The longer time goes on, the more of a BTC maximalist I become, after having seen what I feel is everything under the sun and realizing how slow actual adoption of cryptocurrency is taking place. In 2014-2015 I ran about 30 different altcoin wallets / nodes, before finally settling on a handful, and now only 3 at any given time.

I'd like to know what altcoins are out there that you truly believe in -- not just from an investor standpoint from a user standpoint as well. What altcoin do you most like for the medium to long-term future? What is the next potential BTC-killer or ETH-killer, and why? Bonus question: what about it makes it more likely to achieve public adoption faster than BTC or ETH?

It's been a while since I tried to put a finger on the pulse of the altcoin community and would generally like to know what you think is good out there. So feel free to shill your coin so long as you actually believe in it. I'll likely be skeptical at first but if I see there's something interesting about your coin I'll probably ask you about it.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

OK, but why, and how? What's it going to do that 50 other DeFi projects aren't already trying to do? Frankly I think the entire DeFi thing is a joke -- I don't trust most of it (I think UniSwap is actually a legit product, however) and I don't understand why anybody needs it. Nobody is using it for what it is actually for -- they're all "yield farming" tokens and I don't understand why they have a value. Who buys these tokens, and why?

Hmm... my thread didn't get many takers. Maybe because I'm too critical or else too boring. It would appear we're headed into a new bull run and this will be good for at least some alts. What coins or tokens out there do you think are headed toward significant growth, let's say in the next 6 months or so? DeFi bubble popped and is dying -- its onwards and upwards with newer ideas from here.

You didn't get any takers, because most people have no clue what they're buying. They just saw a YT shill saying "this will most likely go to the moon".
Truth be told, what ever coin/token ticker you write here, someone's gonna attack you that it's a scam/shit/failed project.

Believe me many people still invest on altcoins blindly, they have no clue what they are putting their money into, everyone still wants to make money first without learning, they only learn when they make big mistakes, here is few altcoins I believe in, even if I said my one reasons why I pick this altcoins it still won't prove anything

1. Bnb token

Binance team are just so depending, they are very hard-working and well wisher of crypto currency, as far as this exchange stands I believe that bnb token will keep growing

2. ChainLink

I invest on this project because it's more than just a random DeFi projects unlike many DeFi projects today that offers nothing more than yield farming and lending, Chainlink Oracle links is a use case we need in crypto world, it just works

I hold on Binance (BNB), Crypto.com Coin (CRO), Tezos (XTZ). Many people hold other coin. My coin has given me a lot of profit. But Crypto.com Coin (CRO) coin has lost some. Many have invested in DeFi coin again. Which has caused them a lot of loss.

ethereum is an altcoin that has many uses compared to other altcoins, many of the adoptions that have occurred on the ethereum platform, many of which will develop in ethreum 2.0 and will surprise investors to invest and make ethereum more valuable the gas problem will be resolved in the near future and the ethreum platform will be much better in the future.

Binance coin continues to develop their blockchain with bep20 more and more new exchanges are starting to appear on the binance smart chain, of course, this makes Binance coins even better with the binance smart chain, everything is getting better and the BNB exchange rate will be even more expensive this just goes on and the market getting crowded this is quite positive for BNB prices.

Here are the altcoins I'm holding in my portfolio

1. ChainLink
2. DIA
3. Tezos
4. Bnb token

I believe this altcoins are good enough for long term hold and they have very good performance, I would like to add Ethereum and litecoin but they are old altcoins.

The only altcoin I have in my portfolio right now is Ethereum and Chainlink, I'm more into Bitcoin than altcoin, I believe Chainlink makes sense more than many altcoins, another good one I'm still preparing to get into is Avalanche, these top notch projects comes out once in a blue moon

Here are the altcoins that i've been holding for many severals months : Ada, Chainlink, and BNB.
The reason i believe in Cardano is because of the IOHK team.
BNB are growing fast (stacking, lending, IEO, Smart contract with Binance Smart Chain, farming).
Chainlink bekuz I think DEFI will be the new  hype of the next bull run (if there is one...)

I'll bite ...

Gapcoin (GAP) - https://gapcoin.club

Launched in October 2014, Gapcoin is a largely ignored low-cap, with great potential and a sound Bitcoin-like economic model.

It's a Bitcoin based Altcoin with a genuinely useful mathematical PoW function searching for large Prime Gaps, which it logs and stores in its unique blockchain.

"As of December 2017, the largest known merit value and first with merit over 40, as discovered by the Gapcoin network, is 41.93878373 with the 87-digit prime 2937032340680225901587237661044194634257090755748117620985887982178957288586767 28143227. The prime gap between it and the next prime is 8350."
Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_gap

Gapcoin can still be mined in-wallet with CPU and/or GPU, as well as pooled mining.

Quite simply, the more people that mine, the larger the Prime Gaps that the network will discover. Guinness World Records, anyone?

