It's probably impossible to make perfect voting system simply because people always will be biased. And it doesn't matter who are they - players, managers, journalists or just regular fans. And when it we have people from more than 200 asociations voting, it's popularity and personal preferences contest. And when we have players or managers from countries like Gibraltar, Maldives or Guam (with all respect) who aren't professionals and football is just hobby for them, probably they're not much different from fans like your or me.
I think now it's impossible that defender would win this award, like Fabio Cannavaro did in 2006.
Yeah, it's not possible to have a perfect voting system. If points are calculated purely based on computer generated points, then some subjective picture about a player is missing. On the other hand, if you based points purely on a human judgement, those points tend to be too biased.
I don't think that it's impossible for a defender to win this award. It's just much harder for a defender than for a striker to win it. A defender must really be a real star player to stand out from the attackers and win the prize.
Modric has been exceptional, but probably his midfield position does not favour him like it would with the strikers. These days, it's just mostly about Goals and assists and the media goes Crazy
I miss the old days when goalkeepers and defenders would also be close contenders
Yeah, if Modrić was a striker, I'm sure he would have won much more awards than he did in his career. Goals and assists makes a team win the game, but you can't win the game without good defenders and midfielders.
The same goes for Haaland.
Haaland is still young, he's destined for greatness regardless of his country. He just has to keep breaking records.
I didn't say that he won't win any prize. I just stated that he would won much more awards if he was from France or England.
