It was the Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt that the Central Banks have all our best interests in mind all the time (this is of course what we are told in our government accredited schooling), that FUD gave us what we are discussing.

There are some excellent problem identifiers, and excellent problem fixers here, usually not the same person.  When you get someone who is both, they tend to be very very busy.

That's not how ring signatures work.

In order for the FBI to come talk to the other parties in the ring group, they would need to completely compromise all parties. This is, of course, unlikely to the point of being impossible.

An end note from a reformed former political junkie: if you can sell Monero to big corporations on that basis, you will have influential "friends in court" to fend off any Drug-War-style crackdown on anonymous currencies by TPTB. Of course, that means you gotta schmooze them - perhaps through hitting it off with their kids...

Its easier than you might think.  They want it already and are just waiting for the solution.
Multinational Corporations have come to me looking to answer this problem.  Some are already doing it.  
Monero is still too immature, not enough liquidity yet, and the MNC decision cycles are not short, but if CryptoNote continues on the current path, it is the best contender yet for new entrants from that constituency.

Most likely it's easier than I think because I'm stuck in my parents' basement.

For all we know, some of them may be children. No minimum commissions. In fact, were I a precocious child today - the kind of precocious child I was in the days before I hit puberty - I would have probably scraped up $100, bought BTC at LocalBitcoins and started to play around in the exchanges. Assuming, of course, that I had heard about them...

Keep believing. I wasn't on the inherent in its formative days, but from what I've bee able to find out...the early Internet was also a 'shithole' to the point where, in these tighter-arsed times, many would have considered it ghastly.

That image is a follow-on to the CryptoNote whitepaper, so it uses the same parlance. This is not "mixing" in the Bitcoin or CoinJoin sense - everyone is well aware that any approach that has the term "mixing", "nodes", or "CoinJoin" is fundamentally broken.

The bottom line is that knowing that there was 1 of 5 people involved in a transaction still won't help the FBI figure out who those 5 people were (even assuming they have locked up your drug dealer and have access to his wallet).

That image is just an illustration that uses the common practice in cryptography of attaching alphabetical pseudonyms to the participants. The participants there are just transaction outputs on the network. In reality none of these outputs on the network have names attached to them, and it is extremely difficult to attach such names because the entire network is protected by unlinkability (hard to tell that any two transactions are to the same person) and blockchain analysis resistance (hard to determine various relationships between participants that might facilitate such identification using the sorts of techniques that have worked for Bitcoin).

Or to put it another way, the problem with talking to Alice, Bob, Carol, and Dave is that in order to even identify each of those people before you talk to them, you need to go and talk to a bunch of other people, and likewise each of those people is difficult to identify for the same reasons. That rapidly becomes combinatorially prohibitive.

I had to harass the hell out of the guy who runs that site for a LOOOOOOONG time to fix his site !
over and over i would pop up and put it on him.. and that was he had his site setup in scammy way..
time after time he would ignore me and fanboys would attack me and they would carry on their little scams tightly integrated with CoinMarketCrap

i stopped going to that site in like maybe AUG 2013 roughly i think.

I have concrete proof that there was scam scheme being pulled with coinmarket cap and the fake market cap data's
and there was a guy selling trader tips with insider knowledge for a fee !
this guy selling the TIP had insider knowledge far in advance of a coin being added to coinmarketcap and he knew almost guaranteed
that it meant this new coin being added was going to end up being added at the TOP 5 position causing a HUGE uproar and surge in popularity from out of no where !
i was like the only guy who got the tip.. when he tried to sell it no one would bite pretty much. BUT !

he PM'd me the trade tip in full !

and had i exploited the trade tip myself i would be rich right now.. in a way i am kind bummed i didn't LOL
Basically before AUR went on any exchanges and was selling for almost nothing the guy pm's me it was going on coinmarketcap
and that it would be on the top by market cap.. he was right that is exactly what happened like 2 weeks later or longer i forget..
and we all know that was a key factor why AUR exploded up to around $15 to $20 a coin !
I could have been rich !
But, i refused to get involved in the scam.. i have my limits lol
so..
Before and after that i kept harassing the guy who ran the site and i asked him.. how did that guy selling the tip know this weeks in advance guaranteed ?
If this was all regulated like the US stock exchanges all those guys would be doing hard time right now.
I kept telling the guy you think it's fair for a coin to have a 90% premine and have the premine used as market cap data ?
argue.. or ignore.. troll me.. call me a troll.. fight me etc etc over and over
and guess what ?

they NOW use modified data exactly like i pointed out (last i checked) denoting premined coins..
but i had to fight them by myself stretching from 2013 into 2014 to get them to do that or they would STILL be scamming people !

I myself was a darkcoin fanatic. I deeply despised altcoins that were threatening to darkcoin. I know, that many current fanboys for other coins, feel threatened by monero., as I did. That's probably why they messaged BCX about monero. However, I am not like them, I still keep up darkcoin and still hold a very sizable amount, I've also looked into every other altcoin proposing anonymity. I truthfully, have to say, that out of all the anon coins out there, Monero beats them all, in design, features, and development team.

Monero is just hype. It's not going anywhere without the right people from here, which are not on board.

Did you really expect this group to slow the tide of alts being released? I'm not even sure it was the OP's intention -- aside from killing the coins competing with his. Most of the coins listed on various shitcoin killing lists here died of natural causes, which was to be expected. The marketplace takes care of most shitcoins, without any outside influence.

I guess indirectly this group helped influence the gravity well fix put in on AUR, although of course it was primarily due to BCX. And AUR in turn died due to the inherent flaws with the airdrop model.
