What do you think about new feature and option to hide posts and topics in bitcointalk forum?
This 'hide' option can hide posts from people who are not registered on bitcointalk forum, or hide posts from everyone.
User can choose to hide or not, but moderators can still see the posts.
This can be good for keeping privacy.

You advertise a campaign for what ... if every post and topic you hide from everyone, maybe today you are kicked from your campaign.

It is a BitcoinTalk forum where members can talk and make discussions related to Bitcoin. Why do we need to hide topics?
We already have hidden boards like Investigations and hidden topics board like  Ivory Tower (Full Members and above only)

use can use some userscripts ---> BitcoinTalk++ script - v0.2.96 to hide topics

I did not say to hide all posts from everyone, but only some of them if you want.
I say this because I recently saw some users deleting thousands of their post concerned about their privacy.
Some alternative for this would be nice.

Why do we need to hide topics?

Some people maybe want to do it for privacy.

Hiding a topic would extend to all posts from all users that have made a post within the topic. No topic starter should be able to hide a complete topic from view.

The best option to make privacy prevail is not to unveil (in a post) anything that may somehow bite you in the ass later on. Once posted, there are going to be backups, scrapes and archieve sites that potentially will hold a copy of the posted information.

I did not say to hide all posts from everyone, but only some of them if you want.

Some people are visiting this forum anonymously without registration, this also makes the forum have importance not to only itself but also to the world, and it is as a result of what they gained from here, hiding function does not make sense, if you can not lock the topic or still not make it available to the whole world, then no need to make the topic imo.

What do you mean by privacy? 
If someone is privacy oriented, then they should not create any username that links them, should use tor browser when visiting the forum and shouldn't post any sensitive personal information in the forum. It's that simple.

So you mean people are deleting their old post? But there's no way you can get escaped of LoyceV archive since it will automatically archive a post once posted. So, if you post a thread public at the beginning, that will be accessible by archived version and if you create a thread with hiding from everyone (guess it has been implememted), what's the purpose of your thread? None. Then, we are good with what we have now I think.

Yes people can still find posts in LoyceV archives or archived with wayback machine but it is not exactly the same.

Maybe he made a mistake or posted his wallet address or some other sensitive information in past and he wants to hide it now.
Moderators can hide post and move them right?

Then this user won't get any negative feedback and the post has a lower chance to be reported.

Sure you can, I only archive public posts. "Investigations" for instance is left alone, and I won't archive anything that's hidden without logging in.

This would be just lead for more spam and undetected fraud from Spammers and Scammers !

Why i should want to hide a post or thread from everyone ? If there is not a fraud or Scam maybe behind the post or thread !
The problem is that many or a lot of Users sometimes posting before they think about what they post.

From me a clearly no for hide posts or threads.

I meant in the case your idea is implemented, scammers can hide the post from all DT members and allow others to see the post.
Since your idea is not hiding posts from some users and allowing others to see the post, that kind of abuse in not possible. Your idea is to hide the post from all users or from no one.

But the feature can still be abused. Some posts need to be visible forever.
The topic can be archived. But if a topic is not shown in the forum, the user will have a lower chance to be banned.

I don't know, why don't you ask BobLawblaw why he deleted all his posts?
He was not a scammer as far as I know, and I am sure he was not the only one who did that.

Maybe give people option to delete or hide their accounts.

He stated at some post that he dont want anymore to be here on the Forum !
And he also has asked for that his Account should be deleted .
Dont know whats happened to him exactly but maybe he got pissed off of something .

If I am not mistaken bitcointalk account's can't get deleted (except if moderators nukes you) so people have no option but to delete posts  or get nuked on purpose.
Privacy laws are more strict now and I think people are concerned about that.

If you want to hide it from everyone then why not delete the content and request moderator to delete it permanently. If the main purpose is just to archive the content then put in notepad then save to your PC.

Can you mention some sample topic here that needs some privacy? Some forum used this kind of privacy tactic to force non-forum user to register and login just to see the content. Bitcointalk.org forum didn't need that because the forum is very active. The delete button for thread starter is the perfect thing to request on admin.

It is a bad idea. Let me explain:

• The forum is for freedom of speech and discussions. Everyone should have rights to read and get information even if they don't register accounts here.
• Forum has its Archival board for old stuffs
• Hide topic option can be abused by scammers. Whenever they successful scam huge funds, and scam accusations are created to attack them, they will choose to hide scam topics and run away with stolen funds.
• Delete all contents can be used by some people but it is only obvious signal of likely something wrong. Not all cases will be scammers but something are strong and likely wrong.

I don't support the Hide topic option.

What he means is that scammers can use such a feature to hide posts from DT members and only leave it exposed to newbies who may end up getting scammed or may end up downloading malware before the posts come under DT members' radar or get noticed and reported by older members who know about the scam/malicious links.
