Did you remember how big bitcoin gets a big impact caused by the demand of ICO. The big trend has been coming from altcoin when ICO has become a big trend in a few years ago. altcoin has brought a big demand for bitcoin especially to use it as a way to raise the funds. The fact that all or almost altcoins can covert to BTC, then bitcoin can really stand alone. It can use in transferring and doing transactions also. Though it's uses will not be fully discovered without those alts, since where we can compare it if no other cryptocurrencies created,there will be no crypto trading about to happen since we can't trade it to real stocks or forex. I don't see any reason why bitcoin can't survive alone? You don't need altcoins for bitcoins to survive. As long as people buys and holds bitcoin it will survive. Even though if people can't use it as a form of currency, they can always use it as a store of value.
Sometimes your altcoins won't be giving you much profit like that of bitcoin. So it is better to let go of your altcoin and jump into bitcoin.

I don't see any reason why bitcoin can't survive alone? You don't need altcoins for bitcoins to survive. As long as people buys and holds bitcoin it will survive. Even though if people can't use it as a form of currency, they can always use it as a store of value.
Sometimes your altcoins won't be giving you much profit like that of bitcoin. So it is better to let go of your altcoin and jump into bitcoin.

but you must remember that bitcoin also requires an exchange rate such as USDT or altcoin to still have a sale value. although bitcoin survives on its own if there is no measure of the price that becomes the exchange rate of bitcoin then it is possible that bitcoin will not have a value up to now.

I am one of those who believes that altcoins have future if there's not, developers will not think of creating new coins or tokens in the market, there are some issues on Bitcoin that they want to complement, or try to solve, Ethereum's smart contract is highly supported by the community, because it offers different  option from what Bitcoin is offering, there's still a lot of coins coming in the market, and so we have a wide options to pick, this is because this technology keeps on evolving.

You're right! Bitcoin alone cannot survive on its own. I can give a comparative example. You find a source for example oil and in order to start producing it, then store it, transport it, process it, all this needs an infrastructure. In our case, the ecosystem.
