I am not too worried because I am sure that my president will not do that because of his personal anger. He will think about his people, and he will not make a rash decision without discussing it with his ministry/government. Even if he makes that decision, I am sure that will not makes people who use crypto will have a problem because we have the other way to get the money into the bank account. It is possible for a president to be bad like what you have described because it's his/her account that has been hack. But it just can't be passed quickly out of his words. There's a process even if it's an executive order.

Ain’t worried with it. Here in the Philippines, we are a crypto-friendly country. Unionbank has it’s first-ever crypto ATM (I’ve seen that ATM myself in their main branch in Makati), and they’ve formed Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) where multiple cryptocurrency and blockchain firms can operate (and the Philippine president was in attendance giving the speech during the inauguration), and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) approved lots of virtual currency exchanges (VCEs) to operate in Philippine soil.

However, there are no clear laws yet regarding crypto taxes here in the Philippines. However, I think they’ve implemented regulation in launching ICOs here in the Philippines. SEC Philippines have categorized cryptocurrencies as securities. I’ve seen some physical and online shops within the National Capital Region where they accept Bitcoin as payment method in buying products and services.

There is nothing to fear again about that one.  In the first instance, crypto has never been declared legal before in my country and we have many adopters of crypto.  There was a time my country's government declared that individual phones should be checked by security personnel and anyone with crypto related documents should be arrested, still people were not discouraged.  No matter what my country's government does, I cannot be discouraged or worried.

Regarding the question, anything is possible, we shouldn't be too relax today. Just because some governments are being too friendly doesn't mean that one day they won't overturn their decisions. If they deem that crypto is bring more harm than good to their economic standing, sooner or later they might go against and change their tone. No one is safe from government.

I think such things have already happened especially in 2018-19 where some countries anniunced to ban cryptocurrencies or declared them illegal, it did created some short term FUD and drama but to be honest there was literally no effect on buying, selling, trading or exchanging of crypto coins which proved the solid and commanding position of crypto and increased trust as no third party was able to stop it including governments.

I would not be surprised at all if my country came up with a ban, although I do not think so. But enough stupid choices and laws have been passed out here.. If a large country with a significant economy such as the USA does though, it'd become an issue. On the other hand, hardcore Bitcoin supporters would probably rather emigrate in this situation.

Let's not forget one thing. Bitcoin's ledger is completely transparent, unlike fiat. This means hacks are way easier to be tracked than cash scams are, and this is both a good and a bad thing.

If a fiat scam at the level of Twitter's last vulnerability exploit happened, you couldn't see how much of the stolen bucks went to a certain place. Having a public fully transparent ledger makes things seem way more prominent when it comes to scams than cash tracing possibilites does, but in reality, way more fiat is stolen per day than the equivalent of BTC in USD is.

But.. a ban is now unlikely. It would've been a possibility if we hadn't seen large companies allegedly supporting cryptocurrencies. We have followed authorities' path, so we've basically kneeled to them. Hence, they probably do not see us as a danger anymore.

Yes i often do worry that the government of my country might decide to ban crypto one day because the media promotes how bitcoin and other cryptocurrency are being use for bad deals and considering how people are perpetuating scam with cryptocurrency, there is greater chance for governments to consider banning the usage of cryptocurrency around here! If crypto is made illegal in one country, then it'd be very hard to block funds derived from crypto. After all, international bank transfers can also happen and banks in other countries wouldn't ban cryptocurrency so easily.
It'd be more devastating if a few countries banded together and decided to ban crypto. This way exchanges couldn't simply move to another country if a block of interconnected economies was working together. But that's unlikely to happen. If a country bans part of the economy, other countries will most likely seek to benefit from it.

I think it's a general fear that a lot of people have, but for the most part it is undeserved. The vast majority of countries are democratic and value individual freedoms over the whims of the government.

In order to sign a democratic order banning something, Trump would need to be confident that he is actually able to enforce the ban. However, since the United States does not have totalitarian control over the internet, they're definitely not going to able to ban Bitcoin. In a country like China or Iran, where internet access is heavily restricted, this might be more feasible—but even then, the likes of VPNs and proxies can help those under a firewall use Bitcoin.

There's also the blockstream satellite to consider. Unless a country is willing to shoot these out of the sky (practically impossible given their size), people will always be able to communicate with blockstream using a standard satellite dish. I doubt any President would wake up next day and say "Ban bitcoin" unless the country is under a dictatorship. It is not that easy to pass a law.
The government can't ban cryptocurrencies because it is decentralized but they can ban the usage. It is not something impossible though. There are few countries (mostly corrupted countries) that have completely banned the usage of bitcoin. Using it will get you thrown into the jail.

