I would not have known about the 2022 Community Awards if it hadn't been for the notification I received earlier today from someone who voted for me in a category. I'm sure many people will miss out if it isn't pin on the home page of the forum like it was last year.

All I can do is mention all users who qualify for voting (50 or more earned Merits). If they use any notification service, they'll now know about [Voting 2022] Bitcointalk Community Awards!

I'd agree with the meaning diminishing, but I'm not sure how to correct that problem. Ultimately, it's up to the community to decide who they vote for. Changing the voting system just complicates it further, and preventing past winners will just mean the same 2-5 users will be nominated in the retrospective categories. I don't think it's fixable to a certain degree, and it's unfortunate as I do like the initiate of the community awards.

You can edit your voting post if you wish, up until the thread is locked for counting votes.

Most users are voting for well known users, without actually giving much thought into what category.

If I recall correctly, Foxup won the female category some time ago; how do you nominate someone whose gender is unknown to 95% of the voters? After antihero, this is the most useless category.

At least for Foxpup it's known (because profile information is important to look up  ) and that's once again a reason to set up all details in your Account.  



Maybe we will get a few more gender categories for next year, like cats (Bitcointalk cat) or similar.

I've been nominated at least 2 times as Craft Master as well, while I don't know why exactly but maybe, this category is considered as "wildcard".  
Maybe we can also introduce a "wildcard" category next time.

It's not about discrimination, it's about preventing abuse due to Alt Accounts (preventing multiple votes from 1 person). Such abuse is happening frequently here on Bitcointalk, like Signature campaigns, other giveaways or on DT.
Therefore, adding a (relatively low) Merit requirement is our best solution to enable broad participation while still getting rid of (most) abusers.

I saw my name mentioned in this thread by looking at my quotes and mentions with LoyceV's notification bot (this is not paid advertising), and I was certain I was mentioned because I was one of the winners. Turns out that's not the case. What a shame.

Who wants to spend hours to make a post while he can just copy and paste others idea unless there are guys like me who PMed 3 to 4 users including you (🤣), both forum admin only to know best reporter then later get help from a regular member.

I think miss bitcointalk is a category we should not have from the next years. Spambuster should be only for mods and admins to vote. The event of the year, who will take it? There are no user for it normally.

Look up the definition of discrimination, it has nothing to do with voting. Not all requirements are discrimination, it simply means some users don't qualify. The reason is pretty obvious: it's easy to create new accounts, so this restriction reduces abuse.

Let me put it this way: the users with dozens of alt-accounts spamming the bounty boards are not the most intelligent and useful users.

This is indeed a sound idea. 

I think it's the most difficult and least varied of the votes in this category.
Since it is not always clear whether the users we meet and talk to regularly are male or female. So, we can only choose a user correctly, if that user informed or clearly said that he is a woman. And the vast majority of users did not choose this option in their profile.

Therefore, since the forum is unisex, I find this category unnecessary. Now, the women of the forum, you can express yourself about this.
We are waiting for their feedback, and that way we will soon know who the girls of the forum are..

Your idea is good and it can help to an extent, and i also buy the idea LoyceV adopted by tagging every member that has the 50+ meirt on mention as i also got notified through that as well, i will also like to give this in addition to all you've both suggested that at least every active forum member should occasionally visit Reputation if not twice then once a week to check for any update as that's where the forum/members affairs discussions were been channeled, it could also help to know more about the forum and other crucial updates needed to be pass across.

Yes, information will spread quickly, but if No merit sending is allowed from nominees, will it lure many people to post their nominations? People are very aware of it but very few vote because it's all about merit. IMO

I can speak from my own experience. When I was a newbie, I had absolutely no idea who was who on the forum. Later, while searching for scams on the forum, I discovered the nicknames of other people who were also engaged in this activity; these were the first people I regularly read. Further, while staying on the forum, I began to understand people, and an understanding of the real interests of users came. I think you understand what I'm getting at.
It takes some experience to evaluate users properly, and that takes time. If voting will accept all users, are you really sure that they know who is being voted for? I agree that some people have quickly gained 50 merits, but on average, it takes a long time to gain merits, and during this time, we see users who are already familiar with the forum.
Even now, there are those who vote for someone who is completely unrelated to the occupation in which he is ranked.

You have the point that mate but we must think further which is the qualifications for this thread to vote is 50 merits and above which is I strongly agree with It. Because when all user including Those newcomers here on the forum will vote for sure  there's a big chance that some newcomers here in our community earned less than 50 merits then they just copy and paste from the other voter in order to submit their vote.  And lovesmayfamilis   already explained it above.

Every vote is a duplicate of the previous year's; the only categories that vary each year are "Fail of the Year," "Event of the Year," and "Antihero," the rest is just rinse, repeat, and rinse among the same people. Same voters, same outcomes. Its worth is dwindling.

I believe that this year the winner names will change a bit, as not all users are eligible for voting anymore. This should reduce, in part, copy-pasted votes, which was an activity done many times in the past by various Newbies or other new users, which did not know the backgrounds of the ones they voted for. Having users with a better knowledge about the forum should, at least, make votes more accurate than before. lovesmayfamilis also explained the situation very well in her post.

Of course, weird votes will be present this year too (as it was already highlighted here or here). But I believe these cases will be reduced compared with previous events.

I can already say that next year the Miss Bitcointalk category will be abolished (there will be another category).

lovesmayfamilis am sorry you are misunderstanding my comment. Am not talking about excluding newbies by using that 50 merit criteria. Am talking about high ranked members who do not have up to that number of merit and as such will be disqualified from the voting process. It is not every member that gets merit when they make posts. And you know that.

Making 50 merits the minimum requirement for voting is not a bad idea, but it does not necessarily imply that the user with 50+ merits knows more about the forum than some random newbies/members with less than 50 merits who have been around and very active in the last 3-5 years on the forum. This user has been around since 2016 and must have known everything here on the forum but is not eligible to vote because he has not accumulated as many merits as others. If you want to reduce double voting, use activity points, which are calculated based on how long you've been here.

It is possible for a merit source to merit a large number of members nearing the 50 merits mark and then PM them and buy their votes. Nothing is taken for granted in politics. It is already taking place. A minimum of 30- 50 activity points required to vote will eliminate many things.

Of course, this category is meaningless because we are all addressed as men on the internet, similar to how both male and female engineers are referred to as engineers. Having said that, I noticed people voting for Yohoo62278, o-e-l-e-o, and LoyceV as Miss Bitcointalk. Isn't this reason enough to get rid of this category? Are these ballots considered valid?
