Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea has wins but I think Barcelona will not get past the group stage because both Bayern Munich and Inter Milan will finish ahead of them. The glory days seem over for Barcelona.

Furthermore Barcelona were robbed of a victory due to some real poor referee’s decision, and it also looks likes that Chelsea may just qualify for the next round of Champions League provided they continue to win.

Manchester City have found the SF they were looking for with Haalad. Just like they needed a forward in the style of Benzema, Lewandowski, Drogba, Van Persie, Suarez. They had good players in every region in the team, but they did not have a good football player who was disciplined in this style and a finisher who could score goals in every aspect. They have closed this gap. But you never know what will happen in the Champions League. They may also be unexpectedly eliminated from the tournament this season. They had lost in the final to Chelsea, who looked weaker than them.

Haaland has certainly given Manchester City more of an edge, they are difficult team to defend against with him in it. As for them possibly being eliminated early, yes that is possible as with any knockout competition. I think their chances have increased to win the tournament but their success or failure will also depend on the determination of their opponents too.

Even Chelsea (who are performing well below their high standards in the Premier League) could go far in the competition. When the second phase of the Champions League commences it will be very interesting to see how it plays out.

The domestic games in the English Premier League resume after the world cup ends. The first domestic games are to be played on 26th December but for those wanting to see Champions League action, the next set of games will take place on 14th February 2023.

They all look like they will be exciting games to watch but Liverpool vs Real Madrid is the stand out game for me followed by PSG vs Bayern Munich. There are difficult away games for Tottenham (at AC Milan), Chelsea (Borussia Dortmund) and Manchester City at RB Leipzig.

The domestic games in the English Premier League resume after the world cup ends. The first domestic games are to be played on 26th December but for those wanting to see Champions League action, the next set of games will take place on 14th February 2023.

Results from the games played yesterday 14th February 2023:

AC Milan 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Paris Saint-Germain 0-1 Bayern Munich

PSG are in serious danger of going out of the competition in the first knockout stage. Bayern Munich played well enough to deserve a win. Neymar, Mbappe, Messi and Ramos were all playing but they ended up losing with an average display. They looked like they could win the game when Mbappe was brought on but his goals did not count because of offside. Bayern Munich will probably qualify for the next round when they meet again for the second leg.

Tottenham had a disappointing night at AC Milan. They will have to work hard in the return leg to stand any chance of going through but they will have home advantage which just might push them to qualification.

The first leg games being played this evening 15th February 2023 are:

Borussia Dortmund vs Chelsea
Club Brugge vs Benfica

Chelsea can still qualify for the next stage but they will have to beat Borussia Dortmund. I expect Chelsea to have a tough game which will end in a draw on the night but they will be knocked out on aggregate. Benfica and Borussia Dortmund will probably go through to the next stage of the competition.

The next set of games take place on Tuesday 21st February:

From being 2-0 ahead after just 14 minutes, somehow Liverpool managed to get to half-time at 2-2 and then lost the game 2-5. It was a disaster as far as Liverpool were concerned because even if they manage to win in Spain they will probably not be able to be beat Real Madrid on aggregate.

After the games that were played on 8th March it was clear big teams were knocked out. PSG were humiliated as Mbappe, Messi and their team were knocked out by a brilliant Bayern Munich side that had no doubts they would do it. As for Tottenham, they narrowly lost out to AC Milan over two legs but they were playing the second leg at home and should have at least scored once which would have turned the tie around.

Well, Haaland scored 5 as Manchester City won 7-0. Could this be the year they win the Champions League?

Chelsea, Benfica, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Inter Milan have all qualified for the quarter-finals. I think it is a foregone conclusion that Napoli and Real Madrid will join them.

^  It looked like an easy bet for Real Madrid on paper but the match was kinda a grueling watch.  It's like You knew a goal was coming but after the first half, I couldn't watch anymore as I was getting on edge and had some things to get done irl.  Was glad to see a goal before the match ended.  Lol...  Sad to see Liverpool go but they really had a low chance of getting back with a three goal deficit on aggregate and with the match at the Bernabeu.  If it was at Anfield, maybe...  At Madrid, low chance imho.

Anyway...  Draw for the quarter finals will be on Friday.

After the battering Liverpool received in the first leg it was inevitable Real Madrid would go through to the next round. Liverpool have to try to use this season as a learning experience and try better next season. If they knew they were not going to win the Premier League (and knew they were going to struggle to fight for a top four finish), they should have pushed very hard to challenge Real Madrid but they basically fell flat.

Liverpool need a rebuild of their squad, they have young talent coming through but they need to sell or part with senior players such as Milner, Henderson and ask themselves why they allowed Salah to earn the record amount of money he is getting when he is playing awful football.

Congratulations to Chelsea, Benfica, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Real Madrid and the three Italian teams in the competition Inter Milan, AC Milan and Napoli.

It's  difficult to beat real Madrid if no one is breaking the line and starving Vini of passes.

The midfield is completely dead, Thiago is a pass-marchant, he gave only less than 5 assists at Bayern after making about 3k passes, he is nothing but Jorginho pro max, there are too many sideways passes, Liverpool needs to rebuild the midfield if they want to bring the best out of Salah once more, then a good Trent and Van Dyk backup. They possess effective offensive options.

Like most people I am surprised three Italian teams made it this far. Over two legs I think Inter Milan should get past Benfica. The AC Milan vs Napoli all Italian quarter-final will be full of passion and intensity, it should be a good game to watch and at least guarantees one Italian team will be in the semi-finals but it could be two

Both Manchester City and Chelsea are flying the flag for English teams but Chelsea face Real Madrid again just as they did last season and ended up getting knocked out. If Chelsea manage to beat Real Madrid they will have a serious chance of winning the trophy and that would make Potter a hero and Chelsea would be ready and looking forward to next season.

Manchester City are drawn against Bayern Munich, you would expect Manchester City to win the home game and lose the away game because Bayern Munich are a very good team. It could go to penalties or goal difference.

Salah deserves every penny he's getting from the Liverpool treasure hub.

How can a player that has started playing mediocre football (soon after signing a contract to earn £350,000 per week) deserve every penny? I need to read your reply to this one 

Liverpool legends warned against offering him a record deal because it would upset the balance in the team and because he was already in to his 30s and signing that deal on a 3 year contract was not recommended. Salah, Klopp and Liverpool went ahead to sign the contract and we can see Liverpool subsequently are a shambles and Salah is playing below his own high standards.

I would expect Manchester City manage to lose or draw tonight but expect them to definitely be beaten in the return leg in German because Bayern Munich have played excellent in the competition. If Manchester City get to the semi-final it will be a great achievement but it will be tough. Over two legs I would say Inter Milan would progress to the semi-finals.
