because altcoin still doesn't have potential. just look at the speculation about altcoin at this time to discuss more about whether altcoin can survive or not. there is nothing to discuss about the possibility of altcoin coins going up.
from here we can only conclude that many people are pessimistic about the rise in altcoin. so this is why even when bitcoin stabilizes altcoin only goes up a few percent.

well mate nothing is stable price including bitcoin you must know that don't be weak brother ,what altcoin do you mean? We all understand and the same when conditions are weakening but we must entrust all to the developer and continue to research all the projects we finance ,prices will change and improve someday so we must relax and be patient

Aside from no real life use, investors lose their interest on altcoins due to the fake projects and the price keep going down because of the bearish market, also they don't get a lot of attraction even if they have a big development but instead of complaining and getting disappointed, why not take this chance to fill up your bags while they are still cheap.

Bitcoin is the top dog on the market and is also the first cryptocurrency. All other coins depend on Bitcoins success in order to thrive. When Bitcoin falls, you can be sure that alt coins will fall right along with it.
   Until a true successor to Bitcoin appears, I believe things are going to stay this way. On a positive note, if Bitcoin rises, you can expect the alts to rise as well. Seasoned investors use this to their advatage.

Pardon me but Bitcoin made a lot of movement lately, you could see Bitcoin price went up from $7000 to $9000 in a few days and this is not stable at all.
Bitcoin fluctuated a lot this week, I see this as a reason why altcoin has not made any movement yet. We will see the action once Bitcoin move sideways but not right now, just wait a little bit we might see it in the near future.

the potential for each altcoin also varies when bitcoin prices go up, I think a lot of altcoins are affected too. although the increase is not as high as bitcoin, but it is worth noting. however, after 2017, the price of altcoin is falling bit by bit and it is difficult to experience a high increase (except for a few). You just need to find an altcoin that has that potential. like tron, qtum, and many other coins, you can check it on coinmarketcap by watching the price changes for 24 hours, and you will see the price of altcoin growing.

We cannot control the market if where the people would like to invest their hard earned money, if they wanted to invest in Bitcoin because it is trusted one and stable then we cannot force them. Altcoins has been very disappointing because of those scammers and because of the core team who doesn't care much about their investors.

My question exactly, tho I'm sure we'll never get an answer to it.  Op probably bought some awful coin ranked in the 1000's on coinmarketcap and it dropped to 1 sat after he did. 

Bitcoin isn't stable, by the way, and others have mentioned that fact already.  Alts generally follow what bitcon does, but not every coin and not all the time.  They're very unpredictable, but most of the time neither one is flat lined.  That's what makes the market so exciting, but you have to buy the *right* coins, not some cheap ones with no future.

You are absolutely right Bitcoin is in a very good position but all the other Altcoins are still on the lowest position and this situation is really bad for all investors specially for new investors.

There is an easy answer : nobody wants.
What affects prices: demand and supply and if the prices still do not change positively, then there is no demand. As it seems recently, there is demand just for BTC. 30-40% increase in price in a short time proves what I said.

The solution is pretty simple, why use something that is not good for you when there are other options for you to use, in short, why bother focusing on altcoins if you could focus on bitcoin only. We cannot expect a huge standards for altcoins to par with bitcoin, that is not going to work, they can imitate bitcoin's functionality but they can't duplicate its whole system, there is a secret on every things to remain unique, and Satoshi never expose them all.

Altcoin will not have the price of bitcoin because altcoin is mostly unclear, there is always a new future, there are also many dead ones, investors are now more focused on more stable coins, I myself don't believe altcoin is always a scamer that often happens then people will no longer migrate to altcoin.

  Alt-coins price is not a disappointment, just some people expected too much in the short period of time. I`m the one who invested in some
alt-coins in 2017, on their top, but you don`t see me crying about that.
   Alt-coins have a future, at least some of them! I`m not sure did I make a right choice with all of them, cause now I have many alt-coins
in my wallets. I don`t expect all of them to cost much more then they cost now, but I picked at least few good ones I will be happy.

altcoin price increases do not always depend on bitcoin price increases and vice versa, but I am curious about the altcoin that you are investing? it looks like you are very upset with the current altcoin price. try to stay calm let alone the market has started to improve including significant bitcoin prices. if you invest in altcoin i recommend with the top altcoin in markets like eth, eos or bnb. and if you like stable coins, maybe like usdc and usdt.

Altcoin's price isn't stable so we have to expect sudden changes all the time. It's important that we'll know all its risks so we'll never expect too much which could make us feel disappointed. It's hard to compare altcoins with the price of BTC because bitcoin has gained the trust of most investors and it has passed all the tests of time. It's reputable and has the greatest potential among any other cryptocurrencies.
