In general, I would not want to risk my money by investing them in new projects.  Perhaps I have not yet learned how to determine the prospects of a particular project, but indeed since the time of 2016, most ico companies have not been implemented and many teams have disappeared from sight.  Many projects do not support their communities with project development announcements.  This makes us think that most new projects have no future and are a waste of time and money.  Based on this, I prefer to invest only in proven cryptocurrencies, which are in the top ranking of the cryptocurrency market.

Often times I read various posts of people/traders/investors preaching HODLing some altcoins for years and so on thus I took some to research on altcoins 3years and guess what? Most of the altcoins in 2016 are no more to found anymore. You can take a deep look as well via https://coinmarketcap.com/historical/20160103/

My candid advise is to trade with the five senses intact and not with emotions. Don't get on some shitcoins with the intention to hold for years else you might get rekt.
You meant to say' holding bad altcoins can get anybody rekt?'the fact is we have many good altcoins and many more bad projects with dangerous aims, it takes lots of lessons to identify good coins that deserve to be hodl for long term and that lesson is sometimes learning the hard way

This year I learnt how emotion took over most of our decisions in crypto trade when we should be strategic, most old members were beneficiary of every run because of the experience. Things happen so fast and we couldnt cash up with it. First, was the bitcoin baby run, early IEO profits on big volume exchange, turn over from some exchange coin, now is the baby run of some altcoin. At least some bitcoin will be take from ETH run in recent days. They are so quick and slippery. The most important season is the bitcoin run coming soon and we need to make good profit from it

Things are now quite different from what they used to be in the early days of crypto. Coins at that time cane from more serious developers. Developers who are ready to offer their best and not for selfish gains. The reason moist coins go into extinction these days is greed, not really on the part of investors or traders, but more on the part of developers.

It's way too simplistic to say 'Don't hold altcoins or you'll get Rekt'.

Sure, many coins from 2016 are no more, or at such low prices they basically are worthless. Yet some are now worth a fortune. It's also easy to warn against altcoins during a bear market.

In 2017/18, just about every alt went up, some to insane amounts. Nobody during the bullrun would have said, 'Don't you wish you dumped your alts you bought way back in 2015?'

Thing is, nobody knows what will happen. I don't expect true shitcoins to go crazy again, but I also wouldn't generalize and act like decent alts won't eventually be profitable.

Thats how the market works and only the fittest would survive and to those coins who are just being supported because of the hype will eventually fail.
On the link given it was nice to see that current top altcoins are way too cheap specially with Bitcoin and if those times been considered for you to accumulate
even just on ETH or XMR then you would able to get tons of profits on 3 years time on simply holding. This is just a matter of risk management though yet it isnt really that bad to try to hold but be sure that the one you do hold is something different from others or simply does have real life usage or relevance that can be considered to last for long term.
Differentiating them is quite hard but once you got it then expect for such pay off.

If you're planning on holding lower-marketcap coins and/or coins with a less active userbase, I'd highly suggest setting a point for yourself where you sell off your coins before you even purchase whatever coins you plan on buying. Most alts come and go like the wind, though most of the top 10 or so alts have at least stayed somewhat relevant over the last few years. I hold BTC more or less indefinitely, though with the increased risk of holding lower alts I'd suggest setting a sort of stoploss as I mentioned earlier due to the risk involved.

If you hold some random altcoin that is new to the market, then yeah, there is a high chance you will get "rekt" that is make a huge loss. Altcoin market is very unstable and the price of altcoin is really volatile. The risk is even higher when you are investing on new altcoins. You may see the price of the altcoin momentarily skyrocketing but then after you invest, the price may start dropping very badly. This happens mostly because the devs or early investors starts to dump that coin because they know that the coin has no potential.
If you want to invest on altcoins, stick with the coins that are active in the market.

Wow. Now this is a scary reality about altcoins. I have mentioned it before. Most of the altcoins that were making waves in 2017 will cease to exist by the next bull run. Many coins that were raised through ICOs will be gone by then.

