Last but not the least, list of those who kept their boards alive and kicking during last year. Among all of them, the most active one was joker_josue with 3282 posts written in Portuguese board, followed by DdmrDdmr who wrote 2076 posts in Spanish board and Ratimov at the 3rd spot with 1998 posts written in Russian board.

Interesting results. Not because I was in first place, since it was normal for having been in first place almost every month. But, I expected second place to come from the Russian tab.

But, of course, what counts here is the consistency throughout the year and not just in a few months.

Congratulations to my podium colleagues: @DdmrDdmr @Ratimov  Wink

That's beautiful! I didn't expect we had this lot of people active in the local thread. I was expecting somewhat 100 or +-10 lol but this number seems great though we had a lot less posts + merit than others. Still, it's great achievement.

But, of course, what counts here is the consistency throughout the year and not just in a few months.
You spend quite a long time on the forum. How do you manage this time lol? Congrats and thanks a lot for the contribution to the forum.

There are so many posters out there who never venture outside of the local boards.
For this reason I think local boards are so important for the forum, and providing them good content is a vital objective for the forum (and where I try to give my humble contribution
Couldn't agree more with this. This forum can be a confusing place for a newbie and local boards definitely help. I mean, I've been active on various forums for ~20 years, wasn't new in crypto and have no problem understanding English yet it was helpful to have group of people that speak my language in that first period when i was getting used to this forum. And now imagine how it is for someone who is new to crypto, has no previous experience on any other forum and struggles with English.

I hope you won't forget your monthly update with December date. I now use this data in 2 reports of mine, the local boards race and my Portuguese Board consolidation.
No worries about that, I haven't missed making monthly overview in last 3 years since I created this thread and certainly won't miss last month's overview.

If we’re considering data for a whole year, the top range, 10 posts (although +) is less than an average of 1 post per month on the lower end of the range, which is a small contribution, and perhaps gets too mixed-up in the same segment with the real heavy posters.
Yeah you are right, I was too conservative and still thinking like I am making monthly overview and not yearly.

As I said, the above is tentative, and subject to what you see in the data, and how much of an effort it implies. Perhaps just to emphasize that it’s interesting to separate the heavy posters and the very sporadic posters as separate groups (as I did above), and break down all between figures into something manageable.
Things get more complicated when you have to include boards that very different in terms of activity. I am still checking things out but I am leaning towards making 4 groups: 1-9 posts, 10-49, 50-99, 100+. Eventually I may add one more groups for those extra active (500+) but I am still not sure about it as not many boards would have members in that bracket.

That's beautiful! I didn't expect we had this lot of people active in the local thread. I was expecting somewhat 100 or +-10 lol but this number seems great though we had a lot less posts + merit than others. Still, it's great achievement.
Keep in mind that even those who wrote a single post in a whole are counted, so that's why numbers are somewhat inflated.

Initial idea was to divide users into 3 groups: those who wrote 1 post, then group for 2-9 posts and 3rd for all that made 10+ posts. Does that make sense to you?
I like DdmrDdmr's way better. Since it's a yearly overview, 10 posts can't really be a number where you would consider someone to be an active poster. I would consider someone that makes a minimum of 10 posts per month in their local as a regular local board poster. Those should belong to the top category in my opinion. If we multiply that by 12, we get at least 120 posts a year to get into the big boys club. But it's not the same thing to write 120 posts in an active local such as the Russian or German, as it is in one that rarely gets much attention or only has a local thread, for example.

Well, you really have to manage your time well, so as not to leave other tasks behind throughout the day.

Normally, throughout the day, I can access the forum every hour or every 2 hours, for about 5 minutes. And then at the end of the day, I dedicate a little more time to the forum.

One thing I always try is that the forum does not affect the opportunity to do other things in my day to day offline. If one day I can't come to the forum or come less often, I'm not bothered.

As per DdmrDdmr suggestion, here is the overview of the active members per local board, separated in groups by their activity (1-9 posts, 10-99 posts and 100+ posts). Initially I created 5 separate groups (two additional ones were 10-49 and 500+) but it was a total mess and you couldn't really see much. After spending few hours this is the best I could come up with, while keeping it somewhat visually pleasing and in line with rest of the charts.

It would have been much easier if it was only few local boards with not so big difference in terms of numbers, as having 18 boards with a huge difference really makes it harder to create something like this.

@fillippone looking forward seeing your implementation for Italian board.

As per DdmrDdmr suggestion, here is the overview of the active members per local board, separated in groups by their activity (1-9 posts, 10-99 posts and 100+ posts).

That's the number of active users throughout 2022, right?

