Some gamblers are lucky, he is a very lucky guy who has been able to win in this lockdown. If he intends to stop gambling, he will leave it for a while but he will return. It is a habit, I wish him to have enough control and not fall into vice.

but he will ? we dont know what is running on his head.  not all gamblers are going to continue this way forever because a gamblers life is also stressful and verry tiring  .

i believe all gamblers are only waiting for their big breaks before they finally decide to change a better habbit/hobby  . meanwhile , this lockdown again bring some positive effects because people lurks on gambling sites and playing with thier luck and they dont expect to hit such big amounts of cash while only chilling .

That's really a good decision and it takes a lot of resolve to stopped while winning, i wonder how di he get that courage to quit when you could even win millions especially if he has good strategy in Betting. Because i wouldn't really consider it just luck winning $400,000 he must have found a good technique and stopped while the site owner or devs has no clue about it.

Wow, this guy is one in one million  Grin
I would do the same, for real, if I won this amount I would probably stop and enjoy the money for the rest of my life, this amount of money is enought to have a stable life if you invest correctly

We have different techniques and plans in our gambling career and it depends if what are we going to do after winning a huge amount of money, either we quit or we still gamble. I'm pretty sure he has a strong reason why he quit gambling after winning £400,000, maybe he want to invest a business so that he will have a maintenance for his funds as well as earning profit.

His mindset is really for a long term investment that will benefit his family for a long time. But I think if I won that huge amount of money, I will surely invest a business and still play gambling because we all know that gambling is risky and maybe there's a probability that I will win again. We just need to become lucky and seize the perfect timing and patience in gambling to prevent huge losses and acquire huge winnings.

To the guys thinking he will be back to gambling, there are controlled people who knows exactly the time to stop

But some people who stopped from gambling can possibly go back in gambling because of the probability of missing the gambling experience and environment. Sometimes people gamble just to relieve their stress and not to become a gambling addict. That's the reason why self-discipline and controlling your emotion is essential before engaging in gambling to prevent addiction.

I will do the same thing if will also win that huge amount of money, gambling relies on luck so winning on it is such a great feeling. I think winning so much money is enough because you will lost your prize if you still going to bet because luck is not always on our side, know how to be contented, do not take the risk of spending your prize on betting and betting.

All of us here wants to become successful and rich someday, the time where we can buy and do what we want with our own money. In reality, gambling is risky and can put you in a huge losses and that's what you should know about it. Gambling is not a getting rich scheme, maybe the guy that OP stated is just lucky enough to win that prize. Gambling results are very unpredictable and uncertain that's why if you want to win, you must seek some advice to those professional gamblers to give you some advice to minimize your losses.

Winning the game should stop you from gambling, it is really different from those people that won't stop betting while losing the game, some people triggers so much when they keep losing their money so they cannot stop gambling because of thinking that they can turn back the money that have lost.

Not all people are the same, some gamblers want to win more money after winning because they see that there's a possibility of winning no matter how much you've spent. You can't force them to stop, the only way for a gambling addict to stop is by himself to realize his losses.

I think the only thing that will make a person to stop from gambling is when he experienced huge loss in his money and his environment are also affected. Gambling is very stressful if you always win and it can lead to anxiety that can affect people who surrounds you.

Learning when to stop from gambling is really helpful most especially if you're a beginner.

However his decision is really appreciable, because very few will have such a mind to stop after big wins.

Because gambling is a serious addiction that takes a very hard decision to stop. Hard decision in the sense that if a bad experience happens to a gambler, only then he can stop. The guy who has worn such huge amount might continue playing until he goes out of cash then the reality hits him with a lot of regret, only then he can stop.

He may have not played for long enough to get indeed addicted. It's interesting that he's not really a gambler.
But since he won big twice out of 2 occasions, he may start thinking he is even luckier than he is and try again. Interesting to see what'll happen when he starts losing (hopefully not all his winnings).
On another hand, we could give him some credit. Maybe he won't return indeed. If he doesn't really enjoy gambling enough to play for fun with small amounts (and from what I see he doesn't), he may have taken a proper decision which is not that difficult to keep.

I wish him use his winning wisely.

This thread something related to the past megathread here about "How Much winning is needed for a gambler to stop betting"
Because majority of people who posted there answered if they won Big enough then may consider quitting in gambling but the truth is they will stop for a short time while enjoying their Big winning but in the next days or months?
still will back in games and spend much money as they have plenty to lose now.

Hope that the winner will make truth to His word and really leaves the gambling world for Good and spend the money in real world business.

I think that is a very good strategy because you will not procure any losses. This is the kind of strategy I am willing to implement. Surely the gambling owners surely hates this guy because instead of them getting the people with their pockets dry, the opposite happened, though it is a good practice there are more people who are banned because they are too good in playing the casino. On the other hand, gambling owners should should take note that this kinds of people exist so up the ante of your customer services by giving the winning players some reason to stay, and make your casino more maze like and having fewer unseeable exits will do the work, though it may only work with physical casino.

What a mad lad!

That is just amazing. Gamblers would usually do that too but the thing here is that they would be continuing to do that until that £400,000 is lost. The amazing part here is the control that he has. We never know if he continues to gamble since the drive of people would usually make him gamble again especially if he is really desperate. I hope he doesn't gamble anymore as he said and just take care of his children using that money.

