I occasionally browse the first posts of longtime users. Sometimes I recognise them. Sometimes they've morphed into something completely different. Some of those who started off sunny and inquisitive have wound up frosty and elitist.

From looking at me I seem to be rather consistent. I'm annoyed by the same stuff. I'm interested in the same stuff. Maybe that points to stable genius or just a dulled mind forever frozen in adolescence.

Have you been consistent throughout, become a better person, or become mad and embittered? Have you noticed others undergo radical personality changes over time? Do your old posts shock you or would you write the same things today?

Accounts changing owner don't count of course.
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

I think my posts for better from the constant "fear" that guitarplinker was looking over my shoulder. That task is now taken by DarkStar_.

The first years I tried to stay away from the Reputation drama though. Nowadays I jump in once in a while.

That is something I was never interested in. The more I ignore it the more adamant I am that I NEVER will be either.

I would also say I've been fairly consistent looking at my previous posts. I had already developed an objective and a posting guideline. My interests may have changed a little over time, but it doesn't reflect much in my posting habit.

have wound up frosty and elitist.
It's much too early to decide whether I'll develop this mindset as well. Maybe I'll check back in a couple of years.

I guess I've become somewhat less zealous, a lot calmer and most likely a little bit more arrogant. Cool
Other than that, my English seems to have slightly improved.

Here is my first post in the forum

I keep my bitcoins and altcoins in trading website like yobit, cryptopia, livecoin, etc. because this websites are user friendly.

I didn't even know what is private key. I didn't know any wallet and I was keeping my coins in the worst way.

A few days later I knew a web wallet. I don't remember what was the web wallet I used that time.

I use web wallet. It is available all times and everywhere.

Here is another post of mine. I didn't know how erc20 tokens work.

Most of these campaigns ask our ETH address. Why ETH address?

When I was a newbie, I thought as altcoins are cheaper, they are more profitable and I preferred altcoins to bitcoin.
Look at this post.

In my opinion its better to buy altcoins such as ethereum, monero dash, litecoin ,etc. I think these coin have good potential to grow in future.
You can buy different coins. Dont invest all your money in a coin like bitcoin or any other. Its so risky.

Hard not to have improved. Here are my first posts on the forum... my first online forum. I would say I've remained mostly consistent in who I am. I try to maintain an open mind, and as soon as I am somewhat knowledgeable I try to provide others with assistance, up to the point I can. I've also never had a problem pointing out that " I could be wrong" or " am no genius". I've delved more into the drama side of things than I'd like, but sometimes things just can't be left to stand without a reasoned response to follow it. I am surprised at just how large a part of my life this place came to be, to the point where I read it when I'm away on mobile and try to make a point of finding and responding to those threads when I am at a keyboard.

Hi there,

Did you sort this out? I'm having a similar issue. Could it have been a power network issue? I'm in Canada so it shouldn't be a problem, but I am in an apartment building and thought that may cause issues.
Anything else you tried it would be good to know
Attempting to trap a person I believe bought a miner wrecked it and returned it through ebay.

Hi there,

So I ran into an issue where I sold a used antminer (through ebay) The buyer claimed it arrived DOA, so I provided a refund. While trying to troubleshoot the problem, I found a post on this site, that matches my timelines perfectly and sounds like the problems my buyer was messaging me about. Only issue they mined just fine for 12 hours then began trying to modify the unit, and I'm guessing got heavy handed with it causing damage.

I'm wondering if there is someone who can confirm the email someone used to create their account, if I provide the one I believe they used. It's a longshot as they may have multiple e-mails, but maybe I would get lucky. I'd consider it a win if I could catch this fraudulent buyer, as a scam is a scam. Any help would be awesome. Thanks
And here is naivety I came in with.

Here is another post of mine. I didn't know how erc20 tokens work.

I still don't.

It's much too early to decide whether I'll develop this mindset as well. Maybe I'll check back in a couple of years.

I had no idea I'd become part of the furniture when I arrived so didn't consider the future. I'm fine with the same questions from newcomers. What I'm not fine with is the posters who've clearly not read the thread title or any other replies. That's when I get a bit queeny.

You can know nothing about the subject but still demonstrate common sense, comprehension and courtesy.

And here is naivety I came in with.

If I looked through too many first posts the procession of aching innocence would break me.

Old posts, ha-ha....
I was curious about Satoshi and that's how i actually found the forum. Register quite late,  tho.

I thought at one point that Craig was Satoshi... really. Just because I watched that video where Gavin said Craig signed a message from an address from the genesis block. I always tend to believe him, until i started reading more about him and the drama around his actions.

I did learn a lot, and hopefully my English got better Wink

Oh, that's good thread! Just few days ago I had read lot of my earliest posts on Bitcointalk. Few my first posts was in off-topic section, basically I just wanted to try how everything works here. And it was few short shitposts with spelling mistakes Cheesy.
Then I moved to Micro Earnings section. Then I was very active user of faucets and actually I was earning quite good money from it (compared with current faucets) and I was little afraid to post in other sections because my knowledge still was limited.
But eventually I got more knowledge and started posting in main boards.
Since then, I hadn't changed much as a person and I'm still interested in same things in general. But my posts changed a lot. Previously, most of my posts were short and very specific. Now I'm trying to go more into details. Sometimes my posts is even too long I think, when 1-2 sentences is enough.
And offcourse, I gained lot of knowledge through all these years here. But I still can't call myself expert in crypto.

