curious that such relative minutiae would make it in
I'd be surprised if any other sub-units of any other currencies appears in the OED, this sort of thing is more phenomenological than literary, and so would have belonged in new encyclopedias until the internet killed that model

nice , the dictionary keeps the entries forever , unlike the online version Oxford's Online Dictionary the latter has already included all of the words like bitcoin , cryptocurrency plus blockchain and miner : https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/blockchain for example p.s. if you are interested in how Oxford's dictionary was created, watch The Professor and the Madman movie

The popularity and awareness about this issue is constantly increasing. Satoshi's validity for a language like English is a great improvement. The world is now learning Bitcoin and Satoshi, and it is officially registered.

I cannot avoid comparing Oxford English Dictionary to some narrow-minded countries, I mean their leaders. Here is a dictionary which is open-minded about new words that come out alongside the development of the times. It seems lexicographers are earlier to acknowledge the rise of cryptocurrency than leaders to admit that there is such a thing as Bitcoin and crypto which is used and supported by their very people. By the way, cryptocurrency is already accepted by Oxford Dictionary, but when I made this post the words cryptocurrency and its shorter version crypto are still underlined with squiggly red.

Yes its very late but its better late than never. Having satoshi placed on Oxford Dictionary is one big accomplishment for bitcoin community. If we are going to explain bitcoin and someone asks us what is satoshi and what is bitcoin does it appear in the dictionary then we can simply reply check your dictionary. I do hope the wikipedia will add satoshi in their online dictionary since what they have is bitcoin, satoshi nakamoto but not satoshi.

I was moved by this news. I didn't imagine that even Satoshi could go this far and would be recognized even by the Oxford dictionary. At least people who are clueless about Bitcoin and its history would have brief information about it through dictionaries. It will surely bring a huge impact especially for those who are curious about it.

Satoshi in Oxford English dictionary is good news for the cryptocurrency community. By the way I am personally very surprised to read this news, it seems I do not believe bitcoin is increasingly recognized by the world. Seeing that bitcoin is increasingly widely known, it is increasingly emphasized that bitcoin will make a new history in the world of technology.I, as a bitcoin believer, are very confident that this news makes a small step towards the glory of bitcoin, where in the future can be legal right in all countries. I can't wait for that moment to happen.

It's not really that late but the timing is just right and it's about time, this is the time when people are asking and will ask what and who is Satoshi and Oxford English Dictionary has to realize that, they should update their database, in the near future some of the common words in the community, will be included like HODL, there will be a lot of words coined in Cryptocurrency that will be included in Oxford English Dictionary.

It is nice to add this word, I don't know if wrong terms like HODLING have been added, but it seems possible especially after the inclusion of cryptocurrency. Maybe we'll see a section for cryptocurrencies terms soon. I hope that it is limited to BTC and does not extend to many of the reforms related to some SCAM cryptocurrencies.

Which wikipedia you're using? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin#Unitshttps://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Satoshi_(unit) That will make people who don't know can learn that word from dictionary. Simple and yes that is will give some impact in the future, maybe for our child who don't know cryptocurrency is exist.
If you know about crypto, the chance your kids know about crypto is higher. Oh, btw, I don't think you'll see Oxford as a mainstream book that everybody read.
That aside, I'm seeing cryptotalk everywhere.

This is another achievement for bitcoin, though it will not make a huge impact in my opinion since there are only few people who loves to read and use dictionary these days, we always use google nowadays. It would be more effective if big social medias like Facebook, twitter, and youtube will pop an advertisement of bitcoin on everyone's news feed and videos in facebook, every videos in youtube, and tweets in twitter, for free (too good to be true, for now)

Maybe later they will add Mbtc on the dictionary and encyclopedia sometime soon it is sure in the Urban Dictionary for quite some time now but giving it a place on Dictionary surely is a big thing for cryptocurrency and Bitcoin, Although I guess there are not many people that are using the Dictionary now and just using Google instead because of its fast and responsive answer, We can surely say that a google is now a dictionary in this sense I guess the popularity of Bitcoin will not have enough impact even if Satoshi's name would be on the Dictionary.

Indeed, it still an improvement that we need to be proud of! well since bitcoin is getting adopted and accepted by different countries, I know that there are some people wondering about anything about bitcoin particularly to its developer at least now they can easily search for it. They can easily have an idea about bitcoin like newbies who wants to explore bitcoins history and even for students who's currently studying economics, as far as I know there is a certain part where they have to explain digital currency like bitcoin and its history. Good to know that they can just use dictionary which is the most common app you can find on their mobile phones.

It feels very great to know this to be honest, it makes the word satoshi feels more standard I would say, now if anybody would ask what is satoshi, you can easily say look it up on the dictionary, very impressive to see how far btc have come.

Hodling hasn't been added yet. maybe in the next five years. It took satoshi a long time, the other crypto terms that we know now could take decades for OED to list them all

I think this is an important thing for Bitcoin to increase its recognition among people all over the world. Because we all use dictionaries to search for some information that we need. Also, Oxford English Dictionary is one of the most used dictionaries in the world.

I'm glad that they're starting to recognise cryptocurrency related words more. I don't care if it's late as long as it's there. Just like what the quote says, better late than never. We need a little more time and I'm sure crypto related words would increase in the Oxford dictionary. I see it as an achievement of crypto.

Just remember, when you mean the coins you don't use capital letter at the beginning of the word. If you say Bitcoin, you mean the whole thing, technology, network, etc, while bitcoin is the coin only. Same thing happens to satoshi, but in this case Satoshi is a person, while satoshi is a coin.
Unfortunately if the word is the first one starting a paragraph (such as this thread tittle), it always use the capital letter leading to confusion.
So the news is actually that satoshi, rather than Satoshi, got into the dictionary.
To avoid this confusion, OP should rephrase the thread title. Something like:
Word satoshi in Oxford English Dictionary
If you want to refer to the coin, which is the case here. Oh and notice how the dictionary entry correctly used small capitalization: "a satoshi", NOT a Satoshi.