"PoW: custom, prime gaps
Block target time 2.5 minutes
Block reward proportional to the current difficulty
Block reward halving every 420000 (about 2 years)
Cap: about 10 - 30 million GAP
Difficulty adjusts every block and increases logarithmically (it will probably take years to get to 50)"

Source: original website gapcoin.org

It is believed that the original developer sadly passed away in 2017, which is why the project somewhat dwindled.

Dr. Thomas R. Nicely (who also sadly passed away in 2019) was the curator of Gapcoin's prime gap records.

Clearly, Dr. Nicely was an expert in the field of Prime Gaps, who endorsed the projects results via his web page.

...

I could harp on all day here about the Merits of Gapcoin, both in terms of demonstrating what Bitcoin PoW technology can really achieve, as well as "sound money" and economic model principals, but instead I will just leave you a satoshi quote:

"If you don’t believe it or don’t get it, I don’t have the time to try to convince you, sorry." – Satoshi Nakamoto

...

Gapcoin has been running like clockwork since 2014 and it's not planning on stopping anytime soon!

I'm BitcoinFX and I endorse this message. Cheesy

P.S. Other altcoin projects of merit are in my Sig.

P.P.S. Tokens are not coins.

I am now a BTC maximalist. I used to hold a lot of different coins as well, just like nuthilda. But now I hold only 2 altcoins. Ethereum and Chainlink, and just a very small amount.

I am impressed that so many people are holding chainlink.

I hold chainlink as well, but I don't think it has too much space to grow anymore. Too much speculation around it.

Oracles are certainly a game changer in cryptocurrency world. If all oracles fail, probably ethereum will fail as well. If any other oracle succeed before chainlink, chainlink will certainly fail as well. There are too many risks now. I believe the coin is overvalued, but I don't know much so I keep holding some Smiley

Right now, I am very much interested in this token called "egg" which hasn't been released yet. There are few you can find on coinmarketcap that is similar in name but it is not the one I am talking about. This is one that is from cocoricos.io and not from anywhere else. If you go to that website you will see that there is a decent amount of explanation on what that coin is and what it could be used for.

For me the selling point was the fact that it is mainly for passive income reasons that you will be basically just holding egg if you want and you could generate income with it in form of any crypto you want. Passive income is something we all need to build a base income for our life and that is why I believe there will be a lot of interest towards it as well. Maybe I will be very wrong, I don't know but I personally like it, don't know if everyone else will too.

The situation of project scam and bad projects is still happening and is even higher than in 2014-2015. The market now has a lot of manipulation so the projects are no longer as quality as before.
However, in the recent Defi trend, I have selected a very potential project and they developed the Defi Protocol, called Kira Network. What especially caught my attention to Kira was because they have a huge shill community!  In Vietnam there are 3 largest communities that are Coin98, TradecoinVN and HC Capital, and they all shill about the Kira Network project in the past few days. Smiley

they do marketing well for the project as well as the community, especially they don't need a Bounty campaign.  Besides, they continuously invite reputable advisor to join their project, especially Roger Lim (advisor at NGC ventures). The good news is that they've raised more than $ 3.5 million and that's enough for them to make history.
So i think this will be the most potential project in Q4 of this year.  it will cause an explosion in the near future. You can see review of Kira Network at the link below:

Other than that this sounds very interesting!

Ah yeah.

So i think this will be the most potential project in Q4 of this year.  it will cause an explosion in the near future. You can see review of Kira Network at the link below:

Can you maybe elaborate a bit on what the community is shilling Kira for? I saw that the CEO is quite hot, but that is probably not the (only) reason. :-)

Ah yeah.

Truth be told, what ever coin/token ticker you write here, someone's gonna attack you that it's a scam/shit/failed project.

Well, 95 times out of 100, they'd be right, as most coins fail or are scams to begin with. Of course I prefer attacks buttressed by something other than opinion.

I'll bite ...

[edited for brevity]

Now this is how its done. This guy bothered to put together a compelling summary, explaining the coin's accomplishments and what makes it unique from all the others. It is a shame that the OG coins that have a functional purpose have all fallen to relative obscurity: Namecoin, Primecoin, and yes even Gapcoin. Perhaps they will be collected as antiques someday, at the very least.

Oracles are certainly a game changer in cryptocurrency world.

Fun fact: Augur (REP) held the first ICO (before then they were known as something else) in 2015, half a year before The DAO's, and its still not finished! Building prediction markets, as it turns out, isn't so easy.

OK, so what's next?

Join and be part of this great project, we will revolutionize the DeFI environment with AIrlink project.

I get what you are saying as I also see it as a big rug pull.
Still, I'm keeping my eyes open to what's occurring in the space and recently started researching on Yield.app ($YLD).
In short: the DeFi solution for the non-technical user and to be launched by the end of November, simultaneously with their token generation event.

Here is my take:

1. WABI: product authentication
2. Request Network: Payment gateway with invoicing mechanism

There were many but now with no development.