Holding is not actually the issue, moreover those who held ETH and BTC last year to this year made good profits, I think the issue here is the type of coin you are holding; who are the team? what is it solving? Is there an already developed product which is currently working and constantly updated? These and many more are to be considered before one ventures into holding, if not taken into consideration then the person gambling with his funds. Furthermore, another problem is that most people instead of doing their own research prefers to believe whatsoever some groups (or experts) says about a coin. Like I stated earlier, holding is never the issue but what prompted the person into holding; there is no doubt, many will cease to exist but there are some which will continue to wax stronger.

The cryptocurrency market is receiving a lot of new altcoins add every day. Many of these altcoins were creat for different purposes, but mostly for profit. The trader will gradually abandon altcoins with no potential and discarded by exchanges, so the platform leading to that Altcoins will be dug. There are many Altcoins created in 2016 that still thrive and are stable.

I hold altcoins but priority first it should be bitcoin. I've seen this kind of advice before on youtube and the perfect thing to do is to hold and buy bitcoin first before exploring with altcoins.
And once you are done and you think that you have an acceptable amount of bitcoin it's now time for you to explore a bit with small amount into altcoins. I have invested in alts but it's only for altcoin and other known top alts, I'm aware that with the fate of those top altcoins before, this can also happen to my alts now but I don't worry at all because I have bitcoin.

This isn't entirely true. A lot of people have become stinkingly rich hodlings altcoins. What would you say of someone who bought Binance in 2017 when it was around $0.10 (lets say 1,or those who bought ETH, Litecoin or Monero at that early stage? Of course, they are definitely profitable now. So, it's not a generalization that hodling altcoins isn't profitable. It depends what altcoins one is hodling.

I completely agree with you. There are coins that are really worth keeping for a very long time. Here you just need to understand your strategies and well choose projects for this. You can fail with better projects, but it's less likely.

Choosing the right coin is very important but we cannot assure that the coin we hold will give us profit in the long run.
We gamble on its future because we see its potential, we could lose or profit, that's why I suggest that we should not only focus in a small number of coins as although these coins we are holding now are popular and has a high potential based on its status today, it could be a different story in the future.

Holding an undervalued coin now will likely gonna give us a great profit and we might be able to sell it in a shorter period of time.

I like to focus on top coins in the coinmarketcap. Because the top coins have a huge potential to reach the market when Bitcoin get stable. There are a lot of coins in the coinmarketcap. But you need to choose good coins with own research.

Doing your research might not be effective these days mate, we must observe the best coins not just on research but for its community. Many social media groups that could help us like telegram and twitter. Always join the community through informations that will help us choose the right one.

Holding Altcoins can't get you Rekt but yes holding shitcoins can get you rekt. I trade some coins in 2017 and after 2018 there is no sign for them at all. I think holding altcoin is great, it's give you huge profit if you choose right one. Before hold coin it's a mandatory thing that you check that project properly. Otherwise you can get rekt.

And that is a wrong idea about holding altcoins or cryptocurrencies in general because what I know of is that depending on the period of time we want to hold a coin, we may get rekt or profit. Let's say if you bought ether at 500$ and when it went to 80$ and you sold, you may be rekt in that sense. How about those who bought at 80$ and are holding till now? Are they getting rekt? And the answer is a big NO because of the time they enter the market and how long they want to hold the coins. So in my opinion, holding does not always get you rekt.

Holding coins for a long period is good if there is a profit we get, but now there are many altcoins and it is difficult to predict whether I will hold this coin for a long time or not, for the altcoin that I currently hold, I get from trading bonuses from a new exchange and I think the right time to sell and new information is really needed if you become a holder.

There are too many altcoins in the system and that is the reason why choosing the good ones usually becomes a challenge for investors. So to play it safe, invest in projects with real working product so that it can serve as a backbone for the coin and maintain its value

Yes even some that are still existing, most won't be found in years to come. Most projects lack utility, developers give up half way, some others are pure scam looking for a good exit strategy. Trading what one can is the best to do.

Its not advisable to hold a coins that are not popular because it might turn to shitcoins.

That's why its important to do a research on what coins to invest in, not all coins can manage to recover even the market condition is getting better.

Altcoins are profitable to hold but dont just invest in random coins make sure to choose the well-established.