This is an incredibly unlike you scenario and this is because of a very simple reason cryptocurrencies by themselves do not damage anyone, so governments cannot really use any kind of argument to try to forbid them, the only angle that they had been trying to use to scare people away is that cryptocurrencies are only used by criminals and they have tried to put regulations in place in order to avoid that but straight out banning cryptocurrencies will be impossible because then the population is going to wonder why the government is banning something that is not dangerous for them? I don't think the President in my country would take a decision based on his personal feeling (which is bad mood). In my country, crypto currencies are not illegal, it's even have it's own local exchange and already verified by the law, so it's official and complete legal. But, if someday  the President decide to ban crypto, i don't think it will impact so much to the country, since not many people that used crypto as the payment and accepted payment on their store, only some of it.

I was about to say that the government cannot stop cryptocurrency, then I remembered that there are lots of ways that they can trace people, so it’s probably possible that they can stop people from making use of cryptocurrency, but that’s the last thing I will ever want to happen.

I am not agree with it because for a simple twitter hack, crypto currency that full reflect in economy would be legal. Yes, there's a lot of ways to continue to trade even if the president of your country makes crypto illegal. Aside from sending it from another country, you can also use VPN, though it will be hard to convert it into fiat, the only positive thing is you can hold it until crypto will become legal again in your country.

P2P method is what will be used if any country bans bitcoin and people still want to buy and sell cryptocurrencies. Nothing is permanent, even the way how our government look at a certain thing, let's say for bitcoin, if they are anti crypto now, that doesn't mean they will be forever, unless you are in a country where religion matters a lot to them and if it's against the religion, then that would not change even in the future.

In our country buying and selling crypto is not legal. But we are expecting it to be legal very soon. We saw the news that one of our country banks is working with ripples and became a partner. So many countries have already banned cryptocurrency then accepted. Cryptocurrency features are very interesting even though some countries can't notice its value. People won't follow government policies which support privacy. Every government wants an illegal cryptocurrency but we don't care about it because banned countries' users are more than other countries.

Here in the Philippines where our current president here do not have care for the poor, running the government with greedy and stupidity. I guess cryptocurrency will never be accepted here if he will continue to reign. But if he will be impeached or he will finish his term I hopefully wish that the next president of the Philippines is open enough to the changes that is happening around the world. Not only for crypto tho.

It would take more some time that the world may see the big impact of bitcoin in the world of economic growth. Here in our country still bo indication of prohibitions or even allowing cryptocurrency. I just read some news that some of the government member of our country were open minded about bitcoin or crypto but in president alone not yet. Though it fears me if ever they prohibited crypto because it really affects me as a traders and user of cryptocurrency.

If governments around the world make crypto illegal it will have a negative impact on both crypto and traders but there is nothing to be afraid of the government cannot control crypto and cannot ban it there is a long way to go. The reason for the fear of the President in the Philippines is that most of the people there are poor and do not have much idea about their crypto so if the use of crypto is illegal the President is afraid but it does not apply to all countries. Many countries in the world have supported and crypto is very helpful in improving the economy of the country.

To be honest, there is always a fear that the president in my country will ban cryptocurrency, but even if it does happen I don't
really have a problem with it. Because there are still many ways to cashout my crytpto into fiat, I hope that doesn't happen.

Not totally accurate IMO, China is a progressive country and yet they does not support crypto as bitcoin exchanges are illegal in their country.
They have their own stance too, but that does not mean the country does not have a good president.

I do believe that restrictions and the like is not forever, a country's stance headed by the president could also change in the future, some with changes for positive to negative and even vice versa, nothing is permanent in short.

Maybe not stupid, but it's like a negative view that has been almost a long time ago. Most people still doubt crypto because they see many scam projects that tarnish the credibility of crypto. and with this pandemic, crypto has little to prove that crypto is capable of being one of the most useful and credible technologies.

A president wouldn't do a stupid thing like the OP said, it was like committing an own goal. Just look at how many people are using cryptocurrency in a country, they would be very disappointed by a president's ridiculous decision. Automatically the president will lose his supporters at the next election. So far, We've never heard cryptocurrency has made a country lose. So, The President can only prohibit transactions using cryptocurrency in a country, but cannot prohibit people from storing cryptocurrency in their wallets.

A president of a country that do such have no idea what blockchain can do for his or her country, if countries like China and Russia have a place in heart for blockchain development why would other countries say no to crypto and blockchain? Same, a president only implements the law, and it's the legislative that makes the law that cam ka e crypto illegal. I think it's not good for any country, it's counterproductive to make crypto illegal, but instead, find a way to harness it in favor of their country. They can regulate maybe, for purpose of protecting its citizen from fraud and accountability.
