If you did not even know the gamblers well, why you should care of what he is doing? He is gambling with his own money, you do not have any rights to tell him what to do with his money.
You may do it for your close friend only IMO.

Yeah, it happens to one of my friends, it's actually pride and greed playing at that moment,  it's hard to stop a guy who has the momentum to win it all or lose everything, your friend will just get irritated and might blame you, for his bad luck, you know there are this kind of guys, who goes on blaming game just to deny that it was is decision why he loses his money, just remind him but let him decide for himself.

That's risky for me because if the next bet is the winning bet, you are the one that will be blamed for that. If I am losing and betting to recover my money, I am going to bet high, and sometimes I recover it all and stop. What is the reason for recovering your losses if you had already set amount that you can afford, either win or lose? Chasing money in gambling to cover your losses is not a good idea. Actually it is a good thing to do. But people will not easily listen to you before they face their losses by themself. But me, will not do that thing because i think it is their own privacy. Either win or lose is their choice and before they gambling, they should already know what risk of doing it. When you are already on the verge of losing then im pretty sure that you would be most likely to be neglected into the person where you would tend to

To be frank, I have been in that situation before but the other party didn't take it lightly though, (whether friends or families), so what if it is a total stranger? Good thing is that in crypto, no really know the guy in personal life so probably you can do that. Kind of unusual to me to see on a gambler that shifted his focus on something riskier as you have mentioned you are already into gambling for long and you treat your sports betting experience as "major focus" meaning you should already know how to deal with the risks here and by now, you should have a good winning stats. First of all, that gambler has a purpose (how did you know that gambler is recovering the losses on that session?) and you shouldn't interrupt whatever he is trying to do. If you want to give that gambler a bit of advice, tell him after his session. That is the reality of doing gambling. I don't think it will be enough for a gambler to stop when they are actually addicted already. He'll only be thankful if he follows your advice but like what most have said here it's unlikely for your friend or probably anyone to take your advice when they're in the middle of their gambling sessions. They're more likely to listen to what you're saying once they're done gambling i've talked to a high roller once I don't know him but we had a good conversation after he was done playing.

It's practically impossible to convince somebody to stop while they're mid-way through losing their entire stack.

All you did was right, losing in the game is such a bad thing, especially when you are already losing so much of your money, there are a gamblers that keep on betting even they already lost a significant amount of their money because they are still hoping that they can back their money and that is bad in gambling, you can not even control yourself from wasting your money because of the gambling.

I haven't got the chance to experience that kind of situation, but I applaud what you did because even though you didn't know the person totally, you did what you need to do for that person so that he/she will not end up like your situation. Of coursse there gamblers are now not involve gambling to not continuously losing, for me its a good way to do  to prevent more loses and to get easily recover from it. Guess the first strategy to trying to exit so that you don't wager too much is to put only a small amount of balance in your wallet. That way, if you still want to play, you'd still have to take the time to transfer and wait for the funds to register, letting you have ample enough time to actually process the stupid move you're currently doing. This made me came to a conclusion that you're one of those irresponsible immature gamblers out there. No offense but if you're a guy who has his own family, you should be the one who is responsible on making money and budgeting it for your expenses, thankfully you always listen to your wife, but what is she's not there to warn you about your gambling addiction? for sure you're gonna end up starving every single day with your kids, that's the worst case scenario.

As for the topic itself, we live in a selfish world so not many people will bother to help strangers. So, it falls down to the person to be responsible or not. I think what he meant to say is that on most gambling platform, there are gamblers who'd like to mind their own business that don't like to engage on chat and there are gamblers who in the other hand gamble and chat at the same time.

I agree with you. Plus, this idea as a whole seems illogical to me - if a person is already playing, then he has made a decision and all responsibility is on him. If he is addicted, then none of your arguments can change his behavior - here he needs help from family + specialists.

but do we really think off that these people would really be using up for their gambling addiction problems? No the wont.

I think it may, but depends on who they are. If you are doing this to someone you know and love, you would definitely intervene and try to stop it because it would be the right thing to do, but if you do not know that person and try to stop them it would basically mean that you are calling for a problem on yourself. I would have acted the same even though you do really like to advise a particular gambler but it is really not our right to intervene knowing that its not our money that he had been spending

If that person is your friend or a family member then you have to try to help them even when you know this could cause a confrontation and that it may not work, we know that in order for people to overcome an addiction they need to have the desire and it needs to come from within them, if that desire is not present then it does not matter what you do you will be unable to help them, this means that sometimes the only thing you can do is to let them hit rock bottom and hope they finally understand that their lives cannot keep going in this direction.

You have to understand that most of these people that just obsessively gamble more and more and get even worse when they lose have serious addiction problem, and you can not just remove that addiction part from them by just talking alone and they could need serious help, in some minor cases when the person is just new to gambling and don't quite know the rules that's different, and you probably could help them to not go down the path of just gambling more whenever they get into a loss and learn to take a break when needed.

I had similar problems when starting out with gambling. Your approach of setting fixed limits on how much we can gamble is very good. Controlling our losses is the most important thing in. I opinion. It would be very nice if the people we give advice can listen to our words. From my experience, there are some gamblers who don't want to listen to advice from others (even those closest to them). What you are saying is completely right but at the same time it is not easy at all to see a friend or a family member destroying their lives and do nothing while they do so, I think it is a very common human reaction to try to stop them, and as you say in the majority of the cases they are not going to listen however there is going to be a minority of people that will wonder why their families or friends are trying to discourage them from this behaviour and that is when they are going to get that they are doing something wrong and correct their behaviour, it is a long shot but it is something worth doing.

I also experienced the same thing, whenever advising others regarding bad gambling habits, there was often quite a loud debate. And in the end
there were frequent quarrels, so since that incident I have stopped advising people about gambling well. In the end I only let people suffer losses
when playing gambling, because I believe that person can handle the problem on their own. Because if I try to stop other people from gambling,

Actually, the best option here would either take a snap of him gambling (and looking quite crazy) or let him take a peek at the amount he lost. Words aren't always enough to persuade someone, more so a person that's turned blind due to rage. It'd rather be helpful to actually present him with facts instead. My university friend is a very gambling person.  He loses his entire scholarship at slot machines. 

Before the game, he drinks half a bottle of brandy. 

Several times I tried to stop him.  I remember I asked him - "What do you need to sober up?"  He said - "To sober up - I need to drink a large mug of coffee."  I bought him a large mug of coffee and a cupcake. 

He drank coffee, ate a cupcake, but continued to remain in a state of alcoholic intoxication.  Moreover, he began to behave aggressively (which is not typical for him) and tried to start a fight with me. 

After this incident, I realized that it is impossible to rid the player of gambling addiction. 

And my friend lost his scholarship and started taking loans and credits so that he could keep playing.

I agree, just telling someone to stop will maybe make him stop for an hours or half day. But the losses are always on our head and we keep thinking about how to recover them. If we really want to help someone we need him to fully understand that he is facing the risk to lose even more money. To fully change the mindset a change of scenery could help. I think we can wait for a while until they can reduce their emotions after losing some money, especially if they lose big money. If we still talk to him or suggest something to him, I bet he will not listen to us and will leave us because he will think that we can not understand him. So while he reduces the tension after playing gambling, maybe we can ask him to go to someplace, drink fresh air, and talk about something that will not relate to gambling.

After that, we can slowly talk to him and give him the facts that already happen to him. I think that can help him understand his gambling position, and we need to convince him that it is no use to stay for a long time in gambling because fact, we already lose some money.
