BAN AND UNBAN APPEALS

This is a topic I am yet to see being spoken of or elaborated on and it's core message is one hook we often hope to elude by doing whatever necessary to keep to the context of the rules in bitcointalkforum. This seems like the ultimate punishment for defaulters accounts, accounts which failed to play by the rules of the forum as it in one swipe cuts short all that you've built and hope to archive but lives you with what you've learnt if you actually cared to learn anything not excluding the reason for which you've been banned, as that in itself is a lesson.

CORE THEME AND MEANING
BAN; According to the Merriam webster dictionary, it simply means: To prohibit especially by legal means. I'll refrain this as it applies to the forum as, a restriction of access to a user of the forum from participation in forum activities by legal means to have faulted forum rules and guidelines.
UNBAN APPEAL; This is simply a plea for the reverse of ban.

FORMS OF BAN IN BITCOINTALKFORUM
The ban penalty can either be be temporal or permanent depending on the magnitude of the offense committed against the forum.

WAYS TO ATTRACT THE BAN PENALTY
Most users might know not know this but as unlikely as it may seem, the penalty is usually attracted. How?
It is basically from the things we do that by passes the forum rules and guidelines as stated here:

Note: This could be avoided and it's simple. Instead of by passing rules and guidelines of the forum, keep to it and follow them.

HOW TO FILE IN A BAN APPEAL
Ban mails often comes with an e-mail address to address your complaints (Temporal ban) and at times it doesn't come with any mail address (Permanent ban).
Appeals may be filed in using alts but this in itself is against the forum rules as your not allowed to have alts but if you may and filed in an appeal, you mustn't post comments during the process of a ban appeal else, it could be considered a ban evasion which implies you having and building another account to escape ban.
Ban appeals might come as a topic in the meta section with hope for a review by admin/global mod.

TO CONCLUDE
I'll suggest that users should visit other boards especially the Meta and Bitcoin technical sub boards, read all articles of interest to understanding them before participation in it's discussions, it's better to experience through reading than first hand the undesirables from the forum and most of all, keep to forum rules.

Meta is like the last straw, but not the go to procedure, and should likely be the resort only if you don’t hear back from the main channel cited above (or if you still heavily disagree).

In any case, permanent bans are very rarely appealed in the big picture, and even less reversed totally or partially. Examples: [BAN APPEAL]UPDATE: Total table + Ban status (Need feedback from Global mods) . Those reversed totally or partially normally need to build a compelling case, and be considered net positive to the forum (i.e. those with signature bans on the prior link).

Do they reply to the email send to this address instantly ? I have heard that you don't receive the reply send to those auto generated emails or the reply is very late. That's the reason, the first thing a person do is create an alt account to post in meta to inquire why his/her account is banned.

a quite observation from friends that have lost their account here claimed that sending the email to the account been provided is like pouring water into the sea. as described on the mail. it looks like a waste a time.

I doubt it's instantly, but posting in Meta should be the last option. Additionally, the reason why an account is banned is clearly stated in the message you get in when you enter bitcointalk after getting banned. You can go to some report threads about it (most bans are about plagiarism) so you can check those before actually creating a post in meta, so that you can at least see what got you banned, and if there was a misunderstanding, send an email to the attached email. If no reply is received within a week or so, you can probably post it in meta by then. It may seem like the reason you got banned is not true, for you that is, but  mods wouldn't ban you for no particular reason, so you can rest assure that you really did something against the rules that were reported by someone.

Not really helpful for a user to make a ban appeal. Ban had been reviewed by the MODS and if they decide to ban you that probably means almost  irreversible decision to do. It will just be a lot of work for them Ban a user and then later on lift the ban.

Anyway, as OP expresses it a user could make a ban appeal. Just follow what OP did in his posts but then again as I mention earlier that there lifting ban is almost impossible except if you are as a user contributed a lot i the forum for admin to change their mind in the decision.

