That One Coin they created wasn't a fake bitcoin but simply a coin used in a pyramid scheme. It's unfortunate that she's still on the run but it's only a matter of time before authorities get her arrested though.

The fake ones are Bitcoin _________ (just fill in the blank)

OneCoin was a really special case in my opinion. It's weird how this one scam is said to have collected a massive 4 billion USDs, without seeming to even hit the radar of Reddit and Bitcointalk(not 100% sure, but I haven't seen a single post about OneCoin from 2016-2017). Just comes to show how much scams are out there that haven't even brought to light.

If someone says that they created bitcoin , they are lying.
Absolutely, except Satoshi N himself can prove himself as the right owner of this technology, but that won't be possible soonest IMO.
Onecoin was one among the biggest scam i have heard about, they actually realized some huge investment from individuals and institutions but was so selfish with investors funds without doing anything. Maybe she's into one of these third world country, but her arrest will come as the government has already picked up this scam issue.

AFAIK, the scam was mostly done offline. It was mostly an affiliate thing - basically as soon as you joined, you'd have to gather other people to invest in it and you'd supposedly earn a commission, and the affiliates would also be tempted (obviously) to get a few people to join as well to their own benefit.

I remember reading somewhere on a Romanian forum a post from someone who's fallen into this scam (long time before Igor went missing) and was getting threats from the OneCoin team for not doing their part of the scam and willing to expose them IIRC, and the minimum sum to invest was around 5k EUR. Most people have done it offline because it's way harder to convince someone online to invest 5k EUR into something they've heard about for the first time ever.

Isn't the One Coin an Alternative Coin/cryptocurrency(Altcoin) rather than "fake Bitcoin"? Your use of "Fake Bitcoin" make things sound like she made a replica of Bitcoin to deceive people into thinking it's Bitcoin. Or did she call it Bitcoin?

There is a huge scam market outside our forum and the mainstream way of social media, i have personally filed complaint against 23 companies that were scamming people in the name of cryptocurrency locally and when i started filing the complaints back in 2014 it was very difficult to get any results as the police nor the authorities had no clue about cryptocurrency and then i forced them to file a case in the name of Ponzi and collecting money without necessary documents and permission from the RBI and SEBI and till now only 8 people were convicted and brought to justice and some of them collected over hundred millions and majority were able to game the system and till now never faced any legal actions.

The recent case that had my involvement was a case from Kerala a few months back and the police nor the authorities did anything when i approached them, i personally hired a private investigator to collect his source of income and activities and then submitted all the evidence to the authorities and hence they took action and he is in jail.

It's easy to find people, like when Pablo Escobar and his gang went into hiding they were quickly found and they were able to stay on the run only because they were bribing politicians. And this was long before they had the Internet, cell phone tracking and all that stuff. They had to listen to your phone conversations to find information not like today when they can record a video using your phone's camera or install tracking apps without your consent.

If she's able to bribe some influential people she'll stay hidden If not they'll make an example of her like they did with Ross.

There is a lot of scam attempt that mentioning bitcoin exclusively to get people attention.
That is very cheap trick, yet people especially the one who have very limited knowledge about technology and bitcoin itself become main target.
This kind scam occurred around the gllobe with various scheme but mostly uses ponzi.
This is very unfortunate but inevitable at the same time so , get yourself upgraded and spread the words relentlessly about this.

There is a lot of scam related to crypto but offline based.
Should we start creating a special thread for this special cases? Let's see it if i can gather some info around.

I think OP posted as a fake bitcoin the "One Coin" because the scammer uses the bitcoin name to relate in her own coin. And that's not new in the crypto-world. There are so many coins created and uses the bitcoin name to deceive many investors who only know the price of this coin will become bitcoin's price. Actually, I'm not surprised if this One Coin collected that huge amount of money. Their target investors are the greedy people who want to earn fast and don't know what the Crypto-currency is.

As far as I understand, OneCoin is an ordinary token and has nothing to do with Bitcoin.  I was attracted by the title of the topic about fake bitcoin, it turned out that the title of the topic simply did not match the content.
As far as this scam is concerned, of course the $ 4 billion raised is too huge.  It is also strange that no one heard about the ICO or IEO for this fraudulent project and did not know about such a token.

