I had a lot to learn from Toronto women who won the $ 60 Million lottery jackpot. Because he managed to become a winner not because of
luck alone, but his patience should also be appreciated. Imagine her playing with the same strategy for 20 years, I think very few people have
the patience to do that. So it is very worthy in my opinion that the woman is the winner of the $ 60 Million lottery. Because I'm also not sure
I can be patient like these Toronto women.

I don't agree with this. The probability of winning a single lottery game remains the same whether you have been playing for 20 years or whether it is your first game. Let's say that the probability is 1 in 10 million. Now let's take two examples. First example is of someone who have been taking lottery tickets regularly for 20 years and the second example is of someone who is playing for the first time. In both cases, the probability for that game will be 1 in 10 million. It is not that the first person will have a better probability compared to the second one.

i have tried betting the same number but i didnt last a month doing this . i switch on betting using different number because i think that my old number is not lucky but the woman featured on this thread didnt think of that . she was chill and stick on what she planned . what we can learn from her is patience but what about the capital ? can we also sustain our bets for the next 20 years  ? if we are lucky we cant reach that long but if unlucky we can go longer than that .

Indeed. Whether you are new or old in playing the lottery, the probability or chances of winning the jackpot prize is the same: luck alone is the one-way ticket for you to win. However, people who regularly play the lottery believe that hope and determination in playing the lottery make them win, which is not a reasonable answer because many people out there also play the lottery every day until they die, but they still didn't experience winning.

Its only lucky ones who makes it, else there would be millions other who would have being playing for years but still have never won, but only thing you should be ready with mindset that you may not win and if you happen to win nothing more than you are the luckiest to have made to it.

Me and some friends discussed lottery experiences last night and I remembered this friend of mine who has an uncle who keeps tabs of the winning numbers and then the numbers that he play and he is spending 2 dollars worth of lottery tickets every single day. And somehow he only managed to win 4 numbers out of 6. And he has been doing it since he was 35 years old and he is almost 60. So that makes a big amount of money. But he has no regrets as he believes the money he spent for this came from his salary and his company profits.

quite surprised to hear the amount she won was $60 million.  in my country, this kind of money is enough to buy hundreds of mansions.  in the midst of this "PANDEMIC", their win is a great gift, but what amazed me was that they (her and her husband) always playing the same numbers for 20 years.

That $60million dollar can already give a mansion to each of my family members here in my country, that's huge money tbh. But kudos to that woman who sticks to her lottery numbers for years, She didn't doubt her numbers even though she's not very lucky in the lottery in 20 years of betting. She already gained her losses and she can make more money with those, it's a win win situation.

I wonder by how much the odds change by studying the number drawn frequency?

If you collect data on all the draws during the past 20 years, you will definitely see that some numbers were drawn more frequently than others. But the thing is that you can't draw any conclusions from that information. Some people think that the numbers picked recently won't show up again in the nearest time. Others, on the contrary, think that those numbers are more likely to be drawn. But in fact both parties are wrong. Each draw is absolutely independent from the previous ones, so there's no point  in studying such stats.

Its mind-blowing how religiously people for decades can continue to gamble with anticipation of making it big someday. Like what a quality people have of being patience irrespective of daily losing out normally and frustration do come which is obvious. But salute to those who still doing it without any regrets of anything from decades.

The trick is not that bad but if we are going to sum up also their losses then I guess it will be very big amount also as they are betting for 20 years already. But in the other hand their time has come and their effort makes them a millionaire.

Being a millionaire at the age of 57 is still good, maybe someday I will try this kind of tactics and hoping to win some lottery also in the future and I will be hoping that it will not take 20 years to hit the correct winning combination.

*I hope your dreams come true...
as you said that their tricks are not bad but it takes a great deal of patience in order to imitate the tricks of the woman. 20 years is a very long period of waiting. that means she's put up the same number since 2000. what tremendous patience.
I think that is the most impressive thing of all of this, they were stubborn enough to keep betting the same numbers for 20 years, how many people happen to experience something like this but after a few tries give up and then they later find out that if they have bet on those numbers they could have won, not exactly the same but this happened to a friend once, he selected a few numbers and he always made a bet on them but one day he was too busy to make the bet and he asked his mother to do it, then a few days later he checked out the results and he found out his numbers won a car, he was very happy until he found out his mother never bought the lottery ticket.

The odds in wining the lottery is so low depending on how many numbers its around 6 numbers is 1 around 13million chance so in my opinions is a good method to use the same number but it would not really affect the chances of winning but somehow picking different numbers might all the time might be even harder to win instead of choosing the same number all the time the thing here she is really lucky winning the lottery maybe it is just a lucky numbers. 20 years for example he bet on it daily it was 7,300 bets before getting the jackpot she is really persistent.

