It is surprising the amount of information that can be derived from a single table (merit.txt), and crossing it with just a couple more scrape originated tables (profiles and delimited metadata from merited messages).

The chart, as you say, is very effective to better understand who are behind most merit awarding acts on a given board, and likely leads to detecting active/past active Merit Sources there very easily. I probably only use five or six of the tabs on the dashboard myself with some regularity.

I have just tried to replicate this table with received merits, instead of sent merits. But I wasn't able to filter out only the say 100 users, so I get this terrible spaghetti colour-blind nightmare graph:



Is there a way to sort the users on the right column according to the relevant metrics in the graph? That graph of your was a custom graph? I couldn't replicate with the standard dashboard tool (maybe it's the vaccine-induced fever...)

I’ve toggled around with the filters, so that they apply to the left hand side column on the Received Merit Chart (they already act in this manner on the Sent Merit Chart). Since the left hand column shows the profiles that have received most Merits on the selected board/s, you can click on the profiles from the left list to include them in the chart. You can also use the mouse to select a consecutive range of profiles.

Selecting more than, say, 10 to 15 profiles on the chart makes it unreadable. If you want to display more, perhaps it's better to show multiple charts with profiles subselections.

I’ve left the Italian board selected as default for now, for ease of view of the above (may change back to selected global users on the next update).

After experiencing a considerable decline in June 2021, I see that the number of merit distributed in the Indonesian Local Board has increased by more than 371%. I know some global merit source are willing to distribute merit in the Indonesian Local Board and that may be part of another reason why the increase is happening. Don't know if there is any added merit source in Local Indonesia, but the July increase really need to be maintained.

@fillippone, I can clearly see that the distribution of merit for Italian local board has increased quite well with an average number of January-July 2021, which is 526 merit and that is very much different from the average merit distributed by Indonesian local board which is only 167 merit. The quality of post and the habit of merit source in providing merit will certainly greatly affect this figure.

In addition, the number of merit sender and recipient in the Italian local board also seem to be quite stable as I can see from this picture. Although the last few months have decreased, the number of merit distributed is still above 500 and yes, many husbands-to-be will cut the celebratory cake.

Post activity per local board during July 2021

When you compare this chart with the June 2021, you will see that there is not much difference; Turkish at the top, followed by German, Portuguese and Italian, and all the other boards didn't experience any dramatic changes either, with the Indonesian board being the only exception here, but looking at Merit Dashboard it seems that last month's low number was due high amount of deleted posts.

Another board that was affected with the same thing and is missing from this chart is Russian local board; albeit being probably on par with the Turkish board in therms of post activity, they once again had huge amount of deleted/archived posts. Just wanna stress that it's nothing to worry about and these things happen, especially on the very active boards.

Merit shared per local board during June 2021

Due recent adjustment in merit sources smerit allocation, this chart looks different, as expected. What's interesting though is that not all local boards were affected; looking from percentage pov, Atrabic  board is the biggest gainer this month (from 56 during 6/2021 to 285 during 7/2021 ) followed by Indonesian (62-230), Croatian (66-242)  Russian ( 944 -2867 )  and Portuguese (210-372). What surprises me though is that it seems like both Turkish and German board didn't get any extra smerit, at least not looking at this chart.

Merit senders and receivers per local board during July 2021

As expected, numbers here went up, especially "receivers" in the Russian local board, which is of course good thing, more people being part of the merit system.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for June 2021

Not a surprise that blue color dominates on this chart, with the pretty much standard names at the top. It will be interesting to see whether local boards keep up these numbers in the months to come, as I hope that boards will become a little bit more active once summer is over.

Croatian board has always been near the bottom of the chart when it comes to merit/post ratio. I am glad that has changed.
It is evident that recent adjustments in the allocation of merit and new merit sources have an effect on our local board. In comparison with the annual average, we achieved double the result last month, which places us above the average of all local boards.

I wish there was some way I could help out with handing out merits in local sections, but I don't speak any of the languages.  If I were to be willing to trust a trusted member reporting an unmerited post that was worthy of merit (in their opinion) and merit it myself, do any of you think that would present a major issue?  The only reason I want to do this is because I know some boards don't have their own merit sources (or simply enough merits to go around).  If I could inject a bunch of merits into a local board, hopefully they'd continue to circulate among the members there.

Yep, it was pretty much obvious from that first monthly overview I made that our local board was seriously undermerited considering our activity, overall post quality and pretty much spam free board. All that is changed ever since we got two new merit sources, so no excuses anymore .

