-snip-

I was checking these members. Some of them were known and others are less but I noticed that Wangbus got a negative trust from nutildah on 2025-02-23 with this comment: "received $5.9 million in forum funds and failed to complete Epochtalk".
Since I am curious about the what was called new forums, although don't liking the idea in the first place, where can I find more information about what happened for that ex stuff and for the forum? Thanks.

I don't know about the negative trust feedback but I knew about the new forum software. It's a bit shocked that you don't know what is a new forum software, especially you can see it in the feedback, it's Epochtalk.

You are here even before me and I don't know why in many years, you did now know about Epochtalk.

Beta of new forum software now officially open.
No longer pursuing Epochtalk.

There are some information about mod payments years ago.
Question about forum finances.

Thanks for the reply. I was here for quite some time but my memory is not that well. Maybe it is related to the virus, the vaccine or maybe getting old is the cause. I assume many people are experiencing the same problem.
From what I remember, there was a sub here in meta like wiki. I don't find it anymore.
After reading theymos topic, I recall seeing it and I might connected there. I don't know why the search function didn't show me that topic in the first place.

Edit: found it (the sub) again. I have to see a neurologist seriously.

If you know any new appointed staff, please ping me in this thread.
How about nutildah? He's not an official staff member, but he was given the authority to enforce signature bans last month. Maybe he could be added as "mod-privileged"?

First, in the time since this thread was opened, I started receiving payment for sigban work. It feels weird not to mention it, but also weird to open a new thread just to say it, so I'm mentioning it here.

P.S. Mitchell has been listed twice in the OP (as both staff and global moderator)

Added with a note on his role and details about the signature ban issue, signature ban appeal procedure from nutildah's posts. Thanks for your reminder.

I copied, pasted, and edited information from Staff to Global moderator for Mitchell but forgot to delete that outdated part. Thanks again.

Mitchell has his patroller account too, if you don't know about it yet.

Wow, I just noticed you've been maintaining this list for almost 6 years. Its a privilege to be added to it. Even if I have an asterisk next to my name.

I'm just curious: do we know what "mod-privileged" means for the other mods in this category? I did a quick search of this thread but didn't find the answer.

Since you decide to add non-official member, how about also adding member who given white-list privilege?

I really don't know what you want, could you explain more, please.

Initially, mod-privileged category is for forum members who are neither admins, global moderators nor moderators but have privileges of doing some sort of moderation. With this Mod-privileged category description, it seems members with Whitelisting ability can be added to this category too.

Since you decide to add non-official member, how about also adding member who given white-list privilege?
As far as I know, there are only three forum members - LoyceV, hugeblack, Upgrade00 - who are not staffs but can do whitelisting, if I am not missing anyone who got that whitelisting ability recent years.

Adding them to this list, honestly I don't know but I listen to community opinion on this.

You missed SFR10 on this list. I know, because just this morning I received an email with all other whitelist-emails as CC. I ignore those requests by default.

Thanks.

SFR10 did not make any announcement thread about that, so it's almost no chance I can know about that, and it's why I missed his case.

I added him to the remove proxy ban list too.

So my one mod power is the sigban. Do we know what the single mod powers are for the other "mod privileged" accounts on the list? I was just curious if we knew what they were.

From an ex-staff who was removed because of inactivity.
There are also several users with mod privileges on wallet software's child-boards:

ThomasV, Andreas Schildbach, Mike Hearn, goatpig, and Rassah

But they aren't treated like regular Staff members.
Some mod powers of mod-privileged members are: managing newbies like deleting posts, nuking newbies for patrollers; things related to security of user accounts and account recovery like Cryptios' team; whitelisting like LoyceV, hugeblack, Upgrade00, SFR10; signature ban issuing like nutildah; some members in wallet software child board (I guess it is managing posts, threads); and perhaps if I am right suchmoon has kind of privileges too, not sure what power he got.

Q: Where can I find all the moderators/staff/administrators?
A: Just go to the Member search page (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=mlist;sa=search), untick all the boxes and then tick "Search by position". To find all regular moderators like board moderators, local moderators or patrollers (site-wide newbie moderators), search for "Staff" (without the quotation marks). To find all global moderators, search for "Global Moderator". To find all admins, search for "Administrator".

Patrollers: Are essentially Moderators but can only do moderator tasks for newbie members.

My other account is MindlessElectron, which has indeed patroller rights. It is used for the anti-spam bot.

Is a Good report worth more than a Bad report? Tongue

I imagine that taking action on a report (marking it as "good" or "bad") will be paid the same way. But my question is whether looking at a report and leaving it “unhandled” isn't paid. I guess if that were the case, it would encourage people not to leave them unhandled.

Obviously, it’s not something that keeps me up at night—it just came to mind since you guys were talking about it. I don’t know if a moderator will shed some light on this or if it’s something they’d rather not comment on. It’s just gossip, anyway.

is there a list of these staff superpowers? like what can and cannot be done by position?
Here's a summary from theymos:

"Moderators" moderate specific sections. They can delete posts there, edit them, move topics, split topics, lock topics, and sticky topics. "Global moderators" are the same as moderators, but they moderate all sections. All staff can also whitelist newbies and ban newbies. Administrators can do anything.

Any user can report a post. The report is send to the admins, global moderators, and any applicable section moderators. The recipients choose to act on the report or not.
Cryptios's main purpose is recovering accounts, but they can also do minor patroller-type things. They are neither admins nor global moderators. They have access to IP/security logs (not PMs), but each of their accesses to private info are logged and per-day-limited; even if their access was compromised, the damage would be limited.

And here's a quote from the Unofficial rules:

Q:What can <insert staff member name or rank here> do?
A: Different ranks have different access to moderation tools. A quote from Salty Spitoon explains it pretty well:

<...>

Admins: can do everything imaginable on the site. They however can't delete their accounts.

Global Moderators: can perma ban, nuke newbies, see and handle reports from all sections, and see reported PMs.

Moderators: can see and handle reports from their sections and nuke newbies

Patrollers: Are essentially Moderators but can only do moderator tasks for newbie members.

<...>

As per Mitchell, staff members can also change their display name at any time:

Mitchell is actually a moderator/patroller, and the mods are able to change their display name on their own. He wears a copper membership, so it is difficult for this to be obvious to some people if they aren’t paying close attention.
Correct, as a staff member I can indeed change my display name at any time, just like a Donator/VIP.

I did not about that post but I knew your previous or original username when I tried to look at this topic with its archive years ago through Wayback machine.

What you are able to change is your display name, not actually username. Only theymos (or perhaps Cyrus) can change username.

Each user has a display name, which is the only name ordinary users see, and a username, which is what you use to log-in with. Almost always, they are the same.

If I change a name for reasons of appearance, then I only change the display name. The username remains reserved, the user can still login using the username, PMs can still be sent to that username, "search member" allows searching for the old username, etc.

If I change a name for reasons of privacy, then I change both the username and the display name. In this case, it is possibly hazardous to reserve the old username, since it allows someone to test for the existence of that username, possibly defeating the privacy benefit. If you're worried about being impersonated, then simply don't seek to have your username changed.

I know. My original username is still "bitcoininformation", which was a website I used to host with information/graphs and a faucet. Promoting the faucet was the reason I joined Bitcointalk back in the day (13 years ago now).