So does that mean that the overwhelming majority of users who posted throughout the year made less than 10 posts? I was surprised, I wasn't expecting it to be like this.

Correct. Same numbers like the ones I shared yesterday but this time members were divided in groups based on the amount of posts they wrote in 2022 to get a little bit clearer picture of the local boards situation.

So does that mean that the overwhelming majority of users who posted throughout the year made less than 10 posts? I was surprised, I wasn't expecting it to be like this.
Yep, and its perfectly normal and expected. Majority of people come to forum looking for help with some problem that they have and when they get an answer, they just disappear while those that get hooked up rare. Its like that on all other forums that I visit so bitcointalk is no different than the others. I also did the same thing on some other forums; registered and then I either worte few posts and never came back, or I visit every once in a while, write a few posts and then disappear again.

<…>
It’s a nice enough overview, and parting from that chart, it may be interested for some people to customize it for their local board and add a history to it.
The chart does provide a clear view of the number of, let’s say, heavy local posters, which are probably fairly structural to the local boards’s activity, both in terms of generated content and as a kind of guidance for others on the local boards themselves. A few boards are well off with these in terms of numbers, whilst others are rather much on the low-end.

One thing I’d emphasize on, is on the lower end of the chart (those with a few posts). Whilst these are the largest group by far on each local board, it may give a false sense of there being plenty of newcomer accounts that potentially will stay for the ride. The truth is, at least on the Spanish local board, that I barely actually see them at all, meaning that many of the likely post in the Altcoin board and/or spam something once in a lifetime, and/or got banned/nuked (the post count will still count their posts).

What I mean by this is that I’m often going on about how my local board is extremely scarce on newbies (in accordance to the potential of the language), and whilst my perception is a consensus amongst the usuals, the numbers on the lower segment (228 on the Spanish board) suggest that there is a potential that does not stay for the ride. My perception is that the intent was not really of staying at all for the most.

Another thing that I notice, at least in the Portuguese local tab, is that some users post more in the global tab than in the local one. So some who occasionally post locally can be very active in the global tabs.

Therefore, all these graphics are not considered all these details, which we have to account for when analyzing them in more detail.

True. Just yesterday, we were commenting on some accounts from my local board having gone from heavy posters to lightweight posters there, whilst being extremely heavy posters on the global boards. People’s posting habits may change overtime due to their personal interests or available time. Nevertheless, from a local boards’s perspective, it would be correct to say that a given account is lightweight, heavyweight or whatnot, though they bear a greater posting category from a global forum perspective.

One could though device an analysis based on this double categorization and see the resulting percentages (time consuming though). I do that in a sense for my local board in relation to earned Merits (earned local vs earned global), though not for post counts.

Side note: In fact, one interesting question which we cannot answer, is how many global posters could post locally, but don’t. I don’t mean that from a nominal recriminatory angle at all, but simply from a quantitative perspective.

Without the local boards I am sure we would have a few less users.
The language barrier, coupled with the lack of knowledge of cryptos, can be very discouraging at the beginning.
An interesting fact is that if the user stays in the local board, in some time he will have the curiosity to know the other boards too and it can be a good reason to learn and practice English.

An obvious benefit of local boards is also the facts and news that only the residents of that region will be interested in and understand what they are posting.

Another thing that I notice, at least in the Portuguese local tab, is that some users post more in the global tab than in the local one. So some who occasionally post locally can be very active in the global tabs.

Therefore, all these graphics are not considered all these details, which we have to account for when analyzing them in more detail.

I've come across users on the global forum with a very common username in my language, but who I've never seen on the local board. And from the posts I could tell that they speak my language, but never post anything in the local board. It's not rare.

Thanks for the interesting work you do Rikafip.
I always follow the bitmover posts with the data, but I realized that I had never left a merit for you hehehe, I'll start following it here too.

Am happy to have made the first position in overall local post count in my local board. I never expected to be first because I know we have many active and regular posters there. But am glad to have made this record. The local board serves as a point of unity for members, especially those from the same part. We can not under rate the local board because that is where many members in this forum find relaxation. That is my experience. It gives me joy visiting my local board. There is much activities there now after theymos granted the board to us.

Its time for a yet another brief monthly overview of local boards activity, this time a little bit later than in previous months as I was busy with yearly overviews. All charts and table are made with the help of @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard and @TryNinja Ninjastic.space.

Communities marked with * (Pakistan and Bangladesh) don't have their own local boards yet but hopefully that changes soon.