AFAIK,no one ever received any response for their ban appeals, they only can find the real reasons so they can be satisfied with their ban at least. One who was banned probably know the reason and no one is going to be banned here by mistake so that is permanent ban,no need to appeal and waste your time.

It is possible to get banned here by mistake, here is a recent example Incorrect ban for plagiarism - I copied my own text.

In this case user copied his own reddit comment and someone reported it, so he got banned. Weird thing is that he is still banned from what I can see, even though he proved that he is original poster of that reddit comment.

Imho, this looked like a pretty simple case and I expected ( and some other more experienced members) it to be sorted in his favor, but I guess mods have different opinion, as he never even got a response and all of this happened one month ago.

AFAIK the replies are depends on the activity of the administrators and staffs, and basically most of them aren't that kind of super active anymore (than the past few years). Also, their webmails can only be accessed not directly through bitcointalk.org nor have any email interfaces focused mainly on bitcointalk (depending on the webmail server). Hence, they only posts on meta to fasten up their appeals, yet ends up waiting for the same period of time as waiting for the email. I don't really see the essence why they need to hurry up their ban appeals and keep making and opening an argument when they already know (hopefully) the reasons behind such bans.

Most of unban appeals won't be accepted, it is the fact!

Let's consider why members get bans and what they should do after one ban (temporary or permanent) drops on account.

• Reasons: don't read forum rules or read but ignore them.
• Don't read the ban message ^[1]
• Don't read forum rules again after ignore them previously and ban message.
• Break rules again (ban evasion): creating a new account, making posts outside Meta, outside ban appeal topic.

I am getting some satisfactory feeling with the level of contradiction coming up in course of this topic and really wish it keep coming including testimonials from previous temporary banned accounts if any, and possibly drop some sort of proof, either by link, screenshot of activities as regards the path to Unban Appeals and also cause of ban. It would do a lot of good by letting other users walk in your shoes (@Unban users). Let's clear the air on temporary ban if it really does exist as it's said or users get to stick with the ideology of all ban is permanent.
Which either it may be, do your best to keep off the path that leads to getting banned.

I agree with this.
We even have a situation where the whole local community thinks that one local member deserves a new chance due to his great contribution to the forum, but that is not enough because the admins have a different opinion.

I think the ban message always contains an email address. Check the example DdmrDdmr posted. The user got permanently banned and there is an email address included where he can appeal.

It's not against the forum rules to have alts. You are free to have alt accounts if you want, but you shouldn't try to abuse bounties/signature campaigns with your alt accounts. Giving yourself merits and positive trust, etc. Many trusted members of this forum have alts, but they are not trying to hide it.

You are allowed to post an appeal thread in Meta to appeal your ban. That is the only thread that you can post in. Everything else is considered a ban evasion.

Not really. Look at the example of a ban message.
It says that the user got banned "probably due to spam or plagiarism". So it could be either of the two, or some other reason.

Saw this as more of a statics of Ban and Unban Appeals and it wasn't discussed. It's a good thing you brought that thread up. I will just update it on OP as a reference to clarify the existence of a temporal ban amongst other uses.

I recall when I translated the Recovering hacked/lost accounts , that I queried on the nature of the provided recovery address, and @theymos indicated that it would change from time to time, thus it was better to redirect people to the OP in English to get the current email to address one’s issues. Possibly, likewise, the appeal email will change from time to time (we’ll see what address the new appeal provide as witness when the resort to Meta’s last straw).

I meant appealing to that email address mentioned with the ban message never worked out, if he is the real creator of the content and still got banned means he is so unfortunate but still he can PM theymos about this issue because theymos often respond to newbie queries via PM.

I have been banned before but on a temporal one, this was because I participated in a giveaway campaign paying in ethereum which is against the rules and regulations on the forum, almost all the participants was banned temporary for 7 days. Giveaway can only be done with bitcoin and I'm pretty sure so many users aren't aware of this. 

It's really a big thing to read more about ban and urban appeals, reasons why ban,  users gets into the forum with no intention of knowing rules and regulations guiding here,  that's why thousands of ban occurred everyday.
