Yes! this is a known scam/hack since few years ago but because of the new batch of investors and users coming in and started using crypto, they aren't aware of this but it's good that you have posted this to remind them again.

The quote from the article that says:

“Even if you check part of the pasted Bitcoin address, chances are the first few characters are the same, and you still won’t notice the address was changed.”

Means that everyone should be vigilant and check the pasted address accordingly and just avoid downloading apps that you are not familiar with.

where there is every chance there is a crime, all these problems go back to ourselves how can I avoid cases of hacking like that, honestly I have never accessed my bitcoin wallet on my smartphone let alone use a special smartphone wallet, I also never used other people's computers let alone other people's laptops except your own personal computer and laptop

I feel sorry if anyone has lost their BTC because of their carelessness, if I were they maybe I would double check my wallet address if I wanted to transfer big money, if only small money I didn't check the wallet address again, I hope there are many lessons obtained from this case so that it does not happen again in the future

Those who have online accounts not just for crypto or bitcoin should always be aware of their accounts, emails, websites they visited. They must be able to learn how to secure themselves since it's a online space and many is just waiting for some users to be a victim. Don't be phished ,use 2FA and don't visit download links that came from random users.

Sometimes we create our own problem and it is the reason why up until now many of us are experiencing scam, there are a lot of scam issues these days that's why they should realize the things they need to do in order to avoid facing the same problem. We should be cautious on every decision that we are making because we don't know the true intention of others and the only way to protect ourselves is to check and have some research. I have read some of other people's experiences and I have learned something from it, it made me realize that we are capable on putting ourselves into hard situations. Particularly newbies, they tend to open the link inside the email from unknown source because they are pretty curious about it but little did they know that they are just putting themselves at risk? we should be attentive and learn from your own experience to make sure that your funds and assets are in a safe place.

I think securing a BTC , is actually more of a thing is using a good wallet ,
A good wallet means nothing that would be used online something that goes on the internet is more or so not so safe trust me on this .
We should understand that , the wallets like paper one's , the offline one's are very secure but before using anything read the reviews .
There is a trick I use ,
If am downloading a wallet , let's say ABC
I always type on Google

*ABC* wallet fraud /scam

If I don't find anything that's good with the plus reviews , but If I find even one thing , make a run for it .

There are so many issues like these. A malicious malware that automatically changes the bitcoin address. That clipper malware makes you feel it was the correct address because of the first four letter or numbers the same with the copied btc add.

Double checking the btc address is really significant when sending it to the other parties. We aren't aware that we have been downloading such malware when we are downloading in a non trusted apps and secured sites. The first thing to do is to take awareness within ourselves.

One way to double check that you d not have this Malware, is for you to fire up a word processor or Wordpad in Windows and then to Copy & Paste

your Bitcoin address to that first, before you Copy & Paste it into any wallet APP. Once you verified that the address pasted correctly, you can then

use it again to paste it into a wallet field. (Make sure to double check it again, before you click on the send button) Also, always check the entire

string of wallet address from beginning to the end.  Wink

Right, here are few discussions about this malware:

(1) affected by bitcoin Copy paste viruses
(2) Copy-Paste Virus For Bitcoin Users -- Beware!!!
(3) Virus change crypto address
(4) Don't get Hacked! Copy-Paste Virus!!

So it looks like this virus first appeared in 2017, but still up to this day, many are getting victimised. So obviously, you need to be very careful, if you have discovered that you have been affected by this malware, it's better to reformat your hard drive and start with a clean slate.

This kind of hacking was popular in 2016-2017, when there were still many mobile wallet users.
Maybe until now there is still but rarely exposed in the media because all are confused by the price panic.

This advice could have saved people from losing their money, but this is too logical, too easy and most people do not really think like that, they do not want to accept the responsibility of being their own bank, if you install a wallet you need to verify that no malicious software has been introduced it, if you want to send money you need to verify that the address and the amount that you are sending is correct, you need to verify that your fee is correct and you need to verify that eventually it gets confirmed and believe me very few people want to do that.

There are uncountable such hacks in crypto world and can be easily avoided by paying little more attention every time you made a transaction.
I always store my keys on plain paper not on computer, storing your keys on online/computer and accessing your coins from everywhere looks cool but you are giving opportunity to hackers.

Good links being provided which connects out with that Copypaste malware. This issue or kind of virus had already been known but there are really still people who arent
aware on its existence specially for those noobs out there which recently joined up on crypto space.

We can search up lots of info and we should really be aware into these kind of things if we dont like to lose up our precious coins.Always double check address when making transaction.

There is still people who are falling from this trick and not aware of the hacks. That's why it will be there decision if they will learn on how to avoid this kind of hacks and prevent to fall and download some apps which is tampered and has virus or wares on it.

And we all know that new hackers are coming and making new tech to scam and hack people and get their money easily without you knowing and so we need to take an action and prevent this hacks by securing our machines and not downloading apps that is not an official from the developers.

Every minute crypto community is growing and as sign of this then we who are already knowledgeable about this field must go on and have a better and good understanding about scammers and hackers who have a bad intention to our earnings and accounts, right? We should really avoid and be secured nowadays especially to those who are newbies here and we must really aware on different malware malfunctions so that we should be able to know what are happening in our bitcoin, so we must really secured it and always be free to those kind of  hackers.

This is really worrisome especially for the people who don't double check their address before hitting the send button. Maybe we should be using a unique separate phone for our routine and daily bitcoin transactions the phone we don't visit sites and make any downloads but just bitcoin wallet purposes, this may prove to be safe.

Yes! this is a known scam/hack since few years ago but because of the new batch of investors and users coming in and started using crypto, they aren't aware of this but it's good that you have posted this to remind them again.

I've always wondered how they do that in real-time, do they have machines mining vanity addresses 24/7 to change them at the right time?

Skipping that, I always check my addresses 10,000 times before making a transaction, always taking into account the middle and end characters.

This is not really a new scam but not many users are aware of it. On Reddit, it was discussed extensively, please be enlightened  and secure your BTC. https://www.cryptoinfowatch.com/hackers-are-using-clipper-malware-to-steal-bitcoin-from-users/

Years ago I also lost money because of something like that, I copied the address to which I was supposed to send bitcoin, but the person did not receive the bitcoins. When I looked back at the address I sent the bitcoin to, I realized it wasn't the same address. I had a lot of problems because of these things, after I lost money because of that, I started to be careful whenever I send bitcoin

This is pretty much well-known here in the forum not only to Reddit and even if this is a new malware hack it is pretty much a scam or very fraudulent indeed that many users should get aware of even if its a newbie or a pioneer here in the forum, but many types of hacking modus should also be known to the public,

Well, I have said that this is a new malware that hackers injected to certain sites that users may have clicked I think a phishing kind of hack or a site establish to get your coins on your wallet, pretty much full caution is needed by most users that have an online wallet.

Well, some of my friends have experienced cases like this too. This malware was ignored and the news disappeared but re-emerged recently. In the world of crypto is not entirely safe because it is still weak in terms of security and many hackers eyeing. for that, you should be careful, alert and caring.