Post activity per local board during December 2022

During above mentioned period, 13499 posts were made across 18 local boards, which is a 9% decrease compared to November 2022 and 14823 posts written. It is a quite a big decrease, but I think that its just temporary and  might be connected with holiday period as people have better things to do that write on the forum.

As always, Russian board is far ahead the others, making 2x more than the 2nd most active board (Turkish), followed by German and Portuguese and pretty much the same names occupy the bottom of this chart. Majority of boards had fewer posts written when compared to November, but the one with biggest decrease (percentage wise) was Italian board that for some reason had 45% decrease which is a big change for such an active board.

Number of active members per local board during December 2022

During December last year, 1165 members wrote at least 1 post in their local board, which makes it a slight decrease compared to November and 1204 active members. That slight decrease is not a surprise given the noticeable decrease in the amount of posts written.

I thought about separating members in several groups according to the amount of posts made like I did for yearly overview as that would give clearer picture but it will have to wait for the next month's overview as I've been busy in the last couple of days and it will remain the same until the end of the month. So, if you have some idea how to divide groups, let me know pls.

Merit shared per local board during December 2022

Even through posts written decreased significantly, amount of merits shared increase a lot; from 5469 merits shared in November to 6347 in December which makes it a 16% increase. Majority of that 16% overall increase goes to Russian (1209-1687). Turkish ( 588-843) and Spanish (382-643) boards, while some like Portuguese (293-228) had a significant decrease.

Merit senders and receivers per local board during December 2022

Despite the big increase in the amount of merit shared, number of senders/receivers didn't change drastically: during December 354 members sent merit while 478 received, compared that with November that had 375 merit senders and 431 merit receiver.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for December 2022

And for the end of this month's series of chart, merit/post ratio. Since number of merits shared increased while number of posts decreased, its no surprise that almost all local boards had increased ratio compared with 12 months average. As a matter of fact, I don't remember ever having 4 local boards with more than 1 merit per post ratio, like it was during December.

The most active members per local board during December 2022

Last but not the least, list of the most active members in their local boards. Once again title of the most active member goes to joker_josue [246], followed by DdmrDdmr [171]  at the 2nd place and Ratimov [170] at the 3rd. Congrats guys, keep it up!

Well done, and confirmed I am late this month.
Official excuse: I rediscovered Halo and I am now doing a legendary Run. Such a waste of time, but highly addictive, possibly more than the forum. Hand eye coordination not what it used to be.

Pretty interesting stats @Rikafip & DdmrDdmr. I really appreciate the regular updates.

I was aware that we have a relatively big German-speaking community, but the fact that in the end there were 37 users who wrote over 99 posts and 130 users who wrote 10+ posts surprised me a little. Since you often see the same users opening threads and writing analysis, it is nice to see that ultimately a few more users are regularly active and participate in the discussions.

And that despite the current bear market. Very cool, looks like oldschool forums like Bitcointalk are not dead yet.

Communities marked with * (Pakistan and Bangladesh) don't have their own local boards yet but hopefully that changes soon.
Yes hopefully Pakistan and Bangladesh will have their own local board. We are working hard and out first target to bring 50 active users and 500 posts evey month. We hope 2023 will be out year of celebration of own local board

according to monthly post results 309 Posts for Pakistan is not bad and January result will be much better than this.
Russian board is providing extraordinary results. 399 active Users is big number and they deserve first place. India activity is down for some month. They have huge number of crypto users but I don't know why they are not interested to talk here

As a fellow gamer, I fully understand the addiction and its a perfectly legit reason for slacking with the overview.

Hand eye coordination not what it used to be
Hah tell me about it. I used to love playing online pvp games (and was pretty good at it) but since my reflexes (and eyes especially) are not what they used to be, I got tired of getting ass kicked by 14 yo kids so now I only stick to single player games mostly RPGs.

Well those are the numbers over period of one year, not one month and keep in mind that ninjastic.space counts even deleted posts so those numbers are probably inflated a little bit. I personally count those that wrote 100+ posts backbone of their local board and regular posters.

And that despite the current bear market. Very cool, looks like oldschool forums like Bitcointalk are not dead yet
Bitcointalk numbers may keep decreasing, but I don't think that it will ever die in the sense that there won't be any people writing on it, no matter happened. It was an important part of bitcoin history and as such will always have enthusiast willing to spend some time on it.

Its not really that consuming as it takes me maybe 3-4 hours spread over few days. I can probably make it much faster but I usually do something on a side (like watching football) while making it and that makes process longer than it should be.

Why do you think that?
Honestly, the forum may even reduce its activity a little, but it will hardly cease to be the main source of information about Bitcoin and this market. It's one of the few forums I know of that has such good stability.
