Google has banned Ethereum (ETH) wallet and decentralized app (DApp) browser Metamask’s android client from its Play app store.

The MetaMask team took to Twitter on Dec. 26, where they announced that Google had suspended MetaMask’s android client from Google Play’s app store, claiming MetaMask was in violation of Google’s financial services policies.

As far as I think it's because their App didn't kept a warning which warned users that day are doing such things at their own responsibility and the maker doesn't knows that if Cryptocurrencies are legal in their country or not. Maybe this is the only reason because google says it permits app that remotely manage mining of Cryptocurrencies. I don't think there is any connection with that YouTube thing that happened.

I always think why? What's wrong with crypto? I think there are also many victims of fraud because basically it was their fault for not tracing the project, now any decision taken by Google or YouTube will always be controversial, if not like this then there will be many other victims of fraud, if like this they are activists crypto will be harmed too. Everything is wrong and again whatever the decision, it will still be controversial.

Apparently, Google is not against cryptocurrency, but is taking certain steps in that direction to avoid problems in those countries where Google officially operates.  We know that in many countries cryptocurrency is not recognized as legal and therefore this situation can create certain problems for google.  Based on this, a situation may occur where Google avoids the problem.  But I don’t understand why, then, Google allows you to place various kinds of Android applications on the Play Market that use different cryptocurrencies, sometimes even without enough authority among cryptocurrency users.  Perhaps there is some corporate interest here and apparently the Google administration should conduct certain negotiations with the Ethereum team.

Are you sure that MEW apps also delisted from playstore? Coz 10 minutes ago i still saw that MEW still available on playstore. And my MEW apps still working on my android. I still can do transactions ( i just did 3 minutes ago).

well its their store so they can decide whatever they want to. but since they approved it, it means it passed to the evaluation they did before they list it. but the reason as estated was that they are accusing metamask of mining remotely?

this is something they know nothing really which is why they just ban it all including the shutting down of the videos in youtube. they then try to examine all and study things and then come back to restore the videos and probably the metamask later as well. they have forgot to say sorry though.

First Youtube, then Google, it seems more like a fight against decentralised future in my opinion, because some projects like Brave browser are huge threats for big companies, because nobody is able to leak personal information.

I think by the fake news, the price must suffer from a liitle bit low from past few months. There are a lot of scams about altcoin I think they protect viewers from the possible scam that might happen from entering crypto in the use of YouTube ads.

Well according to the article it appears meta mask has violate the Google financial service policies, you don't expect those who violate policies to go unpunished, you make it sound like they where ban without a reason, i guess people should do things according to what is specified, and for the good of the many users of this app, i hope both parties can come to a resolution, after what is already happening with Youtube it won't be good to have Google do same.

Yes, I think the point you said is true and I agree with that. in my opinion to avoid things that are undesirable to each other then every company must look for other alternatives so there are no negative things that are sustainable. I have just heard about the dispute between YouTube and Crypto, if this continues for a long time, it might have a negative impact, especially on users and the Crypto industry.

Hahahaha funny. So they ban legit apps but there are a shit ton load of fake pieces of shit floating around on google playstore with fake wallets and clipboard copy paste theft. There fake traffic apps with fake reviews and even reviews from plain idiots giving 5 stars to something that does nothing. I always report them. Every single one of them. If an app is good and people give it one star I report them.

I love this lol. Maybe they should stop allowing criminals creating apps that are stolen or steal themselves before pointing fingers at legit companies. Google is breaking their own rules by condoning and even allowing fake apps and scams. So !@#$ google honestly and truly.

Metamask is reported to be one of the most secured ethereum wallets, I can't really say why google choosed to turn against Metamask App. I was told google chromes now offers limited support for Metamask, I am okay with brave and Firefox browsers.

I think what Google is doing is still in the corridor of prevention policies. The level of crypto usage through smartphone applications is so high that they also don't want to face risks that could have an impact on reputation, this might not be related to what happened with YouTube yesterday.

Not sure why this is happening all of a sudden. I have heard that Youtube is removing videos related to ICOs and other crypto projects. YouTube is also owned by google and I guess all these are connected and has something to do with them going against crypto currencies. At least they know why they got removed from play store. I guess google updated their playstore terms of service and meta mask ended up breaking google plays financial service policy. Hope everything gets resolved soon.

Maybe the ban on YouTube is because of the rampant fraud or ponzi schemes that are carried out by crypto YouTubers so that YouTube forbids it.

It was a wrong call for them and they've admitted it already.
This kind of removal of certain apps on Google shows how powerful they could be and stop something that starts to ripen. I think the same act as facebook did for removing those crypto related ads and now they've turned into it and allowed it again because they'll be having the Libra project so this could be the same as that and google is setting things a little by little.

It's not really a big deal since we can still access metamask on various browsers including Google Chrome. This shouldn't stir up any negativity, they already stated their reason for the ban. On PC I still access metamask on Chrome and brave, while on mobile I access it on Firefox.

Google is showing signs of authoritarian decisions of late. Youtube was involved in removing crypto-related videos and now Google Playstore is doing its part in blocking another crypto-related app. This is going to be bad for crypto but worse for them. They seem to show that they do not like cryptocurrency at all. Google is replaceable; they need to realize that. They will certainly be replaced soon.

These issues might continue to expand and will cause some implications on some people of this industry. But as long as we can still use metamask in Chrome and other browsers, it could still thrive. Though the removal of the app seems to be a cocky move for me. If somehow even the plugins will be affected of these issues, other browsers might follow or remain the same, causing another rivalry in the browser preferences.

It seems that little by little many are allergic to crypto. I don't know this is a strategy for them to drop the market price and buy it at lower prices or indeed they are being careful of crypto.
Yes, I think this is not really influential. Want to get listed in Google or not, they can still put their application on their own web. No need to bother with this.

This is ridiculous.

Metamask is one of the most useful extensions out there, and its whole purpose is to protect consumers from scams and all. I'm not sure what other features the app version has ommitted or included but I doubt that it's anything malicious at all.

Clearly a targeted attack against crypto IMHO. Not cool.
