The OP had failed already on your first advice because he said he has an interest in gnt coin which I think a new coin. It's okay if its gmt coin or stepn since I think this is more legit. It's a walk to earn type of coin/project which also got trended lately but I don't think it's only pure of hype since it's one of the earliest, if not the first in that category.

Not all tokens listed on big exchanges are legit but they only list it because this is their business and they are being paid to do it. If only you will say tokens which owned by big crypto exchanges e.g bnb then that would be better. As long as the exchange is alive, their tokens will also be kicking.

DYOR is really the best thing to do when you're about to invest in old and new projects. That's how you do it and you're holding in your hands the guidance that shall put you at your safety.
But in terms of safety for its volatility, no one has that way of escaping it because all of them are volatile regardless of how old and new they are. And in the scam projects, at the earliest you'll find them out that they've got a different agenda and they're likely to scam.

If you want to have a much better outcome with your investment, doing a good research and make sure that you have a good understanding with the project that you are supporting can give a better chance of making decent profits, if it's also possible to have communication with the developing team to know what are the plans to continue the development.

I won't advice investing now because coins like SOL has huge ties to the FTX exchange that's about to be liquidated. It's no secret that one of SBF most hyped project was Solana and if FTX exchange seized to exist, Solana will be affected as people will dump the token for other projects. BNB would had been a good choice but who knows what's coming for Binance after it destroy FTX. Many people especially US resident will be against Binance and would want to take it down just as it took down FTX. We just have tojoay attention to the market and watch how it react.
If there's not much backlashing on Binance then we have to buy their tokens as now they don't have any competition because FTX was there only competition as other exchange are below their standard in becoming a globally accepted exchange.

For me, I can only say that every beginner should start in the basics or the easy one first and that will be in btc and then the first 2 or 3 top coins. Panic market is the opportunity for those who knows how to work with the volatility of this industry, there are people who manage to make some good amount during this bear season, either they use it as day trade or use it for long-term goals, the intention of making money is quite possible during bear if you have that patience to wait for the bounce.

It is true. Because people are panicking and the prices of crypto coins drop significantly, it is a good time to buy. But only use the extra money that we don't use it for the basic necessities. We don't know how long the market will recover, it may take 2-3 years or more. If we use our main money, we may get difficulties to fulfill our daily needs. This is not a wise way to invest in crypto coins.
