I believed Altcoin already suffered enough and the usual pattern of altcoin is to follow the flow of BTC once BTC price steady at some point. Future trading is a bit complicated and more risky compared on regular trading because it has a liquidation limit that will cause to loss of your asset unlike regular trading that you have a chance to recover if you hodl your asset.

The OP advice is good for those who open position when BTC price is low but for people who left by BTC train. Altcoin is the opportunity train for them to have a good profit. Right timing is the key.

secondly majority of altcoins don't have any kind of potential and all the rises you see are the pumping part of the pump and dump. if you look closely you will see the second part which is the dumping too.

This is not something new, we are experiencing for the first time; if you have enough experienced then this must be the right time to go for shorting altcoins against BTC; but unfortunately most exchanges are not supporting that kind of trading still you need to do it on your own like you may sell your altcoins stash and then need to buy back at lower price levels.

I agree, you can still make profit trading altcoins, but you need to be very knowledgeable. And traders are willing to risk to trade alts with BTC, it's very calculated and the moment that it is no longer profitable then they will have to come up with another strategy, because that's how traders make money here, there are no one formula for everyone. Generally, bitcoin is always stronger then altcoins. Please get more details in Bitcoin pumps/ dumps and altcoin price actions (2013 - 2020). A note for you is pump or dump in that analysis is for a threshold of -5% (decrease) or +5% (increase) of bitcoin price.

USD isn't decentralized either, most exchanges don't have a trading pair called BTC/USD, because dealing with USD directly triggers the KYC crap, unless you are fortunate enough and come from a 1st world country then most exchanges you could use will only allow you to trade BTC/USDT, BTC/TUSD or any other fiat-backed currency, I personally don't trust any of those coins and I think that none of them is 100% backed, but there is nothing to do about it if you really want to trade in an attempt to increase your BTC holding.

The reason why people are buying alts is because they are very cheap these days. Look at ETHBTC, how low can it possibily go. Seems like a decent risk reward to buy some ETH at these levels. Same with LTC and XRP which are hitting record lows compared to BTC.

So people decide whether they want to sell BTC for fiat or alts. If they sell for fiat they are mostly done. But if they sell for alts like ETHBTC and then that alt goes 3x, and they can sell that alt for fiat and get 3x as much. Probably not a good example but you get the general idea.

altcoins are not always always together to increase at times like now that bitcoin is entering its peak period. but experience says that somehow altcoins are not getting carried away with the increase in bitcoin but eventually altcoins will also move up and that's a common thing. indeed at this time altcoin has not moved but in time it will also follow with bitcoin.

Yes Bitcoin has been doing better than every other coin and more investments are going into it , anyone that's trading should trade with BTC/USD unless you're a really good expert and you know what you're doing and you have better plans on how to trade the alts, that aside BTC is the right cryptocurrency to be trading now with just USD. And then if you're a long term investor or trader, it's a good choice to continue with the Hodl if you want to see better profit.

"profit" can be defined in different ways. the long term profit which i have in mind is the performance i was talking about. altcoins have always been pump and dumps, where they get pumped and can well outperform bitcoin but then they will get dumped and all that profit goes up in smokes.

there were shitcoins that went from 0.0001 satoshi (that is a fraction of a satoshi) to 1000 satoshi which simply outperforms bitcoin's entire rise history (that is about 1 billion percent rise!). they don't even exist today.

that's the difference between a rise (what bitcoin has) and a pump (what altcoins have). the price achieved after a rise stays while the price achieved after a pump goes away.

"investors" who "diversify" are looking for long term investment and high reward, low risk investment. altcoins don't match that description.

that would have been true if the said exchange had no KYC at all. i do not know any centralized exchange (specifically those who list tether and not USD) that doesn't have KYC requirements!
IMO the reason why these altcoin exchanges (eg. Binance) don't include USD is because they want to avoid having their business go on the law enforcement radar that fight money laundering, etc. this way they don't have to have a bank account, register their company or have a HQ. which funnily enough we don't know where Binance HQ is and they have always been evading being transparent about it!

Because of this move, correction would be parabolic as well. For people who have a lot of money to spend, buying bitcoin at the current rate probably won't be a problem and the chance of bitcoin to reach a higher point is still very likely to happen. Nevertheless, some altcoins inclined to follow bitcoin whenever it rise such as Litecoin or ETH which provide a larger spectrum of profits even for relatively small amounts of capital. Many traders share their technical analysis regarding those coins as well.

Yeah I feel what OP say, I tried to trade btc/altcoin since two days ago when bitcoin trying to reach $15.000 and most of my trade just got a loss even I've lost half of the capital that I spend, it was horrible. Although the advice everywhere is to avoid all altcoins when bitcoin is mooning, there still some alts that shouldn't be avoided totally as they tend to move along with bitcoin mostly when that astonishing spikes in price is happening coins like ethereum are perfect example as we are currently observing. Still if you do understand how the market react then your chances of profiting from both market becomes certain. Yeah, when bitcoin is dominating more than 70% in total capitalization of crypto space, it would be much better not to touch any altcoins for trading purposes. I trade alts and btc at the same time. What I could recommend is trade them independently. Alternative coins have different charts as to bitcoin, they are not the same. Sometimes they correlate sometimes they don't. But more often based on my experience is that they can have direct and indirect relationship at all. At what cases?

If bitcoin keeps on going up while majority of alts are going down means there were just exchange of money inside the crypto space. People are just selling alts to buy bitcoin. Easy as that, in that scenario if you observe that too early, through the use of bitcoin dominance, you can keep reshorting alts as bitcoin keeps pumping.

This is just one part of the cycle of whats happening in the crypto market.

Actually altcoins are doing pretty good, not all but some of the alts like XRP has gained some serious bull run and there is TRX which is slowly starting to lift so now as the BTC market stablized the other markets are on a swing now. I hope bitcoin just doesn't fall now like 2017 because a drop here can really make things worst not just for the BTC market but altcoin market as well.

A good trader can just use the market and make profits so I don't agree with any of the myths like don't trade altcoins when the bitcoin market is going up or just hold the bitcoins because trading and investing are two different skills and one cannot overshadow the other. I have seen people making more than 1k profit just using small bankroll and taking advantage of the leverage trading option because they know the bull run is going to continue.

Actually, I take advantage whenever bitcoin dominates the market. Just like now, the alts are seem to be recovering from the loss it took when bitcoin pumped hard. I usually but altcoins when bitcoin wildly move the market. Almost all altcoins are moving down if there is a significant move in bitcoin. If we are fear in losing money in trading, we don't gain the profit that we want to have. Trading is risky yet paid a lot. If the price of altcoins are too then it is an opportunity not a loss.

Your suggestion is good but it works only when BTC is either Bullish or Bearish and BTC Dominance Index is higher ( more than 70%) but When BTC is stable and BTC Dominance Index is around 60% then it is good opportunity to entry in alts  (Top 20 on coinmarektcap except XRP) and sometimes traders book huge profit during alts Rally. During the rally alts also show good performance not only against stable coins but also against BTC

It all depends on what you believe in the future of the projects, trading anything you want with anything you want is still alright as long as you think the project you invest into will go up. BNB was just 40 bucks 2 months ago and it has peaked at 340 dollars, did bitcoin increase like that during the last 2 months? Of course not, from last march to this march it has increased from 4k levels to max 60k levels recently and that was one year, if you invested that it would be great but if you wanted the last 2 months BNB was better.
