It looks like Callum Smith is now also in the running to be Canelo's next opponent. He is a more accomplished fighter than Plant but he his style should be more favorable to Canelo. Having that money for the UK broadcasting rights will probably tip the balance in favor of Smith being the next opponent.

The Canelo Alvarez sweepstakes may be quickly over, and a fight that has been a lot of fans’ desired bout for the Mexican superstar may be happening.

ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez reports that Alvarez will be facing Callum Smith in December in Texas. There had been earlier speculation that Caleb Plant could get the call, and Billy Joe Saunders’ name was brought up again, too, but it looks as though it will be Smith.

The date will be either Dec. 18, 19, or 20 — that’s Friday through Sunday — and the location will be in Texas, either AT&T Stadium in Arlington or the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Still, doesn't change the odds, it will still favour Alvarez no matter who he faces right now.

He is certainly going for a KO as his stats are telling. 36KO out of 53 fight, that's a huge KO percentage, so it's likely to happen. The odds here that would interest the bettors are the KO odds, as if we only choose who is the winner of the fight, then definitely we won't get a good betting odds for Canelo.

I agree, it's a better version of Caleb Plant as Callum Smith has that nasty body shots are well and has knockouts his opponents with that one single blow to the body or accumulation that made the quit against him.

So it will be a good and competitive fight for Canelo, but he has the experience, face the best while Callum has fight B-level fighters. But we can't blame him as the division is not that stack up with good fighters.

It Callum Smith will the the likely opponent then good for him. As I champion, he needs to make some money now and the Canelo sweepstakes will bring him that, Lol. It used to be the Pacquiao sweepstakes, but now Canelo is the biggest attraction. So even if he losses this fight (most likely), it will still be a win-win situation for Callum and his team.

He has to improve the defense too because so far if he only focuses on the early matches then the opponents in the final matches will take advantage of the golden opportunity to knock down Canelo, so in my opinion don't give even that little to the opponent because this is a golden opportunity for Canelo in his career.

In my opinion Canelo needs to improve the way he begins fights because for what I have seen he starts very slowly and for the most part he loses the first rounds and it is not until the middle of the fight that you begin to see that he gets on rhythm, and while he has been able to get away with it because he's a very heavy puncher that slowly but surely keeps draining the stamina out of their opponents if the fight gets to the final stages most likely he's going to be down on the judge cards and that puts additional pressure on him to perform.

Smith got cut in the eye, that's why he struggled against the underdog Ryder but still he won a close fight in the judges scorecard. I think it was the first time that Smith got cut or at least have to fight with a disadvantage to survived. But with Canelo we do hope that it will be different and make it very competitive and close. And this is what Canelo wants he usually won in close fights or at least when he breaks down his big opponent like in the Kovalev fight. And for sure Smith body will be tested by Canelo's powerful body shots to slow him down.

To be honest. i have not followed the career of Smith yet and me living in the East side of the globe has just heard for the first time his name when he is paired with Canelo. You are right, fighting a lower tier boxer won't motivate you to train harder, that's the problem most boxers had. A fight with Canelo could be Smith's career paycheck i believe so better train hard for this one.

You should watch his high lights in Youtube and I'm sure you will find Smith a decent challenge for Canelo as he is tall as has the reach advantage. Yes, it will be his biggest paycheck, as Canelo is the new cash cow, with or without Golden Boy. And as I have mentioned, big big challenge for Canelo and good that he is fighting the best in his division but I think Canelo will get the nod here from the judges.

Canelo is a good boxer and even has been offered huge money in the contract signing of his career in becoming a pro boxer. Not only that, Canelo already prove its worth in every game he played. He is explosive and good in offense and defense. But I do like more on how offensive he is like dominating always in the ring. One of the best fight I had been watching and having a draw result was when he match with tripple G. I thought he gonna face Tripple G head on but he changed a  little bit in his fighting style.

Canelo is still the most favorite boxer. Of course, if we look into their stat no wonder that gamblers will likely to put on him.
The odds will tell whos gonna have a big chance to win, no doubt as well as we know Canelo performance from his previous fights with known and heavy puncher boxers as well.

No doubt, Caleb is the underdog here with only 20 fights, but he is taller and has longer reach. In other words, Caleb is bigger, and perhaps this could also potentially lead to an upset match, just like Lomachenko. The good thing is, middleweight is the natural weight class for Canelo.

If he can show different moves like Crawford, he might have a chance to win this fight because even though his opponent has some advantage due to the massive experience he gains from his last fights, new strategy and timing will get him a big score if used well in the ring.
