Bitcoin had been classified as a currency and all currencies are written with the uppercase, think about any fiat currencies written with lowercase, you can't find any, so currency is a noun and all noun starts with uppercase.
It's the opposite. when you talk about the currency you write it with a lowercase b. Talking about the blockchain and technology requires an uppercase letter B.

You can find examples of that with fiat currencies as well. Here is a link to the financial results of the German Telecom operator (Deutsche Telekom) for Q3 2020.

The document says:
Quote
Revenue growth of 31.9 percent in the third quarter to 26.4 billion euros
Adjusted net profit up 6.3 percent to 1.5 billion euros

Yes I know Bitcoin and bitcoin difference but it does not matter unless you like to really specify the right use of grammar. Here in our place where English is not our primary language, most or all people I know here does not matter when it comes to using the right word. Bitcoin is a noun and that itself could be use to name the system.while.bitcoin is a system unit wherein the smallest unit is satoshi.
I just do not pay attention between the difference of the two in writing. It depends on the usage of bitcoin, as a currency or blockchain. What matter is how to work on it to gain and earn it, then use it on the market or any transactions.

As I was completing a survey about an hour ago, there was some mention about the distinction between Bitcoin spelt with capital B, and bitcoin with a lowercase b. Although I have heard about this before, and I usually pay a lot of attention to spelling and punctuation, I have to admit that I have totally forgotten about this.

When we talk about Bitcoin as a blockchain, payment method, or a service, we are supposed to spell the word with an uppercase B.

Here is an example:
My best friend doesn't see the advantages of Bitcoin.

When we talk about the currency or mention numbers and quantitates of the asset, the word should be spelt with a lowercase b.

Here is an example:
I sent my best friend 1 bitcoin as a birthday gift.

Do you pay attention to this while you are posting on the forum?

This is actually helpful information and would be useful for future contents that will be made concerning Bitcoin as a whole. Its a concerning topic since most people just keeps throwing both of these words but sometimes having to capitalize a single letter can create a new meaning which is useful in contents that would be produced.

Actually upon doing any post here in the forum, I do not really bother on how Bitcoin or bitcoin is being spelled out for I just consider the perception of the reader that it would understand what I am trying to say and also the fact that you have stated the Bitcoin or bitcoin duly understandable already no matter what capitalization you are using. Though it is really needed to be stated what you are really talking about on a formal manner whether the block chain technology or the currency itself, but since we are talking on a casual that seems combining the thought or the idea that both block chain technology and currency lies under one name which is Bitcoin/bitcoin, any spell is already acceptable as long as it is understandable and people do already know what you are trying to imply on your statement.

I see, that's the difference between the first letter, upper and lower case.  but the goal is for the cryptocurrency which now has a value of $ 17000.  and will reach $ 20,000 later this year.  and the king of cryptocurrencies.  what if "Dollar * and * dollar* ?are different words but have the same meaning.

I don't really know that their is difference between both spellings of bitcoin, because it's the same spelling and the same pronouncing, so it's good to know what we don't know, looking at the spelling the only thing that differentiate them is capital letter of the alphabet B and small letter b, that's from my views, but any contrary to that I don't knows but I'm interested to know if their is any difference in case of any interview concerning cryptocurrency especially bitcoin

It doesn't matter to me though I use whatever I see would fit to me after all no matter what you spell they still have the same meaning. I don't think bitcoiners will bother to correct such term but yeah, I like the idea of giving a difference about of the spelling. It would be recognize soon to most bitcoiners the same as how the Bitcoin logo changed.

Actually, I really want to know from what time this term is used? The difference between Bitcoin and bitcoin?
Is it based on the dictionary or others?
Because I saw some posts by Satoshi and he used Bitcoin and also bitcoin in the same situation. Not paying attention to the upper or lower case.

However, if it is about the truth, I think from now I will also change my writing style. So far I commonly use Bitcoin or bitcoin without paying attention to the meaning of each Grin Grin

Because I saw some posts by Satoshi and he used Bitcoin and also bitcoin in the same situation. Not paying attention to the upper or lower case.
I took a quick look at some of his older posts. This is what I was able to find:

If you only have 24k blocks, it must not have finished the initial block download.  Exit bitcoin and start it again.  Version 0.2 is better/faster at the initial block download.

