Is this a case of reduced merit sources but with bigger amounts of sMerits vs what they had in the past?
That would be my guess. Then again, I don't like guessing so let's check the data:

Just under 7 years ago:
Code:
There are 131 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 21045 sMerit per 30 days
That's 160.65 on average.

Now:
There are 86 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 31022 sMerit per 30 days
That's 360.72 on average.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was ThemePen, who was caught abusing the merit system, and also cheated in the pizza contest with multiple accounts.

You can visit JollyGood's topic, for more information about ThemePen's account farm.
How big is the "CryptoYar" account farm?

Edit:
I just noticed theymos has merited JollyGood's topic. Now I'm 100% sure it was ThemePen.

I am getting lost in this round of accusations.
Let me try to recap: a merit source was supposedly orchestrating a series of alt accounts, and he even applied to be a merit source with one of those alts?
I don’t know anything about what happened, but the fact theymos stripped his MS title is enough for me.

Thanks for the update in this thread.

How about a merit source reported many weeks ago, not removed as a merit source yet?

Likely theymos missed that case as I believe if he knew about it and felt convincing about that case, he would remove both of them at the same time.

I find your lack of faith in BTC disturbing.

Check the date when a drop in the number of MS was recently noticed :

Not sure how long this has been the case, but there has been a stark reduction from the latest observations (109, to 88 and now down to 86).

Check the date of the last login for the profile you are referring to.
Draw your own conclusions Smiley.

Not sure what's coming next after a signature ban
I'm still thinking about ways to resolve this issue, possibly involving rejiggering how merit works.
