I have been running cgminer for the last 12 hours.  My h/s is 0, but I am getting block information and other data.

Are you connected to a pool? Can you post a screenshot?

Also, what are you trying to mine? If the opencl fails to compile it may show 0 h/s. For instance, I'm finding it hard to get any scrypt miner to work on Radeon @ 32-bit/xp...

Open a new browser window to imgur.com, drag & drop the file there, and click "Start Upload". Then it will give you some link codes. Just copy the "Linked BBCode" code and paste into your forum post, and we should be able to see it clearly.

Ok lets see if this helps.

I loaded a frontend gui for cgminer. The gpu speed is constant at 5%. So its not doing any processing on the gpu.

On the status page of the gui it reads getwork 165 and netblocks 8 (9.6 min ave) all other boxes are 0.

You probably need to install the Nvidia CUDA drivers https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads

for AMD Radeon owners it's called OpenCL http://developer.amd.com/tools-and-sdks/heterogeneous-computing/amd-accelerated-parallel-processing-app-sdk/downloads/

...and make sure you have the latest video drivers. The problem is that cgminer is not detecting any GPU, so a new GUI won't help there.

Also the card's specs are pretty good.

Cuda 5.5 was installed, it also installed video drivers. When I rebooted gpu was 3 now 5% since I have got most of my usual stuff running. I just don't know what else to do but try it all again in linux in a virtualbox

VBox only adds layers of "abstraction" to the existing drivers, so I doubt it will solve that problem. Make sure you're using the latest actual nvidia drivers, not the basic ones bundled with windows, and that they're for the right card and the right windows version.

Actually, the problem could be that cgminer is tuned for AMD cards (OpenCL), where CUDAminer is best for nVidia cards (CUDA) such as yours. It's popular for scrypt mining (for litecoins), but can be used for bitcoin too. Here's another discussion on it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=173034.0 and another: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=320079.0

You might do well to just mine some litecoin with it. Bitcoin's hardly worthwhile to GPU mine these days.

If you are mining bitcoin, a GPU is not going to cut it. Even if you get it to work it won't be worth it. Use your GPU to mine a scrypt coin such as litecoin or dogecoin. If you want to mine bitcoin you need to get an asic miner such as an antminer.

I may not be mining on my desktop, but did get a miner going on my laptop. 43.44Mh/s. The GPU temp is steady and with in specs.

PRO TIP: That will earn next to nothing, and your laptop will suffer for it, guaranteed. You'll see that eventually, one way or another. Litecoin's not that hard to get into and can be easily traded for BTC or USD, I'd seriously look at using that desktop for scrypt mining NOW, before scrypt chips make it worthless.

I will suggest you not to mine on a laptop get a decent desktop with decent specs for example ram:8 gb and surely don't use nvidia if you are a serious miner, rather go for amd cards they are pro in mining  Wink

I build my own desk top and as of right now I'm running 5 of 6 core amd cpu ( one died) and a outdated motherboard. What radeon card would you recommend? My nvidia card barely works for mining. My roommate and I are getting a few usb miners to take load off gpu.
