i believe 2020 they MAY start finally moving away from PoW, and as the bloodbath ensues for miners,
i think ETH could be a solid hodl for PoS.  ROI will prob be long, but its passive income so cant really complain

One coin I still keep track of every day is etc, there have been strong gains in recent weeks, Hardfork Agharta has made ETC fully compatible with ETH, helping Dapps running on ETH will be able to Easy conversion via ETC, has many times entered the top 10, and is now getting closer.

There are so many altcoins that we should be watched right now. It depends on which field will definitely boom this year. ICO is over, IEO is almost done. The next trend that I am looking for is DeFi trend which we should watched Ethereum, Texos and EOS will likely compete on this. But if the STO trend will boom then we should watch Raven.

There are a lot of speculations going on, but we have yet to see the fruit of their work. ETH is a big example of that, people keep pushing it up because they say when ETH goes to POS its scalability issue will be addressed. Other projects are doing the same thing too, making a transition to POS. I am starting to doubt whether ETH will be a thing again in the future after seeing its last update last year, if you want to find a potential altcoin try to search a project that makes a real partnership with a real company out there instead of investing your money into a payment system project. One of those is Curio, try to do research about it.

Ethereum is my personal bet.

If they are able to deliver what they have promised and update ETH to support PoS.

That will be awesome and hopefully cause some disruption in the crypto world.

at this time, I also recommend holding ethereum. when bitcoin prices go up, most altcoin prices also go up, but there is something special from ethereum, and I only realized it yesterday. when bitcoin prices go up, ethereum prices also go up, but not only in dollar exchange but also in bitcoin exchange, so indirectly the addition of bitcoin occurs.

Most reply above was pointing on Ethereum and I think this coin also has potential when it comes holding long term. Among all altcoins, Ethereum was always the second place of Bitcoin and the dev on this coin was also actively doing right to have good progress of this coin.
Watch out on CMC volume ranking altcoins, because some of them that belong to the top 10 rankings was obviously made a hype to increase the volume ranking, which is considered as an untrustworthy.

I prefer to focus on Ethereum, because it has a strong potential and it is one of the most popular networks which can boom anytime as BTC halving is all set to come in couple of months ETH might bounce back because Ethereum is gaining lot of interest among the crypto users and hopefully 2020  will be a remarkable year for ETH and it's users.

BCH? I don't think it got potential to stay here for too longer so in the next bull market investors will dump that coins which is the only forked coins survived too long we know what happened to other bitcoin forks.

BNB can be a one of the coin to hold for 2020 due to their reputation and if bull run comes more chance for the exchanges to grow up along with the prices of their token.

I will definitely keep an eye on TRX as I have invested into TRX as well as it was underrated for a long time and if bitcoin blooms due to halving then TRX will definitely be benefited by it. Apart from Tron I feel Ethereum, Stellar and EOS will be fruitful and we must keep an eye on these coins so that we don't miss out on the opportunity.

"Closely watching" is needed only when you are not having enough faith on that particular coin. When you are not confident about one coin then why should you invest with that coin, given that there are a lot of reputed and highly use-case based coins are available to invest with.

I do not agree all the altcoins need closely watching so that we can book profits. This must be just a myth. There are a lot of coins are available on-which you can invest and then come back to check with their price levels after years. One good example must be Dash. Still, I agree that watching your portfolio from time to time is required so that you can make decisions based on fluctuations but this is an unnecessary headache you will be taking. For this reason, I am simply investing only with the bitcoins.

Ethereum is that altcoin that will like to hold for a long time because, things will possibly workout on their upgrade. This was my holds in some years back and never regretted my actions, I sold some of my stash at $1k after the last halving, and this will equally boost in the coming Bitcoin halve. I am following COTI, FRM, LTO and Hydro closely. They are working great.

There are lots of them that are really good, but I wouldn’t miss out on Ethereum. When I’m investing in cryptocurrency Bitcoin and Ethereum are always important to me, though I do regular analysis on them all the time. Apart from those two I would say that other good coins you should consider are Chainlink, Synthetix Network Token, and Basic Attention Token.

I believe that everyone already knows about Chainlink and how it has been growing recently. It first caught my attention in the Coinbase app when I noticed that it kept increasing. I have no big interest in top altcoins than  holding them but the best coins to watch out for are new coins, I belief they will outperform old altcoins, I know there aren't too many good new coins but there are few new coins that are worth holding, I will start from TEZOS, followed by ALCHEMY , VEIL, DECIMATED, SERO etc