Lightning strikes twice this time eh? I would have cashed out after hitting £100,000 in that online slot machine and would have never returned back even after a month later. He pushed his luck a bit more and won so well done to him. Good thing that he's not an addict and I hope he'll invest at least half of his winnings so he'll never go back to gambling.

Josh Spurling decided to gamble out of sheer boredom since he was locked at home due to the current lockdown situation, and he gambled on two different occasions and on both he won big amounts totalling to £400,000.

It’s also pertinent to note that he’s decided not to gamble anymore as he believes to quit while he’s ahead, but something tells me he’s going to gamble again.
Yeah i tend to agree with you that chances of him not gambling again are slim, that's just how it works. We all say this, "if I only jackpot i would never gamble again", but in reality, greed is the main reason why gambling places are so popular, and they count on it. It is all about psychology.
Maybe he won't play again if he just started with gambling and won this money, but if he is long term gambler, it won't be easy to stop just like that. I've seen it so many times while I worked in casino, and extremely rare are those that managed to control themselves in similar situations.

On the bright side, from what i read in article he already spent £50,000 on a house deposit, so maybe he quits while he is ahead, or at least he spends winning wisely, and later on he can continue playing casually, as he was before this (I assume he was a casual gambler).

They say the higher the risks you put into one thing especially on gambling it's a 50/50 chance you'll win big time or lose big time but his case was the former and I think it's really for him. I agree with Rikafip but that depends on the character of the individual and I have a feeling Josh might be dealing again on it, there's no doubt about it. That statement of him not gambling again but still does then the same scenario will happen again, just my two cents.

It's easy to say "I won't gamble if I win $100.000". But the problem is that everyone always have a feeling that it takes just a little more luck to double that winning. And $200.000 is much better than $100.000. And then you start losing. Then you gamble more to cover that loss. And then headlines start to appear: "Winning $100.000 ruined mans life"

Unfortunately the other situation for people who win that $100,000 amount or even higher is to gamble back again since for sure they will hope to win, earn more the same amount and to earn richest out from it since we can't deny the fact that winning such huge amount can cause addiction but that's not reflect or applicable to all and I'm impress with people who have self control which can able to hold their urge to play more on the games they like.

He's very cautious and wary with his fortune knowing that luck doesn't dictate the entirety of the game. It is not bad though if he is going back to gamble again when he will do it moderately but if it turns out to be often as he dragging the down his last resources then something bad is waiting for him up ahead. Anyway I think this kind of gesture like quitting right away is applicable for people who won the jackpot, or something far bigger than what he bet, and had already bet. Since you gain more than what you spend. Otherwise it is just a loss or your money remains the same.
Quitting after you hit the jackpot is the right thing to do, and like what you have said it's very possible that he might comeback and play again, the fact that he quit and bring his money out from the house give him opportunities to think about where to spend the money, if he's wise enough and use it to divert and start a business it will be a good start for him. Let the gambling side be entertaining once you have a business to feed your vices.

Exactly man! The same thing I was thinking whenever I gamble, and wish to hit a jackpot just even once. Though I wanna own some properties I kept on thinking on establishing a business over the other for me to have a strong passive income, you know, you'll have to deal with monitoring, checking inventories, and if it grows up then checking your employees and such. Because we couldn't just depend on luck, and gamble it everytime which is most gamblers fails to think that portrays that obsession with money, and winning would devour us that would lead to unfortunate events.

That's pretty wise of him. Others will hardly realize that, and even if they realize they would have a hard time stopping themselves. When you already have what seems to be an unlimited fund, it must be harder to quit.

The man seems to be one who has great control over himself. Even if he will get back to gambling-- as I don't believe he will totally quit gambling for the rest of his life-- I guess he will remain to be one who can easily hit moderation.

I really don't know what you said there... You have one (1!) full stop in the whole paragraph and it's in the end of it.

I guess you try to say that some people have great will power and are able to stop gambling once they win big. That's true, but if all people were like that, casinos would lose money. They live out of people that want to increase their winning or cover their loses.

Well this headline would lure newcomers to gamble and expecting the same luck as he is which it won't happened.

So yeah it's easy to get back what the casino has given with those 400k pounds winning with some new players come to play and lost.
That's the endless circle in gambling.
Beware , you need to be full responsible on what you gonna do with your money especially the money that you are using for the daily life.

Now I know many will ask me why I feel this, so the answer is simple he’s already spending his fortune away quickly, and he’ll have more confidence in his luck so it’s only a matter of days before he gambles again.

Lastly there’re two important lessons we all can learn from him, 1) quit while you’re ahead and 2) don’t splurge your winning fortune quickly spend it slowly and wisely.

Quote

A SALESMAN won more than £400,000 in online casinos when he was bored during lockdown.

Josh Spurling struck lucky in two games just a few days apart.

Quote

The window and door salesman has already spent £50,000 on a house deposit, as well as presents for himself and his family including his daughters aged eight and three. A holiday is also on the cards.

But Josh is now giving up online gambling. He said: “I feel I’ve had my luck and I’ve done really well. If I carried on I’d jinx it.”

I agree with everything you say it is most likely that he would be coming back to gambling soon when all of it has been spent or he only have a small amount of money on his hand.
We shouldn't really spend our money so fast we should learn to plan and know how to spend it wisely.

I do not agree with you OP. I would agree if he spent the money instantly on parties, but he put down a house deposit, and then spent the rest on his family for a reward (which is good to me). This means he put away his winnings,,, not throw it away.

I would have put all the money to buy the house in cash though, unless he has a job that pays salary (salesman is on commission).
