitting documents.

So what's the best Bitcoin payment gateway now and tell me why it's the best one?
The definition of the word "best" varies from person to person. For example, traders prefer to use Bitpay because the main purpose is to make profits.
Bitcoin can be accepted as a payment system as long as there is a way to avoid volatility. Bitpay is an ideal alternative for these people as the profits are deposited into your account.

Quote
Receive funds directly to your bank account with zero price volatility or risk.

If you believe in Bitcoin, you must accept payment it directly and decentralized, so the best solution is BTCPay.

Though it may not be sexually attractive to admit it, if I were running a business it would have to be Bitpay.

I wouldn't want to fuck around with my own exchange accounts on top of BTCpay. I want one agreement that results in fiat winding up in my account no matter what. I would not want any grey areas.

If I were manufacturing and selling my own stuff with high margins then I would go BTCPay and keep most of the BTC, but that's not how most businesses work. The money you're taking in has most likely already been spent and needs recouping before it flies out the door immediately again.

It's easy to get idealistic about it. That don't pay the bills.

What I do find strange is how little competition there still is for this area. That says something about Bitcoin as a payment method.

So BitPay is taking BTC from the clients but paying his clients (Merchants) in fiat?

For example: I have service with namecheap and I use Bitcoin to pay them. If BitPay is operating like I said in the first line then namecheap is not actually receiving any Bitcoin but they are receiving fiat from BitPay?

Correct. It's basically an exchange.

That's the only reason bitpay is still tolerated. They have the banking where hardly anyone else does. Coinbase is the most obvious competitor but they seem to have wound down a bit and have implemented changes that have turned off potential users.

The best way is to accept bitcoin directly and cut out all the middlemen.  This is was the whole purpose of bitcoin in the first place.  Don't let middlemen leech off your business without providing any real value to you.