Be my guest! Regarding unusually high Dutch board merit/post ratio, you are right about @El duderino_, he indeed pushed their ratio. Then again, these things happen on lower activity boards, as few good posts that get a lot of merit can really inflate the numbers.

I am glad to hear that you find it useful and that I am not doing it only for myself, even though I actually enjoy making these charts as It's completely different from my usual forum activity, and I only do it once per month so it became kind of ritual for me.

To be honest, I don't see any major issues with that approach. Alternatively, you could use Google Chrome or any other browser with built in translation tool to quickly check out if post you are about to merit makes sense. After all, it is not unusual for merit sources to visit local boards of the language they don't speak, as some of them helped our local board (Croatian) many times and chimed in with a couple of merits.

There is also another way that you could help undermerited boards; choose one of them, and using Merit Dashboard you can see their most merited posts/threads in any time frame you set as chances are that most merited posts are at least, so you don't waste too much of your time looking around.

For example, Pilipinas board seems very undermerited lately, with only 27 merits shared while having more than 700 posts written. If you look at Merit senders/receivers chart, they also have very high amount of users being part of the merit system, relative to their very low amount of merit shared.

So, this is how that looks like, and you could to the same for any other board. Anyway, just an idea that might help you.

When there is a merit source who want to contribute in other local board especially to increase the number of merit distribution then I think the idea should be welcomed by the community and probably shouldn't be considered as a bad idea. But language may be a barrier for people like you who don't usually speak the local language. Especially for local Indonesian board, I really hope you have the opportunity to review them and inject some merit into quality post there. Maybe some people will be willing to help with this. Tell me what I can help you with.

As I know, local board Indonesian actually have several active merit source to distribute merit. @ETFbitcoin and @Husna QA are two source I know of there even though we used to have dbshck and i know several others such as fillippon, DdmrDdmr, COOLCRYPTOVATOR, JayJuanGee, nutildah, and several other source are also involved in merit distribution there. But if you're willing to inject some, then I'd welcome it and thanks for that. I never tire of encouraging local users there to get involved in the merit system and use merit on quality post. But the number of bounty hunters who don't care, might be the reason why the sender and recipient of merit are still at that limit.

This thread is the reason why I care so much about those who don't get the source attention they deserve for their quality post. Since the merit source is also human, they may be able to skip it at any time when they are inactive for a certain period of time in the thread. So this thread is quite helpful merit source to get their quality post.

Great idea! I think you can use Rikafip's monthly analysis as a starting point to see which members are active in which local boards. By looking at the names and comparing the stats month by month, you should be able to notice those that stand out in terms of local board activity. After that, see if any of those names are familiar to you and if you can trust them to point you towards posts in their local that deserve more merits. Start out from the boards that are at the bottom when it comes to receiving and sending merits.

Haha no worries even if you sent as some other people were asking me about it (looking at @fillippone ) . This delay was unplanned, but even though it looks like it was big, as a matter of fact it wasn't as the earliest I could do it was August 6th because if I did it earlier, I would miss data for a couple of days at end of the month. Hopefully next month real life doesn't get in a way of my forum activity.


Two charts in the July overview ("Merits" and "Merit senders and receivers") are updated with the missing Pilipinas info.

Despite being the 14th most active local board (thread actually), number of merit senders/receivers in July is pretty low which is a small number in compare with the number of posts/activity although I have to agree that number of high quality posts are low. However, sadly, we still have no merit source.

Thank you, I think it's a very good idea.
In fact, A few years ago in the Croatian part of the forum I started the topic where local members can report their quality posts and get merits.
A lot of the reported posts are in English so you can review them in person and possibly reward them with merit if you think those posts deserve it.

So far in the Croatian part of the forum we have had the problem that a lot of quality posts are not sufficiently rewarded with merits due to the lack of local merit sources and it has recently finally changed.

Regarding the overview of your local thread, I don't think that I can help you much about that. Since @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard doesn't provide the same data for local boards and for communities without local boards (like your Nigerian topic) you can't really do something like @fillippone is doing for Italian board or me for Croatian board.

What you can do though is extract the data I am using, like amount of merit shared/post made in Nigerian thread, top posters etc and maybe maybe couple of charts to see progress of activity through months. Regarding charts tool, if you want some user friendly, you can use online chart tool (that's the one I used at the beginning) but I suggest you trying Google charts as it offers much more customization.

You are absolutely right, I am long overdue.

I started making those charts few weeks ago, but then I went on a couple of week-long trips that seriously affected my forum activity, including finishing those charts. With that being said, procrastinating/traveling time is over so this monthly overview should be out most likely tomorrow, Saturday the latest!
