Actually OP gave a good advice.
But any situation will not be able to prevent traders from carrying out their activities. I still enjoy my trading with an altcoin (I tend to do scalping).
As long as you can apply any trading technique that suits the current situation, you can still trade altcoins without any significant risk.

Ever hear of "buy low, sell high"?  What does that suggest about the altcoin market at the moment?  Seems to me that buying bitcoin as it's hitting its high for the year while neglecting altcoins which are getting pounded is a silly move.

You don't make money by buying things when they're at their high.  That's a sucker move, but it always happens in bull markets, whether it's crypto, stocks, whatever. 

I'm not really that into altcoins, though there are some good ones--but I'd say now would be a pretty smart time to be buying those good ones, i.e., while their price is relatively low.

While I completely agree with your sentiment, I am wondering which altcoins are good to invest in. the top coins obviously will have some gains. But then, they also have some bagholders, so it will be more difficult to grow them towards previous highs.

In other words, what will be 'the story' that drives the next altcoin run? I think it will have to do with usecases and real world adoption - but which are the good projects here?

Investing and trading are different things and even though they both involve buying an altcoin and selling an altcoin, the gap between those two actions decides which one you are. If you buy and sell within few hours, you are a trader, if you buy and hold for longer than few months you are an investor.

I would say trading altcoin right now could be risky, you could still make a profit, you could make a lot of profit because it goes down and up a lot and if you buy at down and sell at up you could make much bigger profit. However I would say buying and holding for at least a year a coin like ETH would guarantee you profit and there is nothing better than knowing that your investment will profit you over long period of time, most of us came into crypto world to do exactly that.

What you are trying to warn is that most new traders do not want to follow. Because they are more interested in fomo trade.

The concept about buying low and selling high is seems easy to execute but in reality it is really hard to identify if it is the final dips or it is the peak of the price. Bitcoin is now in trending where it keeps making HH and HL that are characteristics of an uptrend, for those who are not able to get positions in bitcoin; my advice is you should buy whenever the price makes a breakout because there will be a role reversal where the resistance will become a support and that role reversal is healthy in a trending market. Others can trade alts as long as they can manage the risks where they should lessen their allocation and they should add more allocation in bitcoin.

This is fact.. Although I never trade btc against any Alt. I've been trading btc with usd so far. I changed from eth/USD to btc usd.. And it's been good so far..hopefully, It will continue being good.

Currently seeing the high peak of BTC, i am assuming that we will see 2018 once again.
It's not to far that we will see BTC again in 20k+ USD.
And in this prior time if we trade the altcoins with BTC, then surely we gonna face losses.
Better we need to wait for some moments and give time to the BTC market.

People are generalizing when it comes to altcoins and once they do saw that it doesnt make a move then thats the time they do say that it isnt worth for the risk specially as of this moment.

You can really make out some money with alts if you do know on how to play with it neither if the market is in bullish state, you can still possible utilize those movement and profit with it.

For low cap coins which are usually being hunted for some people then i can say that this is a gamble.You wouldnt know if this one will really get some value or not
but once it did then that will really give much profit but if not then you're ending up on holding shit coins.

Its just a matter on how someone do handle up its alts.

There would be virtually no point to trade BTC with Alts, it's exactly the same thing using your single account. The fact that, you can open multiple positions on a single trading pair is what makes there to be no difference when you trade with Alts.
I'm out here thinking what would be the motive of most persons trading with Alts and all that comes to my mind is, them taking a different position from the previous account, maybe a buy in contrast to sell but in reality, what is gained in one account is lost in the other. So, there really is no point.

As for BTC making Altcoins seem less and less valuable to trade, it's just the way it is. The more volatile, the better.

I also think it is not a good idea to trade altcoins with bitcoin because bitcoin's price is continuously increasing and stable from it's $16,000 price that altcoins might have bad changes in their prices. Selling your altcoins just to purchase Bitcoin that is now having a high price is not a totally good idea instead, accumulate more altcoins.
If you are not a HODLer you can now use your Bitcoin to purchase altcoins knowing the Bitcoin is surging right now. Who in the right mind will buy a Bitcoin anyway? That would be a total loss though. Just try to remember the "buy low and sell high", now that Bitcoin is expensive all you need to do is to sell while on the other hand alts are now making a slight movement then buy is the right thing to do.