For now, you can just multiply the total blocks by 50.  The Bitcoin network has been running for almost a year now.  The design and coding started in 2007.
In this example he wrote the name of the software with a small letter b and referred to the network/blockchain with a capitalized letter B.

But in this example
--------------------
scott:
Linux/UNIX compile
Posted:Thu 08 of Oct, 2009 (05:49 UTC)

Can we get instructions or modifications to compile and install BitCoin on Linux? A command line version would be great.
He talks about a piece of software and capitalizes the B, in contrast to what he did above.

But then we have this post for example:
Also, even if using RSA for messages, it would still make sense to do all the bitcoin network with ECDSA and use RSA in parallel for only the message part.
In this one, he uses a lowercase letter to refer to the network. Seems he used all forms and didn't pay that much attention to it.

LOL, it mean to other people like the OP. This is why he opened it up to the bitcoiners so that he will going to know if there are some people that are aware on the difference on bitcoin and Bitcoin. In my opinion yes there is and it will depend on how it was being use like if it is a noun or a unit of measurement. These words are the same in spelling but it could be different in meaning when in use. This is how they see bitcoin and Bitcoin if you mind.

I use bitcoin in lowercase most of the time.

In most cases that is the correct use. Additionally,  the bitcoin logo is lower case as well.

I think it is important to use the correct term

I find a bit weird when someone says "I am sending you 5 Satoshis" or "I received 0.4 Bitcoin"

Yes, most of the time we say 'bitcoin' we are talking about the currency, or a specific amount of that currency. A lowercase b is correct.

I find a bit weird when someone says "I am sending you 5 Satoshis" or "I received 0.4 Bitcoin"
I have to admit that I have been on the wrong end of this many times. I used to capitalize the B all the time, but I feel it's important to write it properly. It is not going to create misunderstandings, but still let's be professionals Grin.

Yes it has. Bitcoin is it's title and bitcoin is we are using for the amount of coins.

As an example

I know about Bitcoin or I have a good knowledge of Bitcoin.

I have 2 bitcoins or I can give you two bitcoins.

I haven't given much thought to the plural form - bitcoins. Should it actually be used in that way is another question. Should we say "I earned 2 bitcoin" or "I earned 2 bitcoins". I know from Satoshi's posts, that he used the proper form and called them bitcoins when in plural. That is good enough for me. Smiley

No I don't, but yeah this is correct.

Bitcoin: The title.
bitcoin: The unit.
BTC: ISO code.
₿: The symbol.

That's the least grammatically issues we have on this forum, though...  Tongue
Thanks for clearing it for us who got confused about it.
For me it didn't matter because when we right Bitcoin with capital or just lower case we automatically understand it here in the forum,
So I didn't pay too much attention to it.
I also never bothered about the clear differences between those terms because I never knew there is a clear difference in using them although the message I am conveying with those term without paying attention to them will clearly be understood by my readers however its a good thing the OP made clarity of those terms and I will be cautious of how I am going to use them in my articles, post e.t.c.
I also know a lot of people don't really pay attention it but its a good thing and its high time we began to made clear use of them appropriately in the forum and in other write-ups.

Thank you opening post for making an informative topic, To be honest, I didn't realize that writing between Bitcoin and bitcoin
has a different meaning. Before finding this topic, I thought it was the same regarding writing Bitcoin and bitcoin, it turned out
to have differences. Even though I don't care how it is written, as long as I can understand the meaning of the comments you
want to convey, grammatical issues are not a problem for me.

Everything goes back to each person how someone writes it whether they want to use upper or lowercase letters, it doesn't make any difference what it means, because the words that come out are the word Bitcoin, and the shape is the same as Bitcoin, and the selling value is also 17000 $, nothing which is different even though only distinguishes uppercase letters from lowercase letters, and that does not change the price of Bitcoin in all markets, so what is more important to discuss trivial matters like this, is there no discussion ..

Sincerely i can't really find any difference in both the Bitcoin and bitcoin terms be used by forum members. What i do know is that, these two has their distinct usage outside the forum but within the forum no at all. Even some higher rank individuals do ignored this differences while making their contribution counting on this forum but won't do while outside the forum.

I voted "No" because I did not know if there was a distinction. Thanks for sharing the information now I know the answer. I generally write with a capital B in all situations. I only use the BTC symbol if I want to mention amount. I hardly ever use the lowercase b.
Good Sunday to learn a little more.
Here is a link that supports OP's explanation.
