i believe 2020 they MAY start finally moving away from PoW, and as the bloodbath ensues for miners,

There are a lot of speculations going on, but we have yet to see the fruit of their work. ETH is a big example of that, people keep pushing it up because they say when ETH goes to POS its scalability issue will be addressed. Other projects are doing the same thing too, making a transition to POS. I am starting to doubt whether ETH will be a thing again in the future after seeing its last update last year, if you want to find a potential altcoin try to search a project that makes a real partnership with a real company out there instead of investing your money into a payment system project. Most reply above was pointing on Ethereum and I think this coin also has potential when it comes holding long term. Among all altcoins, Ethereum was always the second place of Bitcoin and the dev on this coin was also actively doing right to have good progress of this coin.
Watch out on CMC volume ranking altcoins, because some of them that belong to the top 10 rankings was obviously made a hype to increase the volume ranking, which is considered as an untrustworthy.

I will definitely keep an eye on TRX as I have invested into TRX as well as it was underrated for a long time and if bitcoin blooms due to halving then TRX will definitely be benefited by it. "Closely watching" is needed only when you are not having enough faith on that particular coin. When you are not confident about one coin then why should you invest with that coin, given that there are a lot of reputed and highly use-case based coins are available to invest with.

I do not agree all the altcoins need closely watching so that we can book profits. This must be just a myth. There are a lot of coins are available on-which you can invest and then come back to check with their price levels after years. One good example must be Dash. Still, I agree that watching your portfolio from time to time is required so that you can make decisions based on fluctuations but this is an unnecessary headache you will be taking. For this reason, I am simply investing only with the bitcoins.

I am indeed fan of Binance platform no doubt that they can be great when it comes to market capitalization but to be honest. Binance IEO is their reason of becoming popular. For me, ethereum for sure. Besides of ethereum, I have a hope for grin and bnb to increase higher. But I also hope that the other altcoin can grow together. But maybe the altcoin will need to wait for bitcoin price to increase so the altcoin can rise so high, and that will give us another profit from altcoin. We cannot deny that the altcoin movements will follow bitcoin price, and if bitcoin price does not break the higher price, the altcoin will not have a chance to increase. Once bitcoin price increase and back to the lower price, then that will be a good time for an altcoin to start growing.

Ethereum is my pick to be the most successful alt of 2020 and it has already starting showing some positive signs towards achieving that milestone. Last week it recorded a new all time high after it decline from the $1400 it recorded in fourth quarter 2017. Bitcoin cash would had been my earlier suggestion but the possibility of it losing support is high since it's competing with bitcoin and non has ever won such battle since the start of the industry.

I don't think ETH will be a top pick from now because the primary use of the ETH is the smart contract used for the ICOs. The ICO craze has been shifted to IEO and it's a big question mark does the ICO market will be alive again those market has been captured by the exchange coins since the IEO projects are very profitable when compared to the ICOs and the exchanges require a minimum holding for the participation. All these will benefit the top exchange coins like BNB. My top pick would be BNB it might not give the best returns when compared to other alts but it will not disappoint either IMO.

That's shouldn't be the reasons why you should ruin out the second in command among the altcoins, believe me that, they will be moving or upgrading their PoS to PoW which many have seen as a catalyst to the possibility of the coin skyrocketing to another all time high again. Actually, am not ruining out the remains of those coin you have pointed out but, we shouldn't ruin out ethereum because of ICO not in charge again.

I've said it many times in this forum that XRP would be pumping this year as its system was being adopted by a lot of online transaction features of dozens of companies, specially Facebook for their online p2p payments. XRP is also good in traing as it fluctuates not that fast yet having a good market since before this year started.

If Ethereum is not among the coins that you’re watching this year then you’re making a mistake. We all know that a lot of technical analysts have predicted that there is going to be a bull run for Bitcoin and Ethereum being the second biggest cryptocurrency in the world, there is no doubt that the price will increase. And in case you are not aware, that has started happening already, the price of ETH went up to over $200 this week.

altcoin that you mentioned is very much, I prefer to prepare all the assets that I have in 1 altcoin, only in Tron because I see that there will be good developments in the tron and can trigger a rise in the price of tron, the current CEO of Tron continues to make developments that aims to make the platform more and more used by many people.

Not many people are going to be happy with my reply, because on the top of my list are the forked coins such as Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV. I am not a big fan of BSV, since Craig Wright himself has admitted that this coin is manipulated heavily. But I am having a more favorable opinion about Bitcoin Cash. This coin is also supported by industry heavyweights such as Jihan Wu and Roger Ver, so we can expect a lot of manipulation. But from what I have seen, although there is manipulation, it is not as high as we have in coins such as BSV and XRP.

I don't agree about BNB because I see Binance only manipulate their coin with even and whales move at weekend but I'm really sure about Eth and Eos as combination. If 2.0 success eth will get better value and can built powerful brand about rgeir services. In 2018 - 2019 Eos already adopt by many games platform and we know games have fanatic follower, they never ignore value just stay focus with games features. Try to get Eos because in history chart this coin more stable than BNB.

well even though the ripple platform provides information about launching a new program like that but currently can't provide any signs of rising prices because it's still very low, so I think you only need to prepare a few XRPs for you to save and after the new program is really launching and can give a good influence on the price of XRP then you can sell it when the price is high and enjoy the profit you can get.

There are plenty of alts which you can choose between but for me, I am finding BNB, WRX, XRP and EOS to be beneficial to watch closely in the coming markets. Also the current integration of wazirx with binance has made the price for WRX to quickly experience a pump and I think that WRX can be a good coin for investment because it can also have price somewhat equal to BNB as both are utility tokens with a strong product behind.