Sometimes my posts is even too long I think, when 1-2 sentences is enough.

More than a few people, most especially merit fishers, seem to mistake flatulent length for 'quality' when it is the precise opposite. I like to be crisp. Deliver your point, or rebuke, or flirtation and depart. That's the mark of of a poster worth a reader's time.

i looked back at my post history once and as far as i can tell i pretty much have the same attitude, the only thing that has changed is my experience and understanding of bitcoin. the interesting thing was that i have made pretty much the same mistakes as newcomers nowadays are making and were confused about somewhat similar stuff.
- using faucets!
- fees (specifically dust since i was foolishly using faucets!)
- choosing wallet
- buying altcoins and thinking they will go to the "moon"

specifically about this last part (i think Doge was around 100-150 satoshi back then and it is 30 today):
reading this post made me so happy (woof woof)
as a Dogecoin lover and supporter i wish a better and brighter future for this cryptocurrency, i myself am buying and collecting Dogecoin now that it is cheep, hope it won't stay this way thou Wink

aww to be that naive...

After reading your post, I took sometime to examine myself and I must say I have changed completely. I went searching through past post record and I noticed my very first post plus most posts on the 1st & 2nd page of my post history has been edited by me to trash (delete) meaning obviously the post weren't contributing anything positive to the forum. That's not surprising since I didn't start quite well on the forum, most of my early posts are nothing to write home about but I got better, improving on my post quality (english and construction) as my involvement on the forum increased.

Judging from others recent reaction to my posts, from the DMs of acknowledgement of the impact of my threads, to them seeking for permission to translate some of my works (threads). I guess I'm doing something right and on the right track. But if I was to point out one major difference it has to be my English. Although it's not yet perfect, I'm observing some major improvement.

I actually regret not making posts throughout the years. I've been registered for quite some time, but merely lurking around. I know when I first joined here, it was for the marketplace, and over time I grew interest in the other crypto related sub forums. I'm definitely trying to be more active now, so that in years to come, I'll be able to answer this properly Tongue

I was a giant dick for my first 2 years or so at the forum, which was mainly because I was unhappy with my work situation.

Thanks to bitcoin, the blockchain and other cryptocurrencies, I have since remedied that problem, and now am only a medium dick.

The thing that changed is my concept of money. I was thinking that money must be central and you must have a job "in the private or public sector" to be able to make money.
The idea of decentralizing money or printing "mining" that money without resorting to central powers was seemingly revolutionary.

I used to think that Bitcoin is a programming language and have the same financial impact as programming languages.

I swear I came to this forum to troll people but ended up actually learning a lot of stuff about bitcoin and crypto instead--and I also got attached to the dysfunctional community here in a weird sort of way.

But I really don't want to go back and peruse my earliest posts because I'm afraid of what I might find.  I'm sure some of them were pure vitriol, because it drove me nuts how many members here were just writing nonsense posts.  And while that's still true to this day, I think I've become either more tolerant of shitposts or at least inured to them.

In any case, I've definitely changed in the nearly five years since I registered here.  Maybe not so much as a person, but certainly in the way I make posts.

I like to be crisp.
And you definitely are.  I've always enjoyed reading your concise and often biting posts, which are always well-written and amusing.

I did it for you. You appear to have had some hormonal moments starting off but did indeed turn into a butterfly eventually.

Shitposts make me feel like a Matrix operator. I barely see them any more. They sort of float past me undigested. From looking at AI bots talking to each other on Reddit I wonder how many of them are on here. They feel very similar.

But if I was to point out one major difference it has to be my English. Although it's not yet perfect, I'm observing some major improvement.

The non native English always impress me a great deal. I've always been terrible at reading and writing foreign languages. A lot of posters who turn out to be foreign have better use of English than me. I wouldn't have known unless they'd said.

ICO looks very good after cross-referencing multiple sources. Waiting for <2k investment ICO dates to be announced.

I wonder how many people will be checking their older posts today and having a purge of all the ones they don't like  Grin.

I occasionally browse the first posts of longtime users. Sometimes I recognise them. Sometimes they've morphed into something completely different. Some of those who started off sunny and inquisitive have wound up frosty and elitist.

I guess anyone can become this way over time and it depends how involved you became with the forum or how much you care about it (and how much people start to annoy you). It's often hard to see how you yourself changes as it's a gradual process just like you don't notice physical changes in yourself or with weightloss/gain, but others do because they have that outside perspective and often don't see you every day. Being a mod and being partly responsible for the uptake/order of things here certain things can annoy you when you're responsible for cleaning up constantly. Think of it like someone managing a flower garden and kids keep coming in and shitting all over it and pulling the plants out. It would start to piss you off and turn you sour if you were in charge of looking after it day after day, but I've started to care less about certain things though, especially with things I can't really change. I used to spend a lot of time trying to get on top of signature spam and finding abusers of certain things but it's never-ending and I'd just rather spend my time on things less stressful now. Not much point in doing things you can't change or haven't even been asked of you in the first place so it's just unnecessary stress and workload really and there's already a lot of that to go around already.
