It depends on your level of confidence. Either can be both effective if plays well.

Both also have the same level of risk.

But seeing how you are reacting to that problem, I think in-play staking isn't recommended for you, for now. Just try to improve your pre-match analysis with the help of other site analysis as your guide. Soon, you will be used to it and you can address the problem by yourself.

I'm not betting on football but, just like in every game, there are pros and cons in live betting as in pre-match betting. Of course Pre-Match of staking in which risky but higher chances of winning.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages, up to you really what you want. I'd rather go for Pre-match though, mostly because with enough analysis and relevant data, you could pretty much predict a result very close, if not equal, to the outcome of the game. On the other hand, live betting makes your bets a lot more accurate, though you might lose more money in case you make a stupid decision. It basically requires a lot of discipline and patience, plus a quick mind to actually analyze whatever is happening on the entirety of the match. As I said, there are pros and cons to it, and tldr of it is that Pre-match mainly relies on statistics, while in-play is basically a gut feeling by watching the match and pretty much analyzing and predicting what each team could do.

Both have their respective risks, but indeed in-play is more risky than pre-match. And most of them prefer pre-match

You can make live bets too, but it should only include your prepared games. That means you already study that game and think about consequences. When you make live bets there is a big factor, excitement and that would affect your decision-making ability.

Odds are also another factor. Don't put too much money too low odds and think about a guaranteed bet. Because you can win most of the times but when you lose it, you lose more money than you win all along with this strategy.

I'm not completely against live bets but that is not my first choice and I wouldn't put too much money on them.

Imo they're both equally risky but I think you'll get more value out of live betting just because you can get better odds on the favorites if the match ends up scoreless until half time for example or if they get a red card. The risky part with live bets is that it can quickly turn against you. It's very difficult to execute and takes up most of your time unlike pre live bets.

You can also get some value bets from doing pre live but you have to take it very early before the public is all over it. The risks in pre live is that sometimes betting on a match feels like you're betting blindly because there will be matches where the favorites will look like the underdog. For me pre live is better since I don't always have the time to watch the full match.

Pre match staking is ideal. In play betting is a little bit sort like you will not get excited and get the fun betting for you are only after the winnings and not the essense of having fun amd gets excited with the bet and the result.

I am not a fan of betting in an in game because I am will not get excited to see the result of the bets. For the game is already in play.

I prefer in-game staking though, at least you can see the match and probably get the feel of what going to happened, either the favourite is really doing good or the underdogs will have a chance and make the odds very attractive.

I have experienced this during the Miami series, I remember a game wherein I put a stake pre-match and then continue to beat on the Miami even though the Boston takes the lead, the odds grew like 3.xx something for Miami after that, so I take it and Miami regain the lead and won in the game, very fun and exciting to hit a good odds and very satisfying.

When live betting was introduced several years ago I remember people in lotto (sport betting only) shops always betting on the next goal live.Soon the people released that it was not as easy as it looked so they start to go back to traditional pre-match betting.

I'm a basketball/boxing fan so almost all of my bettings were on that sports.

When talking about risk, i think both are equally risky and there are always advantages and disadvantages on either type of betting.

On my part, mostly i go on pre-game staking as most of the games played in the NBA or PBA coincide with my working hours and seldom i could see live games on tv, time constraint to be specific. 

Also you are right, bet just for the sake of fun as this gambling activity of ours is full of uncertainty, we never know what the future holds so bet only what you afford to lose.