You can add WRX in your portfolio by making some of your own research. Also top 10 coins from the CMC would make a great achievement in the coming few months so you can diversify your investment on number of such coins.

I have also noticed that there is a lot of hype in the social media regarding Tezos lately. The ICO was one of the largest in recorded history, with a combined investment of $232 million pledged during the initial listing phase. This project looks good on paper (implementation of self-amending crypto ledger technology), but what bothers me is the infighting within the development team (especially between Arthur Breitman and Johann Gevers) and the resultant legal fight. Anyway, the team seems to have reached a compromised and development activities have resumed after a brief period of internal restructuring.

I have been watching Ethereum, Ripple and Binance coin (which now have a great improvement on its price). I don't have any idea about the coin that you have mentioned and it's my first to see it. Based on my experience, all top-performing altcoins will always bring you a good profit. Speaking on what I have seen on their development seems Ripple and Litecoin will definitely the promising altcoins for this year 2020 and yet, their prices are now also increasing. Although we only see the top-performing cryptocurrencies as promising coins this year, we should also look to other projects or altcoins that have good progress on their price. Maybe, if ever we see the bull run this year, I guess we can also see an altcoin season but, still the market is too volatile and we don't even know what will gonna happen in the next coming days. Lastly, if you totally intend to find out all promising altcoins or projects for this year maybe try to conduct your own research about it and make a good analysis so you can easily determine which of them will definitely end up on achieving their objectives.

There are some altcoins to be watched actually, but we can't categorically conclude that they are going to satisfy our expectations.  However, I will love to pay attention to Origin (OGN) and Dabanking (DAB).  I have been watching the progress of these two altcoins and few others for a while and I think they have some survivability potentials.

You can't learn why and what coin suggest to you by users. All person has several prediction by gathering several experience. Two people can't suggest you same same coin without top coin. To stay safe, Bitcoin is right one until halving then you can change to Ethereum because POS launch. For others altcoins you should research.

1-5 alts if you have good amount to invest, 3 of your coins should be inside the top 20 alternative coins while those two you can choose one IEO and one ICO as you there's still chance that some of those projects from initial offering can still deliver good benefits.

I woudn't participate in any IEO or ICO. It is just to big risk as there is really only a handful of projects whose ICO/IEO succeeds and bring profit for those who participated. Unfortunately, there are many more scam projects than legit ones and this is really bad for crypto in general.

As for advice... If I would have to choose 5 projects to invest into, I would definitely choose BTC and ETH with 50% of my portfolio (I know OP wanted advice for altcoins but BTC should be "a must" for any serious investor), 35% of the portfolio would go to two or three of the top 20 CMC projects. I would "gamble" with the last 15% of my portfolio and invest into some low-cap projects that could bring me great profit.

In regards to OP's question, I'd pick either $LINK, $WRX which are some of the hottest altcoins on Binance at the moment. Heck, I would even replace one of the big names altcoins with other low caps altcoins that are currently trending like Origin (OGN), XTZ, ATOM, HBAR etc. I forgot to mention MATIC.

Why these altcoins? In crypto, one of the best ways to profit has been to trade cryptocurrencies that are the most talked about. I think this is one way to identify key coins that will probably make moves. Let's not forget a saying in the trading world – " when a lot of people talking about a price level, it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy". I think this also applies to most talked about coins. This is why Poloniex trollbox was famous in the past. The most discussed coins ended up trending.

Thinking about promising altcoins this year, what comes to mind is altcoins which can withstand the current nature of things in the world and in the crypto space. In my own opinion, I will start with Ethereum of course, because of the rate of its growth as well as the level of trust the community already have in it. Another is ADA and BNB whose teams are also trying their best possible ways to ensure they keep getting their users engaged with more and better services. Other altcoins I will also focus on is XLM, and maybe Monero, although am checking more about it.

I think the list of altcoins to watch out for this year is endless but this will depend on the type of altcoins the person wants, that is, exchanges coins, privacy coins etc. However, this list of altcoins will comprise of the ones which have something to give to everyone which can be seen in their type of use case, working products, activeness of team and so on. Therefore as for me, any altcoin which satisfies this and even more is worthy to watch out for this year, and good examples are Ethereum, ADA, BNB, DASH, Monero etc.

Yeah, because everyone must have a different altcoin favorite and support tendencies. But there is no harm if TS wants to get diverse references. We should have an independent analysis and a strong stance and a good understanding of the development of the altcoin we choose.

To be honest, since a long time ago, the most appropriate altcoin to pay attention to is ethereum, BNB, LTC, and other top coins. it's just that I'm pretty sure that what has special attention this year is ethereum. a lot of ethereum development is awaiting this year, so the possibility of the price can go up

   My last two investments were in Matic and Link, not in that order. First I invested in Link couple months ago, and
week ago I bought some Matic! I think this two projects will have a great future. At least I see that by their
communities and development!
   Among all other alt-coins I have, these two are my newest, and I am glad I have them. In next few months I will

The altcoins that need to be take a look for 2020 is IOTA, BNT and Tron. This because there are many project are now using the Tron blockchain for the tokenization of their project which was earlier crated in only ETH blockchain. Again BNT has also gained many popularity because of the quick liquidity providing in its platform. That IOTA also in high demand for it's blockchain. So, keep this coin in your portfolio.

i believe 2020 they MAY start finally moving away from PoW, and as the bloodbath ensues for miners,

ETH is one of the alt coins that have a large market capitalization at the moment and of course ethereum's plan to launch ETH 2.0 still seems to be an attraction for investors to continue to monitor the movement of ETH alt coins in the market and there is not harm if many people make ETH their investment asset now for both a short-term or a long-term investment, although currently the DeFi hype is on the way of course it won't make ETH lost its popularity as one of the best alt coins ever.
