You are right about this issue... it happened to me also with other coins. On some I was just on time, and on others I've lost the opportunity to swap... being a long time holder does not mean that one don't need to care about what is happening on the project, it is very important to get some updates from time to time on telegram or social networks...

Taking profits at the right time is good,  but I think for some quality altcoins with use-case are good to hold in the long-term.

Well if the altcoins has some bounty campaign then you should think about holding it. Im not saying that some of them will not pursue in the long term but most altcoin suffer a great deal of loss and end up dying and failure always happened on their end.

Long-term HOLD is mainly applied to investing in long-term projects / coins that you really trust. You can buy and wait until the market is saturated, as well as the market to make things clearer

One example of it is ethereum. I dont mind holding my altcoin ethereum for a very long time as we see how dedicated this project for a very long time. I think not all have this kind of seriousness and dedication. Most altcoins I have noticed are all dead but only those retained have listed on major exchanges such as npxs. See the price now and you would hurt a bit if you invest on it on the midst of 2017.

Because if you just hold and keep it in a wallet for 2 years then who knows after 2 years your coin's value may turn into zero value, because of the swap!

So, I joined their telegram and get the updates about the swap! Unfortunately, If I fail to swap on time then all of the value of my holding coins will be zero! So, except Bitcoin, Ethereum, don't trust any coin for just buy and hold for a long time, rather keep updating yourself!

Yes correct. Just be updated for the coin. As a trader it is your own responsibility. If you think it will rise then hold but learn to sell as early as possible when you think it is a bad coin before your profit turns into nothing. Instead, just convert it to ETH or BTC and then wait for it to rise. Do not missed any chance because maybe there is no next time or you have to wait for a long time.

Nah, you do not have to do anything of the sort,,, this is only the activity of day trading and pumper and dumpers. If you really like a new project you only need to support its development and follow closely, and contribute on your own be it through helping beta test or using it simply. Just like how bitcoin started out!

I think it was all a trend in the past years where ICO is popular, A lot of altcoins in the market are all dead obviously in the past years I have a lot of holdings (altcoins) trading it was a good move in my opinion since the price movement has a bit of volatility in it you could still make some profit through it. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of popular altcoins in the market that has a lot of potentials when it comes to long term investment like ETH, XRP, BCH, etc. but surely aside from popular tokens holding other altcoins has a very low chance to experience a price increase from the past years. I think it was just because of a lot of scams that happened and alt because of so many altcoins that are already created to the point that there was no demand for some of the other altcoins.

Of course knowing the update of the coin is very important for holders of long-term investments. I experience the same thing when I don't swap coins that I hold. and finally the coins I could not use. Following the project update is strongly recommended for holders.

Telegram groups will definitely help you to gather some information on what is happening on the coin that you are currently holding as of now. So, you better not to leave them since you will be notified if the coin that you have is rising up or has already a value and ready for selling. Do not just dump your coin and make sure that you sell it when the right time comes.

This is quite subjective and it depends mainly on the type of altcoins in your holding. Some altcoins are worth holding on a long term basis but others you just have to hold it for a while before selling it off. sometimes long-term hold can bring big profits, sometimes vice versa. it can happen according to market conditions. if the market is in a downward trend and stuck, then long-term hold is not the solution. because the market will be strongly influenced by transaction volume, so to be able to pump the market efficiently is to increase the purchase volume.

I completely agree especially if you are holding an altcoins that have no strong reputation yet like it is not listed as top 20 or top 50 in coinmarketcap as there is a big risk that the price of the altcoins that you are holding will turned to nothing.

This will happen once the team will abandon the project or their marketing is not moving so their demand continues to shrink instead of growing. Monitoring them regularly is very important even if you cannot do it daily then find a time to monitor them even in weekly basis so you will not loss that big if the prices will continue to decrease.

In this kind of situation, you should be responsible when you are holding a coin. Whether it is one of the top altcoins or not.
Not because the coin that you are holding is very low, doesn't mean that you will just leave it behind for years.

Either way, risk was and will always be associated with regards to investing in crypto space, and in real life too. You just have to pick among the potential altcoins were the best thing to root in. The catch here is that, sometimes, the one you put on high hopes turns to go on an opposite direction. Thus, supposedly the short term holding became the longer one having the same expectation that sooner, when the right time comes it would have at least a decent price, though unworthy of the time you invest with it.

Agree, considering at least the bitcoin's market timeline. Altcoins could do the same thing, holding for long term neither a bad nor a good idea as well (anyway, who am I to talk, right), it is IMO, if user want to have income secured as should gonna be, may be then, short term would be the best/fit idea, however, if user want to have a double supposedly profit, may be then long term would be a great idea, considering what bitcoin did way back before.

One day I heard someone saying he can't hold altcoins again or mostly new altcoins, then I asked why and his reply was, due to swapping. Many people have lost their assets all as a result of swapping hence I don't blame people who tend to stick to top altcoins to avoid unnecessary stories. The team will always clamour, holding but when you hold , swapping takes place and if you weren't informed, that's it. At the same time, it then shows that any coin you are holding, ensure to always visit the telegram group for updates, and if you are a type that want to hold for very long time, then go for top altcoins.

If you have invested in something then it is your duty to keep track of it. I am not here to support INS team or agree to the terms on which INS is swapping but as far as I have seen the team is working non stop and the implementation of the product in real life is possible. They dont want people to dump their token in the hype of "Mainnet", I guess they have a point there.
Many teams are doing lots of stuff in either delaying or deceiving the investors to hold them to the project. Swapping and holding of INS might prove profitable.

if we have faith to our coin or token from bounties campaign, we could hold it for long time till all roadmap finished developted. i know just holding could not maximize our profit, but when we sell it on wrong moment it could be big mistake for us. i am ever felt this, when i sell my coin suddenly its price continue rising alot. altcoin season will coming soon , and hopefully our assets value could increase alot.

The problem here is the picking of those projects with use cases. Not much have these and even major coin listed are just traded without any use case. Take for example Binance. Not all tokens there have use cases. They say Binance listed only good one but I doubt that all of them are good. Some are just laid to get listed so better avoid trusting all altcoins listed not every project is good.

Holding altcoins in a long term is good as long as you are 100% sure for the coins you hold for a long time dude.
The only risk or problem I see with it is that when hold the wrong coins in the long term. It means, in the end it will be a waste
of time only for hold em in a long term. So, we should be wise in choosing or investing altcoin in the market.