What kind  of persistence  they do had when they do still making out bets even up to this year just for the hope on hitting the jackpot someday.
If  we do  try to look at on  the odds of  hitting the jackpot then it  is really impossible  for  you  to hit it up even with  your  entire  lifetime.
Only to those  people who are really extremely lucky would really be an exception.Lottery  jackpot hits isnt something that anyone could follow
on on what people had done before they would able to be chosen as winners. There are not things that would really be influencing your winning odds.

People who spend money on lottery tickets for many years in a row, having no regrets about their losses are doing it the right way. Each month they lose only negligible amounts, which if weren't lost to gambling wouldn't change their life for better. But this hope they get with tickets in their pocket does change their life for better. So, yeah, I agree, salute to them!

I agree that $60 million is a huge amount. If you have just 1% of that amount, you can live like a king here in India for the remainder of your life. But the question is not whether $60 million is a large amount or not. The question is whether if you win $180 million, is it OK for the government to take away $120 million from it in the name of tax, and leave just $60 million with you. No one needs to think that lottery winnings are like charity and the government is providing you the prize for free. The winners are receiving the prize because they spent their money to purchase the tickets and were ready to take the risk despite extremely low odds.

60 million is a huge amount of money, pretty sure everyone in her neighborhood would be seeing her as some sort of celebrity and that stauts can be retained depending on how she spends this huge amount of money. A lot of people in our country tend to dry up their winnings because they are not financially literate, hope this Toronto Winner is so she and her children's children get to enjoy her winnings too.

That is one of the problems. Once everyone know that she has won the lottery jackpot, they will lineup outside her house to beg. It will take some effort to ignore such people. Take the case of Jack Whittaker. In 2002, he won the largest jackpot till date from Powerball ($113.3 million after the taxes were deducted). But it took less than 10 years for him to use up all that money. The last time I heard, he had declared bankruptcy.

I know it's stupid, I know the chance of hitting a certain number is always the same, whether it was last hit 10 seconds or 10 years ago, and yet, sometimes, when I play Roulette I keep betting on the same number waiting for it to pop up eventually. Sometimes it does, and other times it doesn't even after 150+ rolls, but I'd rather stop the game than change the number after 150 consecutive fails in a row. Smiley

I'll do the same thing, the hardest thing to accept is when you change the number and after a few rolls your number come out, so you end up sticking your number and hope that it will eventually come out even if it means a long wait, but twenty years of betting is a long perseverance, I'm glad that stick to their game, the worse is if they change the number or stop betting in their 19th year and the next year it comes out, congratulation to this couple.

Yep, by not changing the initial number we are saving us from the possible psychological damage. Smiley

I'm too glad they won in the end. And replying to @Kelvinid, no, I don't think they've lost more than $60 million in the course of 20 years. They don't look like millionaires, they are regular folks, and I'm happy for them.

I guess they occasionally played what they can afford to lose/risk, and responsibly too. I believe that is how things like lottery should be be played, as contributed money is pooled and given to their "lucky" winners. It's like a community pooling funds together and randomly distributing to some contributors.
It would be better if all contributors benefits sufficiently in one way or another (not necessarily financial), and the winners benefit more... That will likely help make most people appreciate lottery/betting.

If I were her, I do not want to show people in my neighborhood that I am the winner of that 60 million (if I can) because that can lead the criminals to find out more about me, and they will try to do anything to steal the money.
I prefer to buy some gifts for people closest to me, but I will never tell them that I hit the jackpot and win big money.
I prefer to go to my bank and save all of the money in my bank account, and I only get some small amount for my daily life.
That will enough for her if she does that to enjoy her winnings, especially if she has family who loves her.
I hope all of the next winners can do that, so we will not read about the criminals who robbed the winners.

Financial management is an art and not everyone can manage well. When the amount is such a huge better to always have a financial adviser who will guide you based on your goals and also will invest and divest you money so that you keep making some money every moth from it rather than losing money yourself in next few years when you realize you left with not much money.

You sit on a cryptocurrency forum and dream of putting all your money in a bank account? WTF? What about buying Bitcoin for at least part of the funds or some other cryptocurrency?

Typical noob mentality. Right now they are open to investment in cryptocurrency, because they want to become rich. At this point, the thinking is like they don't have anything to lose, so why don't take some additional risk. However, once they become rich, the mentality changes. The preference is to hold onto the wealth, rather than to increase it. And this is applicable to 90% of the people. If they become rich, their investment pattern will change. Most of the money will be diverted to low risk investments, such as bank deposits, bullion and treasury bonds.
