Update: I have removed wallet explorer. com because it got exposed as an anti-privacy blockexplorer
All explorers can be anti-privacy unless they are self-hosted, open source like mempool.space and btc-rpc-explorer, so maybe you should add those new categories for updated rating of explorers.
Running explorer on Tor is better than clearnet but Chainalysis and government agencies are also on Tor so you can't really hide there.

It is generally recommended to insert own addresses at Blockexplorers only via VPN.
Sure, this can confuse trackers, but VPN can leak and all your traffic is collected in one data center that can easily be located or end up in five, nice or fourteen eyes countries.

Update: I have removed wallet explorer. com because it got exposed as an anti-privacy blockexplorer

Hello 1miau, I updated the translated topic as well, thank you for this important update. My question is, though, if that article of CoinDesk can be taken as granted. Now I know that CoinDesk is - speaking at large - a name with reputation in this domain but, however, I would tend to take any news with a bit of salt to say so...
I don't know how reliable it is but Coindesk has claimed it has obtaine reliable data:

Quote
The documents, from an undated Chainalysis presentation to Italian police investigating the dark web, appeared late Monday on DarkLeaks, itself a dark web site only accessible through anonymizing browsers like Tor. CoinDesk has verified the documents’ authenticity.

The slide deck shines new light on the full range of tools that Chainalysis uses to assist law enforcement in nabbing illicit actors. The company is primarily known for parsing publicly available transaction data rather than using subterfuge.

But its honeypot works, according to the leaked slide deck. Chainalysis cited a June 2020 case in which walletexplorer.com nabbed a ransomware suspect’s IP address – hours after they were suspected of depositing funds through the over-the-counter (OTC) desk of crypto exchange Huobi.
https://www.coindesk.com/business/2021/09/21/leaked-slides-show-how-chainalysis-flags-crypto-suspects-for-cops/

Personally, I would avoid walletexplorer. com but I can't say for sure if Coindesk really has a 100% proof.

Chainalysis position has not been stated yet and, normally, they should have the right to express their voice as well. Maybe more clarification on this subject would come after their response...?
According to Coindesk, Chainalysys didn't reply:

Quote
A spokesperson for Chainalysis declined to comment.
https://www.coindesk.com/business/2021/09/21/leaked-slides-show-how-chainalysis-flags-crypto-suspects-for-cops/

It is generally recommended to insert own addresses at Blockexplorers only via VPN.

I totally agree with you here!

Later edit: at NeuroticFish's suggestion, maybe Wallet Explorer can still be maintained in the list, but next to the Bcash explorer and with a 0/10 rating...?
Yes, good idea, I have added it again:

Yup, I agree. This is why I suggested it would be... ethical, to say so, so see also their reaction. Of course, if they'll have any.

I quickly checked those that had "No" in front of them and found the following changes:

  • Bech32 support
    • BitcoinWhosWho
    • Insight
  • Identifiable P2SH format
    • SoChain

- SmartBit halted its operations "2 months ago".
- "Bitcoin.com (Owner: BCash)" redirects to "Blockchair.com", so we should probably just keep the latter one in the list!

Found another explorer:

This is very helpful, especially for novices. I just learned that different blockchains have different scans yesterday. It was my first attempt to transfer money on the blockchain instead of through a centralized exchange. There are so many things that novices need to learn.

Yes indeed, there is a good correlation as regards the answer to the poll.
I am so much in agreement with the first (Blockchair.com) having the highest vote, as its more
convenience for use and optimum positive outcome.

Added.
And yes, it seems to have a high chance of being a surveillance explorer.
Probably it's also generating revenue by reporting data.

What I mostly used is blockchair, blockchain.com and mempool. Those block explorers are quite easy to use and good UI. What I used many times between those three is blockchair. Mempool is good too where we can check the most used fee in each transactions. Anyway, there is no mempool to choose in the poll if someone wants to vote mempool.

Updated, many thanks for researching.  Smiley

Updated as well in the translated topic.

I've created a new category "removed" for inactive explorers, where we can keep moving inactive ones.

This update appears as well in the translation.

Added.

This one too.

Besides all these, as BitcoinWhosWho accepts now Bech32 addresses as well, I kindly ask you to change also the comment I initially added to this website:

from "Very efficient, including very interesting features; unfortunately, doesn't support Bech32 addresses yet"

to "Very efficient, including very interesting features; now it supports Bech32 addresses as well".

Later edit: 1miau, do you think that the poll from the OP should be updated as well, according to the explorers mentioned now in the topic?

Just finished checking the whole list and it appears that more than half of the current list [14 to be exact] already supports displaying Taproot addresses [P2TR], so perhaps we should consider including that feature in the list...
- We can just modify the second column slightly by dividing it into two parts (e.g. Bech32/m or Bech32/Bech32m).

Hi!

I've included your research in my table but do you know where it is possible in those explorers to see if a bech32 address is a "normal" bech32 address or a P2TR address?
Haven't followed Taproot much recently, unfortunately.  Cry

Hey 1miau and SFR, thank you for this important update as well. @1miau: I'd like to let you know that the update appears also in the translated topic, for which I pay great attention to always keep it up to date with any changes made within the original thread. As you can see yourself, all changes are already visible Smiley

Excepting that, I was also wondering if references to Taproot could be also added in this other topic written by 1miau - Why people should be using SegWit addresses, also translated in Romanian. I addressed this question as it was also raised inside Romanian board. I hope this helps.

well done to keep it updated  Smiley

Yes, we've talked about that in our PMs and since SqiurrelJulietGarden has already created a new topic about it, I'll skip this one but of course, I'll update my list of address types.
I'll update it as discussed via PM.  Smiley

  • Tokenview - Inaccessible.
  • Bitcoinchain - No longer being maintained [last block height shows 614926, while we're at 749576].
  • Blockexplorer.com - I don't think it has anything to do with Bitcoin +it's also outdated.
Noted, I'll create a new table called "outdated or inaccessible".

today i came across a Bitcoin explorer which is unknown to me and relatively very new and currently still in the beta phase
this explorer also supports the new taproot (bc1p...) addresses. the special feature of the explorer is also the use of a fully homomorphic encryption to guarantee the privacy of its own balance lookups.

I wrote about this Spiral explorer before and I like what they are doing, but today I noticed they added footer saying that code has not been formally audited, and they don't recommend using it for mission-critical applications.
I wouldn't recommend using it for general use until we see code review, adding more features and coming out from beta phase.
Maybe they plan to stay closed source since they are joining forces with ledger wallet  Tongue

Found a bunch of other explorers:
...
Finally added, sorry for the delay.

The following explorers should move out of the main list:

  • Blockexplorer.com - I don't think it has anything to do with Bitcoin +it's also outdated.
I've removed them, added a reason and linked your post here.

Many thanks again for your research.  Smiley

Interesting one, also added to the list including your description. Maybe you have some time later for a rating.
So far, it's only too look up a specific address, while tx hash / block number doesn't work. Empty addresses are also shown as "invalid".
Since we can only judge from a tx hash if an (sending) address is (nested) SegWit or Multisig, it wasn't possible for me to verify if it's a SegWit address or not. In your summary, you said "SegWit-Addresses (P2SH) identifyable?* - Yes". May I ask where you got it from?
Do you know if more than just addresses will be featured at some point?

i simply entered a segwit address (p2sh) in the search field and the spiral explorer was able to show me several transactions to that address. even if the website does not immediately show a result of the search query, it is best to press the search button several times and it looks like you can only search for Bitcoin addresses at the moment.