The OP should change the title thread as we are talking a scam alt here, in the name of OneCoin.

I found this old thread - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=200177.0 . Don't know if this is what we are taking about here.
But checking the site mentioned in OP's video - http://onecoin.eu/. You will get a red warning of suspected phishing site ahead. So at least, that has been taken cared of, maybe a long time ago already.

Other project named onecoin, but this is not the original scam onecoin. Don't know why the dev used the onecoin here, but later on, they changed to OC Protocol.

I think this woman has a lot of help maybe from authorities also why up until now, she's not in the custody of police.

As EaLiTy said, there's a huge scam market beyond our forum and the mainstream of social media. In fact, it's fascinating how easy it is sometimes to fool people.

A few months ago, an acquaintance approached me for help, finding out that I had some knowledge of digital currencies and investments. For months, he had been paying for some kind of investment scheme that gave him surreal interest on his deposits.
The problem arose when he decided to withdraw some of the money (several million dollars). Of course, his investment platform was a total scam. Man has never heard of Bitcointalk, nor has he any idea what Bitcoin is or how it originated. All he knew about Bitcoin was what was mentioned in the public media.

I bet there are thousands and thousands of such cases around the world every day. People are clearly uninformed, and it is easy to fool them, particularly if they are greedy.

That makes a lot of sense. But damn, they grew that big with keeping their operations mostly offline? And with that, they grew big enough but with enough secrecy that they didn't reach trending on various Bitcoin communities. It's both really horrible and really impressing at the same time.

She has disappeared in the face of the Earth, Dr. Ruja aka "Crypto Queen" has been speculated to have gone rogue via plastic surgery and booked different flights to deter international chase, many were also speculating that she was kidnapped and the money that she stole was in the hands of the kidnappers. This is what a con artist can do if they have a background in education that supports them and they also know what product they are selling.

Well, that's just sad and scary at the same time. Some people would really do anything just to take advantage of others and considering that she is a doctor, she obviously used her knowledge and education wrongly.

With the money she laundered, she surely can afford plastic surgery just to get away with her crime. But I hope that she'll get caught as soon as possible so that there'll be no other victims.

Are there still people who are led to such scams?. Well, seriously, some woman suggested making a new bitcoin and all that: "well, Yes, she can." ))) You should look at the number of alternative cryptocurrencies in the world, see the volumes and prices for it and compare it with bitcoin, and then everything will become clear. The smartest people develop projects over the years and in the end do not always enter a really worthwhile product, but here it's just a woman (this is not sexism, but rather a comparison of potentials).

Well, in General, those who fell for this Scam-deserve it, I think)

In my opinion she was just a figurehead, dummy but not stupid. Nobody knows the real masters of this scam and who stood behind the scene but to run such a scheme you must have big money too.

Only discovered about OneCoin a few months back tbh, and I'm honestly amazed that she was able to make it that for in a ponzi scheme. It's like building a pyramid, but without anything inside, at all, and she even managed to finish it without anyone knowing. As for the police getting her, there's always the chance ofc, mostly with her being careless but I hardly doubt it. The police haven't caught here even after all this time, makes you think that they wouldn't catch her even if given more time.

Well, in General, those who fell for this Scam-deserve it, I think)

Hmmm I hardly doubt it. I mean, if it were at this period, where a lot of scams were already unearthed, and their schemes are easily seen through due to past events, then anyone getting scammed at this point can be said to have reaped what they sow, but this issue was way back then, a lot of scams and schemes were still going through, and a lot of people were still getting fooled. Not to mention that the scam got founded in 2014, and yet only until as late as 2015 were there some people that found it to have some issues. And only till late 2016 was the scheme formally announced as a scam.

Well the scam did happen way back then after all, it's only natural that everything related to the scam was taken care of already. Not to mention that the damages back then were quite huge.

There was a whole lot of BS going on in 2017. Schemes like OneCoin prey on extremely stupid people, like it's hard to believe how stupid some of these people are, but they exist. Her success really shows how irrelevant the actual product is as long as you market it well. It's that way with a lot of things in life.
