I'm a person who would like to do some work for Bitcoin, so I monitor freelancing sites occasionally, and at this time I feel like the freelance market in Bitcoin is nearly dead. The Services board is 99% listings of services rather than people who are looking to buy some; XBTfreelancer is empty or has 1-2 projects most of the time; cryptogrind has mostly just ridiculously underpaid projects or again service announcements (shouldn't they be banned there?), and there's also not much available projects overall; workingforbitcoins has very little traffic, just a few projects per month.

It was theorized that Bitcoin will help alleviate poverty by allowing people to work online without any restrictions, but on practice this just isn't happening. In your opinion, what is the reason for this?

The industry has moved from a more open style to a much more professional style, previously during the ICO boom period, people often hired people in the service board or other sites.

Nowadays, these get rich schemes have died down and are no longer popular and it's become a real life job market with much more regulations - most people will just recruitment agencies and other platforms to hire now.

It's good for the industry, means we are starting to see crypto-based buisnesses be taken a lot more seriously, but it's bad for the community.

That is one of the chain-effect of the 2018 bear market. Some of the individuals or companies didn't able to withstand the wrath of it. And aside from that, even there is a so-called "project", maybe others aren't interested anymore to test the waters at those freelance works that pay in crypto.

Back during the hype of 2017, lots of projects just popped out of nowhere due to the fact that it's quite easy to set up a project as regulations aren't that strict.

But don't stop, if someone has a special talent, just continue offering services at any platform. However, consider thinking about other alternatives as we all know that any crypto-related works aren't bound to lasts forever.

That's a false premise right from the start.  Bitcoin won't help alleviate poverty any more than a fiat currency would do.  It's money, not salvation sent from the heavens.

Your best bet?  Join a signature campaign if you can.  You're a hero member registered in 2016 so I'm sure you're well aware of what I'm talking about.  Some of them pay as much as a regular job.  The services section hasn't been a job posting section in quite some time, if ever.  Rarely do I see anyone looking for work unless it's some worthless task paying pennies.  Unfortunately I don't know of any other website where you can find some job that pays in bitcoin.  This is it as far as I know.

Bear market killed everything when it comes to freelancing as I'm struggle as well in order to catch some extra work in weekends but there are few projects willing to pay the worker like they should or they offer their coin which is crazy when we see how many of ICO's and IEO's are failing. After this bear end for good I hope that more jobs opportunity will rise again and we can work again for extra income as for sure there will be a lot of demands for coders , networks , devs and so on.

It's rare, but it does still happen. It's hard to find though, there are many scammers but occasionally a new user with skills joins the forum.

There's no shortage of people with skills on the platforms that I've mentioned (unless we talk about highly specialized skills or very high quality demands), the problem is that there's not enough employers. It's harder to judge about this forum, since many things can go through pm's rather than public threads, but bidding is usually public on the platforms that I've mentioned, and you can see how barren they are right now.

I won't call Bitcoin freelancing as dead, rather it had suffered a major slowdown which could be attributed to the bearish market but overtime this industry will regain its composure and would be vibrant again - a normal cycle in crypto evolution.

there is demand from freelancers to be paid in bitcoin, but no supply. this could be because businesses are generally uninterested in adopting it. since there's an abundance of labor willing to work for more traditional forms of payment, there is no pressure on businesses to adopt it.

bitcoin is great for freelancers, especially for the unbanked in the context of internet-based work. but why should employers spend time and incur fees buying bitcoin---and risk the volatility---just for the benefit of those people?

to a lesser extent, there could also be a dynamic related to gresham's law happening. why pay out bitcoin when it's more rational to hoard them?

Maybe employers are much more likely to pay using fiat or altcoin instead?BTC has reached an astounding price so I'd suppose they'd rather hire professionals instead of free lancers. Most probably because we're now done with the development phase of projects and serviced and its now time for companies to do it professionally instead. It guarantees the quality of work after all.

Bitcoin is seldom used to pay for freelancing jobs nowadays because Bitcoin is getting more precious. Freelancing especially those that are supportive of crypto have now shifted to paying with their own tokens. There were already a number of crypto projects whose objective is to provide freelancers as well as employers an ecosystem where tasks are accomplished and are paid with their altcoins. Even these projects have since died.

In my opinion its not going to die, freelancing just slowed adoption due to bear market conditions. But before during the market was healthy the freelancing ecosystem was quiet healthy too and lot opportunities offered for job seekers. Nowadays it’s quiet rare but I’m confident that it will be back to normal once the market recover.

It's really a matter of concern that a lot of people don't get an opportunity as like as they got in the previous years, also it's true that this platform is becoming more professional in comparison to recent times. we saw that the service section was full of work announcement in 2017, 2018 but in this year, this rate has gone to below quantity, not only that but also ICO/IEO has been almost vanishing from this platform due to lack of investors, the current situation is also responsible to a lot of scam projects, people lost their money and faith in this platform so this has happened, but the work rate also has been lower than that time, I hope it will get back and the good time will come.

There are still active posts on https://www.reddit.com/r/Jobs4Bitcoins/ and they keep on coming. I haven't worked with any of them but there should be an escrow needed for each transaction or job you'll ever take there.

Until you build trust and confidence between yourself and the client. And as a freelancer, you will be the one to decide whether to continue it or not if there's something that you didn't like or isn't favor to your agreement.

Unfortunately bitcoin freelancing is not a popular thing to begin with, the freelancers and the demands for project usually centered on a conventional freelancing platform and rarely I see in a bitcoin freelancing site. Back in the day when it's still a relatively new thing the project there is not that much compared to any mainstream freelancing sites. That's why because of that more and more freelancers turning their face into mainstream freelancing platform because there's just more opportunity.

People investing on the current ICO's can't be considered as investors because they just rushing to invest when the see huge discounts but they never care about what they are about to invest and how this project could go in long term.Basically investors have to concentrate on long term goals or benefits to be more successful.

in my experience the bitcoin "economy" is always the most active and thriving when the price is on the rise inside a big bull market. for example in 2017 everything was a lot more active like freelancing sites,... and when price comes down and bear markets start like 2018 everything slows down.

there is also another problem with these sites like xbtfreelance that they lack advertisement so only a handful of people are aware of it and sometimes the quality of them are low which discourages people from participating and eventually the site loses its traffic.
