on the 18th matchday in the ekstraklasa there were some results that were not to be expected
table leaders śląsk played out a goalless 0-0 draw at home vs. korona kielce. legia were also unable to get a win at bottom-placed łks and drew 1-1, puszcza managed to escape the relegation places with a 1-0 win against widzew and the next top game between jagiellonia and raków was won 4-2 by the hosts. this leaves a two-way battle at the top of the table between śląsk and jagiellonia

at the start of the 19th and thus last matchday in 2023 there were two games again yesterday
górnik defeated warta poznań 3-0 at home and śląsk beat zagłębie 2-1 away to stay in first place in the table during the winter break

with the match between piast gliwice and stal mielec, which the hosts clearly won 3-0, the 19th matchday has now been completed and the ekstraklasa now goes into the long winter break
there were no changes in the top three and the bottom three places

in yesterday's second matchday catch-up game between cracovia and legia, the hosts beat the visitors from warsaw 2-0 to end their 9-game winless streak.
cracovia now spend the winter on 13th place and legia on 5th place in the table

ruch chorzów have once again changed coach during the season. Janusz Niedźwiedź, who had previously been linked with cracovia, will attempt to save the relegation-threatened club from the threat of a return to the 1st league. after 19 rounds, ruch are in penultimate place. the club is six points off safety and has won just one game. 10 have ended in draws and 8 in defeats.
the new coach's contract runs until summer 2025

yesterday saw the end of the long winter break in the polish ekstraklasa with the two friday matches. there was one home win and one away win each yesterday
stal mielec defeated promoted puszcza 2-1 and legia celebrated a 1-0 away win at ruch chorzów

the first matchday of the year and therefore the 20th matchday in the ekstraklasa is now over.
and we have a new league leader, as śląsk wrocław lost 0-1 at home vs. pogoń szczeczin and jagiellonia won 3-1 away vs. widzew.
polish champions raków lost 1-2 away at warta poznań and cracovia crushed radom radomiak 6-0

there were two away wins yesterday to kick off the 21st matchday.
the guests from szczecin won clearly at radom radomiak with 4-0 and śląsk wrocław surprisingly lost 0-1 at home against stal mielec

yesterday, matchday 21 ended with a 3-1 win for górnik zabrze against korona kielce.
a three-way battle is now developing at the top of the table and due to the surprising draw (1-1) of promoted puszcza at the big favorites legia, the club is now equal on points with korona and still has a good chance of not being relegated

the 22nd matchday began yesterday with a draw and a home win.
piast gliwice drew 0-0 with cracovia yesterday and pogoń szczecin beat bottom-of-the-table łks łódz 4-2 at home to keep the pressure on the top three clubs

the 22nd matchday is now over and there were a total of 7!!! draws (4 of them goalless 0-0) in the 9 games. only pogoń szczecin (4-2 against łks łódz) and widzew łódz (3-1 against górnik zabrze) were able to win their games.

at the start of the 23rd matchday in the ekstraklasa, the promoted team ruch chorzów could achieve an important win yesterday. the hosts won 3-0 at home against piast gliwice and remain in contact with the non-relegation places
in the 2nd match on friday, warta poznań won 1-0 away at piast gliwice and thus also picked up 3 important points against relegation

after this matchday, we also have a new league leader in śląsk wrocław (2-1 vs. widzew), as jagiellonia lost their away game at górnik zabrze 1-2

at the start of matchday 24 in the ekstraklasa, radomiak celebrated a 3-2 away win at piast gliwice and jagileonnia managed a 3-1 home win against śląsk wrocław in the second match on friday - the club from białystok has thus retaken the lead in the table

the 24th matchday ended today with the first defeat for warta poznań in this year. the club lost 0-1 at home to bottom of the table łks łódz today
the other club from łódz (widzew) also won the classic against legia 1-0
lech poznań and raków were unable to win their games and both drew

yesterday, piast gliwice won their home game against puszcza 1-0 and moved up to 12th place
today, reigning polish champions raków won their away game at korona kielce 2-0 and are now 2 points behind jagiellonia and śląsk wrocław on 3rd place

yesterday's friday matches at the start of matchday #25 produced the following results
zagłębie drew 0-0 at home against stal mielec and lech poznań won the city derby against warta 2-0

I never knew we have a thread for one of my favorite leagues, that usually give me big odds for over2.5 goals which is a selection I love playing. I know not many people play this league because it is hard to predict but if one settles down and add some factors into consideration, one will be able to get some cool odds from this league.

My favorite teams are Jagiellonia, Legia Warszawa and Lech Poznan but I play them to score 2 goals whenever they play home only because at away, anything can happen. Although, Legia Warszawa have not been doing so well this season, probably due to the European competitions. But they have not failed to give me home over0.5 whenever they are home, so it is that option for me tomorrow as they face Piast Gliwice, an average team that will not be able to stop them. Next weekend have more interesting matches for me.

Despite being Polish, I haven't been following Extraklasa for probably more than a decade now, but decided to take a peek at the table to see what's new.
The first surprise is the absence of Wisła Kraków, which used to be one of the best, biggest and richest clubs in Poland. Not sure whether they got relegated because of poor performance or was it because of some penalty points received etc? I see they're doing OK in the 1 Liga though, so might be back next season.

The second surprise was the Puszcza Niepołomice. How on earth a club from such a small town (of which I haven't heard in my entire life) has managed to get that far? I see they have to get in an agreement with Cracovia to play league games at their stadium to get the licence to play in Extraklasa.
I'm not sure if that's a sign of Extraklasa being on such a low level or was it due to Puszcza Niepołomice being exceptionally good. I wish them all the best though.

the winner of the 25th matchday was jagiellonia...
due to the matches not won by śląsk wrocław (0-0 at home against puszcza) and raków (1-1 at łks łódz), the club from białystok (with a 2-0 away win at radomiak) was able to pull away from second place with 2 points
the promoted club puszcza thus remains in the race to stay in the ekstraklasa. the other two promoted teams seem to remain in 17th and 18th place.
